This isn't my full Schwinn IC4 review but in this video we compare the Proform Tour de france CBC from costco with the Schwinn IC4 (which is very similar to the bowflex c6) to see what the similarities and differences are in these two highly popular peloton alternative bikes. The Schwinn IC4 costs more then 2x the price of the costco indoor cycling bike, and it's probably the better bike, but just how much better is the Schwinn IC4 than the costco Proform bike?
In the next few minutes we'll dive in and do a surface level Schwinn IC4 review as well as a proform bike comparison and see which is the better peloton alternative bike. We'll explore the Schwinn IC4 flywheel weight, drive train, pedals, max weight, as well as many other important features on the bike. Additionally we'll take a look at the costco proform tour de france cbc flywheel weight and drive train, and the ifit features as well.

below are some of my raw notes with regards to the homework i did prior to recording this video
    ProForm vs Schwinn IC4 review
    Similarities
-mini screen with resistance, cadence, easy to get on and go
-exposed flywheel in front with magnetic resistance, belt drive
-each come with bonuses - 1 year ifit vs heartrate monitor and 3 lb weights, clip in pedals
don't need to buy a wahoo cadence sensor for either, dont need to add a tablet to either but both have the option
    Differences:
    comfort
handlebars: height, adjustment with for/aft, more adjustment holes,
Q factor - narrow vs wide crank arms, no comment but perhaps in future videos, please check.
    Max weight?
flywheel design, can easily modify max resistance vs probably cant
resistance knob vs not - schwinn ic4 resistance is quick and easy to change, if you don't use auto resistance change on the proform it is a bit clunky to change resistance
Buttons - one feels more quality
    water bottle holders
Overall - ifit vs not ifit or peloton digital app friendly
how long do you plan on using it? Whats your weight? Do you want ifit? Are you planning on getting a heart rate monitor, and do you want to clip in, and do you want weights or do you want a free membership for a while.

Thanks very much for doing this comparison! Very in-depth! It provides a lot of great, useful info! I'm still deciding between the 2, and I might actually just opt for a "trainer" that attaches to my real bike. That leads me to a question regarding the ifit app... I know that usually (w/the proform bike and other compatible bikes) the ifit instructor controls the resistance; my question is ... if I use a different exercise bike (or my own bike), will the app still be displaying the ifit resistance level, so that I can approximate it for myself, by manually shifting the gears on my bike? And ... on that topic ... do you have any experience with trainers that "transform" a bike into an exercise bike? Any feedback about those? btw - From my research, it seems that the IC4 is exactly the same as the Bowflex bike; is that correct, or are there any differences? One final note ... I've watched most (if not all) of your videos about all these bikes, and I've found it very useful when you ride the bikes with an app, so that the viewer can see how the actual exercise experience would go, i.e., how integrated the app is (or isn't) w/the bike... It might be useful if you include some segments of that in this comparison. One final thought ...(for now, at least...) re: the proform bike ... With the proform bike, if a person doesn't use the ifit app (i.e., after the free year ends, the person could use other apps, but would simply need to adjust the resistance manually (and likely estimate it, since most other apps use different resistance numbering scales), but that's the same as on most other exercise bikes. So, it seems to me that the proform app integration is a bonus for those who opt to use it, but does not limit or prevent users from using a different app if s/he prefers. Also - I realize that, if using a different exercise app on a full-size tablet, the tablet would be covering the manual resistance-adjustment buttons, but ... it seems to me that a simple work-around for that would be for the rider to use a smaller screen (i.e., phone or mini-tablet) OR view the app on a TV screen. I'm not trying to be critical; just sharing some ideas I've had while watching your extremely informative videos - and also hoping that if my ideas are off-base, you'll let me know, b/c whatever solution I end up choosing, I'll likely be trying to incorporate some of these thoughts into my setup, and if my thoughts are off-base, that would further assist me in choosing my equipment! Thanks again!

I love your videos! About the aggressive riding position on the proform. Do you think that it will more relaxed for a shorter person (im 5'10"). Or still fairly aggressive?

Problems with the PRO-FORM Model PFEX39420.0. I am from Trinidad. Bought the bike from PriceSmart, Chaguanas after approximately 4 months the following happened.
    1. The magnets in the gear wheel fell off.
    2. The Reed Switch/Wire that connects to the console no longer functioning.
    3. The tension is not staying for example when climbing it slips from 9 back to 1.
    4. The seat pole and handle bars make a creaking noise.
    Q. Where can I buy the Reed Switch/Wire?

I stumbled across the ProForm at Costco and purchased and been using for the last week. I came Across your review after I purchased. This far all have worked well after over a week of usage, escaping to iFit scenic rides in winter (and classes) is nice.
Issues I have is seat pole goes side to side while riding, Bluetooth does not sync all the time and saddle is hard. My concern is being locked into iFit after one year, but I think with additional options/enhancements I could make it work with other apps.
I have been trying to justify is the Schwinn worth the extra money.
Thanks you for the reviews, your reviews I have found to be the most complete - thanks for the time you have spent.

Thanks so much for this - apologies if I missed you discussing this already - does the preform work with peloton app at all?

    • @TailHappyTV
      @TailHappyTV  3 роки тому

No, you can still do peloton classes, but the auto resistance will not work using peloton app

    • @coryz2000
      @coryz2000 3 роки тому

As Matt said, the bike's standout feature (auto-adjusting resistance) won't work with the peloton app, but my understanding is that as long as you keep the manual adjust buttons accessible (by using the peloton app on small screen, such as a phone or mini-tablet, or on a tv screen), you can still "use" the peloton app for an instructor-led class. But you would need to manually adjust the resistance as you ride, and you'd need to estimate how much you need to adjust, since the resistance scales are not the same. But, it seems that that is the same as if you were using peloton with any bike, other than an actual peloton bike. If I'm off-base, Matt (or someone else) can clarify/correct me, but that's my understanding, based on all the research I've done. Hope this helps!

I own the Proform Tour de France bike and I paid $800. for my bike. It has all the features of the Schwinn IC4. The only problem I have is that you have to plug it in to control resistance, it also does not have the SPD to clips.

Have you or family tried these bikes with VR Goggles? I recently started using Meta Oculus Quest 2 with a rower (vs iFit) and want to get an entry bike.

Yes, I'm also looking for a bike to use with my meta quest 2. I'm considering the pro-form so I don't have to blindly try to adjust resistance with the goggles on, since the proform can do it automatically. Anyone know if ifit or any other app works on VR and the bike?

I picked up one of these IC4 bikes, but I had an issue with it. I would select the resistance, start pedaling, and the resistance would drop 2-5 levels. Then I would stop pedaling and the resistance would jump back up. It was so frustrating that I returned it. Have you had any issues like that?

Thanks for all your reviews! I decided not to get any of the bikes you featured. Every single bike you reviewed has several horrible (10% +/-) reviews on Amazon. I got a $350 used Cycleops comp 200e chain drive with felt resistance pads off craigslist. I found reviews on the Cycleops bikes where they were used regularly for a full decade trouble free. So what if the chain rattles a little and it sounds like an electric fan when you pedal? Some Cycleops owners reported putting 40,000 miles on them and they only replaced the brake pads! I'll take a bet that I'll get another 40,000 miles on mine by the time these are rusting in landfills by 2022. Pardon my bluntness, but these bikes are all trash according to my research.

I’m having the same issue, bought a lemon proform carbon computer and wiring harness issue, got that fixed and the magnets are too close to the flywheel it stops and grinds can’t use it over 10 resistance and it shuts off after a while and goes back and grinds more. Going to return this one but can’t find another one without terrible reviews. 😭
