  • Animal skulls provide a lot of useful information to scientists who study mammals. The mandibles and teeth are really helpful in differentiating between species of little mammals, such as rodents or hares. Learn more in this video. And, if you find a skull and mandible on a future hike in the forest or field, you have an extremely useful tool to identify the animal.
The video is part of a multi-episode virtual open-house series.

Hello. I was an avid collector of Skulls in my younger life, of which all went to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton Ontario. However, now instead of collecting the real thing or else replicas I collect information, pictures and video of skulls and skeletons, as well as books. Could you be so kind to tell me the name and author and perhaps the ISBN number of the book you use in the video? John, Ontario, Canada.

The book is called The Natural History of Canadian Mammals: Humans and Domestic Mammals by Donna Naughton. You can find a version of it HERE: utorontopress.com/ca/the-natural-history-of-canadian-mammals-17
