Revival is in my top 5 Stephen King books. That ending left me in an existential crisis lmao

I've also only read those two books by Richard Matheson and Hellhouse is also my favorite. Actually, I haven't wanted to read any other of his books because I'm afraid I'm not going to like them as much lol. I think what I liked the most about that book is how the characters had a limited time to investigate the house (i think a week) and they scheduled like, "today we're gonna analyse the kitchen, tomorrow the pool", etc and every room has a different kind of haunting

If you like short stories and Lovecraft I highly recommend "The Black Sutra" by Walter C. DeBill Jr. He expands Lovecraft's and Zealia Bishop's stories in a western genre.

I loved Rose Red. Yes, the special effects at the end leave a bit to be desired, but the rest of it is creepy fun, and the cast is fabulous. What I wanted, and still do, is the Stephen King Rose Red novel, but alas it's not to be. (there is a prequel, , not written by Stephen King, it's just ok). Thank you for mentioning Revival, it's highly underrated and one of my favorite King books, top tier for sure, and I've read everything the man has ever written. If you liked Necroscope.. or didn't like it.. they get better as they go. An almost completely forgotten, yet really excellent horror series. Also the old covers are just wonderful. I agree with you on Haunting of Hill House.. I was so disappointed when I read it, way overhyped. If you want something truly different try on Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig. You will never look at an apple the same way again.

I have to say, when it comes to Richard Matheson, a stir of echoes is far superior

Revival intrigues me. I have heard that he nails the ending before. He usually fumbles endings, IMHO.

@anotherbibliophilereads I tend to be a lot more forgiving when it comes to Kings endings, but I do think revival is one of his better ones.

The ending is an ENDING for sure. You don't really see it coming, so it's like a punch to the gut and it leaves you just.....gutted.

Haunting of Hill House is totally overblown and one of the most boring books I've ever read.
