My favorite parts of summer, in no particular order, are: air conditioning, good summer reads, summer fruit (especially cherries, peaches, watermelon).
Summer of Night is phenomenal for all the "good ol days" style nostalgia for summer break, riding bikes with friends, and coming of age dilemmas. Just read Diavola and it was pretty good - a quick read. Definitely has all the "summer vacation with family trip gone badly wrong" vibes.
I love seeing love for Ocean at the End of the Lane! It so perfectly encapsulates being a child and the things that they notice. It's spooky and thoughtful and so different. I'd recommend the audiobook for a reread - Neil Gaiman narrates it, and it's fantastic!
Lexi that intro ❤❤ love. This list is so good , My Lovely Wife was so good , Gotta get Malice House. My fave part of summer is reading at the beach or on my patio with some iced coffee 🪓
I definitely recommend Hidden Pictures. A woman becomes a nanny to a young boy whose drawings become more and more sinister. Not like super scary. More suspenseful and a good mystery. The book is illustrated too so you see the boys drawings and how they evolve.
I think this is my favorite video of yours ever ! I’ve literally been dying for some summerween books and this couldn’t have come at a better time. Also the intro? The Recs? The categories!? Incredible. I also love Grady Hendrix and my best friends exorcism was the first book I’ve read by him and I love it !
THAT INTRO!!! it was so well done lexi!!! watching this after my summerween tbr was made but here’s what i read/plan to read - you’re not supposed to die tonight - hollow (graphic novel) - pumpkin spice cafe - we sold our souls - it came from the closet thanks for inspiring me to try a summerween reading challenge this year!
I loved, loved, LOVED Diavola! Perfect combination of "vacation from Hell" and "dumpster fire family", and a super engrossing read. I literally binged it in a day and was so upset with myself for not taking it slower. It was wild. The family was the perfect mix of "God, I hope these people get axe'd" and "Holy shit, you all better make it out of there alive!". Like, even our POV character had moments of supreme insufferable-ness. As someone with one of those "can't live with them, can't live without them" families, the drama was spot on.
🪓 oh my gee, I loved that intro!! I read The Fury a couple of weeks ago (very surprising since I don't do thrillers) but it got me out of a reading slump and I absolutely loved it!! Now I am trying to read thrillers a lot more. I've always been a fan of horror and horror books so that side i'm OK on. I will always recommend The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty. I also recommend The White Road by Sarah Lotz. It's a thriller I read last year and I absolutely loved it too! xoxo
My favorite part of the summer is visiting my favorite lake beaches with people i care about. Grateful it did happen in late June this year. I'm more of an audiobook while I work outside person. Just wanted to mention that I'm catching up on Steven King. Currently listening to "Christine". So much better than i expected which has been the case and also set in late summer. I'm like you in that i don't want to submerge myself full time in the negativity. I've been enjoying his Bill Hodges/Mercedes series. Im an older woman so its a good recommendation for my generation. Have a great summer! 🌞
How can I save money when I keep seeing books I want to buy!! 😭😂 I love the Scooby Doo looking one! My favourite part of summer is the sun, not heat but just... sunny days! 🌞 Although we've had an unseasonably cold summer where I am in the UK! 😢
🪓 I ADORE summer horror and thrillers!! My favourite books in those categories are Salem's Lot and I Killed Zoe Spanos; for movies and TV - Midsommar and Sharp Objects; for anime - Higurashi, Shiki and Another. I'm really excited to read It, Pet Cemetery, Summer of Night, Goth, Summer Fireworks and My Corpse, The Main Character, some Riley Sager and the manga The Summer Hikaru Died! I also want to watch Blood+ and Summertime Render as well as rewatch some of my faves!! My favourite part of summer have to be the long beach days, staying until the shadows overtake the beach, and you're so tired but so content. Second to that are walks in the hot sun, listening to summer songs or an audiobook, almost no one on the streets beside you.
Ok 1) That intro!!!!! Bravo! 👏🏻 2) The Lake House and Meddling Kids are going on my TBR 3) I loved Lute! Another rec for Midsommar vibes is Harvest Home by Thomas Tyron 4) The Main Character and My Lovely Wife are going on my TBR 5) I’m pretty sure you’ve worn that shirt in multiple Summerween videos. Intentional or happy coincidence?
Thanks for the recs... I found a couple of books on your video that I'm ordering today :) Wanted to ask if you have read Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes." If you want a spooky throwback (with some seriously creepy moments) and set in summer, with a couple of "meddling kids," this one is great :)
You're Not Supposed to Die Tonight is one of my faves! So glad you included it. Also, I am doing a very similar theme to those meddling kids for my summerween and we must have been on the same reddit thread because I have that book on my list too.😂
My Best Friend’s Exorcism is one of my favorite books of all time!!! It’s like a more grown up, girl friendship version of The Body/Stand By Me :’) thank you for making this video! Can’t wait to read some of these!
🪓 I enjoyed this video thanks! I will add those books in my list . I am a big fan of Halloween love and enjoy scary, thriller, slashing, hunting movies and books! 💜💚
Highly recommend Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay! It's a new release about a "cursed" film that was never released but has reached cult status on the internet and is being remade by Hollywood. The story follows the sole survivoring cast member as he tells the story of what happened while the film was being made and what has happened since. Each chapter has a portion of the film's script, and the audiobook treats these sections as a table read by the actors, complete with flubbed lines and the sound of pages turning. It's less a "scary" story and more a slow-burn horrifying one.
I love Malice House so much!! For the summer camp category, you might enjoy I'll Never Tell by Catherine McKenzie. It's a mystery/thriller I would recommend to fans of The Last Time I lied
My creepy summer read recommendation is Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert. And my favorite part of summer is the food. All fresh fruits and grilled everything! 🪓
I can't wait for Summer ween!! This is my first time participating in it. I got a shirt for it! I will be reading while sipping on pumpkin spice coffee while instrumental Halloween music plays in background. I took my time to think about what books I wanted to read and finally decided on..1. psycho 2. Hollowed-sleepy Hollow with a twist. 3. Shade-Frankenstien with a twist. 4. Salt and Broom - Jane Eyre with twist. 5. Murder in the Villa. I'm super excited!! My favorite part of Summer is the abundance of nature 🍄🟫
I'm sooooo excited for Summerween! I've participated before and hope that I can with a trip happening right in the middle. I have a copy of The Lake House that I haven't read yet but am absolutely obsessed with the cover!
Love ur videos. Not sure if I ever wrote, but been watching u for a couple of years or more. Love ur content, love ur personality, thanks for sharing ur thoughts and reads with us!
Im about to read Middle of the Night by Riley Sager. I really hope its good! I just finished Legends and Lattes and loved it! My favorite part of summer ☀️ is probably having delicious cold drinks 😂 Im really more of a Fall girly.. Im ready for sweater season haha
Great recommendations! These books are perfect for the summer. One little criticism, the jump-cuts get a little distracting. Just trying to help a girl out. But thank you for the awesome recommendations. I definitely want to read the Ocean at the End of the Lane. ❤️
My “Summerween” book read was The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix and I loved it! I’ve read all his book except his newest one now. My birthday was the 11th so it was a fun way to celebrate 🖤✨
Old school favorite...Sweet Valley Twins: The Curse of the Ruby Necklace. I read it the summer of 6th grade and have been a summerween girl ever since!
I don't read thrillers/horror books that much, but I do like Mexican Gothic, and I am planning on reading The Hacienda soon. My favorite part of summer is my birthday and just reading all the good books 🪓☺
I really like reading Grady Hendrix in the summer. Southern Vampire Bookclub (not the full title) is probably the most summery. I just finished "We Sold Our Souls," which festures an outdoor music festival, which is appropriate.
We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer scared me so bad! So filled with dread! It was originally a No Sleep story on Reddit that got picked up by a publisher and is going to be a Netflix movie. It’s a novella so a very quick read and very little violence. The ✨vibes✨ are perfection. 😊
I am beyond happy that you mentioned The Ocean at the End of the Lane 🥹 it is my absolute favourite! It fits the theme so so much and was the first one I thought about for the first category! ❤
🪓🪓🪓 I always Loved the middle grade book/mystery titled the Ghost Next Door by Wylly Folk St. John. It is a fun creepy ghost story mixed with those Meddling kids vibes.
It is one of my favorite books of all time! It is just so good! Scary yes, but at the heart it is a story about the power of friendship. I just love it, hopefully if you read it (no pun intended) you will too!
Lex!!! You HAVE to read Liar’s Beach by Katie Cotugno! I know you love rich people drama and murder mysteries. You NEED to pick this up! I got it for $5 at the Barnes and Noble café. I was having a rough day earlier last week and needed a pick me up so I went to B&N and they had this book for $5 with a café purchase! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! The second book is called Hemlock House and drops August 13th!!
Fav scary books: The Hollow Places and The Twisted Ones by T.Kingfisher. I also love The Pallbearers Club by Paul Tremblay, although that is apparently not a popular opinion. Thanks for the fun list!
I enjoyed We Were Liars and You're Not Suppose To Die Tonight last Summerween. I will pick up Meddling Kids and Home is Where The Bodies Are this weekend.
🪓 Come Closer by Sara Gran is probably my favorite horror I’ve read. Followed closely by Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Diavola is on my TBR this summer-the cover is stunnin’! But I’m reading When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole for Summerween. Trying to hit all five prompts with one book 😅
I love reading IT and Pet Semetery. I’ve been trying to watch Stranger Things(I’m late to watching it) but haven’t found the time. I plan on reading Nemesis and Genesis(can’t remember the author) either this month or in October for actual Halloween
You have to absolutely read Into The Drowning Deep if you haven’t!!!! It is about murder mermaids and soooooo soooo good. It is the one book I would like to forget and read over and over again every summer!!!!! ❤🎉
Thanks for these recommendations. I can recommend this queer horror novel: "Bury Your Gays" by Chuck Tingle. And also this one, a short story collection: "Managing and other Lies" by Willow Heath, which has been released recently.
Me when the only horror movie I've seen, when not covering my eyes and ears, is Midsummer as a scaredy cat hahahaha. I really enjoyed The Main Character and it deserves more love!!!
I have been wanting to read Main Character since it can out.😊I am next in line on Libby for Diavola. Read Malice House 🤯 Home is where the bodies are ❤🪓. Favorite part of summer is the fresh air.
That intro gave me LIFE! 🪓
Recently read The Only Survivors by Megan Miranda which kinda gave We Were Liars vibes but better writing imo.
The intro was the absolute mix of 80s Summer horror thriller ... stuff... and I am living for it
Omg. Yes.
My favorite part of summertime---when it's over 😂
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Exactly
😩 omg yes
So real!
Only two more months y'all we can do this!
Lexiiiiiii 🥹💖😍 this is such an iconic video!!! Thank you so much for this recommendation list, you’re the best!! Can’t wait for Summerween 👻
My favorite parts of summer, in no particular order, are: air conditioning, good summer reads, summer fruit (especially cherries, peaches, watermelon).
You know it’s summerween when you wear that shirt! 😀
Definitely Max vibes. 🤙🏻
My favorite part of summer is that I'm gonna be able sit by my pool and read a ton of books 😍🪓
That intro is literally everything. Gonna go watch Stand By Me tonight
I definitely recommend Hidden Pictures. A woman becomes a nanny to a young boy whose drawings become more and more sinister. Not like super scary. More suspenseful and a good mystery. The book is illustrated too so you see the boys drawings and how they evolve.
Loved this one too. Definitely have to read the physical book IMO.
So glad you mentioned this book! I love suspenseful/mystery books. I ordered a copy just now. I can’t wait for it to arrive.
@@thecampinglibrarian yes audio wouldn’t work.

What better way to end the day than watching a video of you, Lexi🤩 Thank you so much for uploading a new video🥰
I just read The Body and I cried at the end. Such a beautiful book! The Ocean at the End of the Lane is similarly touching and nostalgic.
I love the intro! I just read My Lovely Wife and it was really good!
Thank you for all the book recommendations and for the intro. This intro made my evening! I miss seeing all that goodness - summer camp horror vibes.
I could not be more excited for summerween & to see this list! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Summerween! Yes, bring it! We need a few chills to survive this heat. 💜 As far as I am concerned, fall is the reward for surviving summer.
It just started raining where I am as I started to watch this video...summerween vibes!! 😄

Thanks Lexi! My library had every single one on audiobook! I do not normally read anything scary, so I could be in for some sleepless nights😅
Love summerween & seeing all the summerween TBRs❤

Only committing to spooky middle grades because I can’t handle more 😂
It is one of my favorite books of all time! It is just so good! Scary yes, but at the heart it is a story about the power of friendship. I just love it, hopefully if you read it (no pun intended) you will too!
Not a horror thriller person AT ALL but here for the sunshine Lexy vibes ❤

You give all the good vibes every single video! 🪓
My favorite part of summer time is all the cute iced drinks! And fireworks in July 😁
I just finished Dead Silence by SA Barnes. Really good sci-fi ghost space ship, what is going on, what’s real feel from a book. Was very good.
Malice House and Home is Where the Bodies Are were both so good.
I loved reading Lute so much. I also recommend Mary ny nat Cassidy if you haven't read it already.
My Best Friend's Exorcism is such a fun book!
Thriller recommendation: The Night Villa by Carol Goodman. It's very dark academia vibes but set on an island in Italy. Full of myth and lore
I'm in one of the worst reading slumps again so I'm 100% willing to get back into it 👍👍
Hopefully these help! 😊
An excellent thriller/mystery to read in the summer is “every time I go on vacation someone dies”
It is very funny, but THE TENSION
is real
✨✨✨ you knew I needed something to listen to to get through laundry and summerween prep 🥰😂❤️
Hahaha I’m happy to be there for you!! 😂❤
I am not surprised this girl has escalated her love of Halloween to the extent it is taking over the rest of her year.
I love reading IT and Pet Semetery. I’ve been trying to watch Stranger Things(I’m late to watching it) but haven’t found the time. I plan on reading Nemesis and Genesis(can’t remember the author) either this month or in October for actual Halloween
I am reading My best friend's Exorcism! I've read Joyland and I enjoyed it!
wow im so glad i found ur channel!! this is so fun aaa

I love stand by me and have been meaning to read "the body"
Great book suggestions! I just finishedThe Only One Left by Riley Sager. It was a really good, creepy, atmospheric story.
These are some really exciting categories for summerween. I am planning to read You like it Darker by Stephen King, hope it's good.
It's good.
Summer of Night is one of my favourite books!! 🖤
