I love the knife and the steel. Also the sheath. Very well designed, easy to carry and durable. The edge on mine came very sharp, but keep in mind it's a working edge. You can sharpen it further if you want to do feathering, etc. Finally, an astoundingly great price.
Like most here I have an assorted big knives collection both pricey and lower priced. I own the SP10 and the SP5 both are very good knives, both came literally hair shaving sharp out of the box. If you want a good quality beast of a knife at a lower cost the SP series by Ontario are outstanding and hard to beat. Nice review Tac, I like the review ya did on the SP5 also.
I'm a freak for large fixed blades and just ordered one of these. I've carried similar knives in the woods for years and love them. I always hear "that's too big", "that's overkill", "too much extra weight", blah blah... I just don't care. Fixed blades are very versatile in the outdoors and if you're going to carry one it's hard to beat a big ass bowie. Skin, chop, or stab sasquatch to death..they're just plain awesome
Nice blade, It chops and batons well. The sheath is made of the same materials and has the D ring and dangler like my KA-Bar 1249 Kukri. The handle is the same material and very similar shape as well. I just did a video showing "My 3 favorite knives" which included the KA-Bar Kukri. Thanks for sharing.
Only a 7? What the heck are you looking for haha?! That thing is a monster...just like that sugar maple! That's by far the hardest wood I ever had to cut up. Thanks for the review.
I love mine! It has good materials, I love the look of the thing, and it does work! I scored mine when Amazon dropped the price to $41! Unbelievable. It is still a tremendous value at around the $60 it usually goes for, and really would be totally fair even at $100. I was chopping some wood and didn't see it but I chopped right through a nail. The edge had the tiniest little roll which worked out in no time and she was good to go. I don't love the handle. The sheath is functional.
Ontario gives you the very best bang for your buck out of any of the knife companies, i have several and their steel and especially heat treat is some of the best in the business, i really need to add the marine raider to my collection, but its definitely one that is worth getting a good kydex sheath for
The SP10 is an actual military issue knife. The sheath has two snaps so that it is jump rated. Had mine for some 3 years now, and the sheath grows on you. It's like the handle, it just simply works.
Ontario had contracts with our military since 1942 but I don't recall this particular knife being issued. However, the V44 Collins & Co. Legitimus (similar style and size bowie) was issued during WWII. The only blades I was ever issued was an Ontario machete and Ka-bar.
Another awesome knife review video! How would you say that Marine Raider stacks up against a BK9 as a chopper? How about as an all around 'survival knife'?
I'm sorry about your baton I know how close you guys were 😢 , great review that would be a great knife to have if bugging out and not having a saw and axe
Took Dave Canterbury's Basic Wilderness Survival Course back in June 2012 with the OKC Spec Plus Marine (SP1-94). Worked just fine, but Dave agreed that the Spine does need a little file work to really throw sparks from a Ferro Rod or do Flint and Steel. But as weird as the handle looks, I, like you found it to be very comfortable. Titties and Beer.
ontario has shifted steels to 1075 and 420 from 1095 and 5160 without letting people know, they have been doing it for 2 years, and still not updated info on their website.
Was that really miss tac's? If so She has good taste! (Obviously! XD) Also stop reviewing the awesome budget blades you're gunna drive up the price! D:
MS. Tact is a smart lady. She uses my favorite large blade. Combine this knife with Mora Buscraft black and you are se for any bushcraft task. This is the best chopper/ battoning knife I have. I have other more expensive "Better quality" blades, but I always end up going to this one. As far as the guard, I think Ms. Tact has stronger hands than you and it wont' bother her, Hahahaaa.I just use gloves so I don't feel it at all. Plus I ain't stabbing wood, if I stab something it will have meat and give a lot more, LOL...........
I fuckin love mine and they're made 15mins from my house in franklinville NY so I can get em for close to nothing but mannn they whack thru some stuff with ease!
Say Heah Tact'ie My People, How you frajole, Yeah, how you bean. One of my Fav's Chopper's is made by O. K. C. My Gen2 SP-53, I also have the SP-51, SP-49, and the SP-47. All are made out of the 5160 Carbon Steel, Yeah some tough azz knives. Dilly Dilly.,,.p
Hey tac , I've been a discribe for a year or so , you've never responded to one of my comments . But I still am going to share a idea for you . You really know different kinds of trees , woods , wood be a easy , helpful , video for you to help outhers . Showing the The different trees you seem to know them all practically . Even if it took 2 vids. Playboy . But yepp a video on trees . There's not really anything out there really helpful I noticed . The difference in bark , leaves color of wood . Hardness ,softness . . Ok .just throwing it out there . Peace
my buddy bought one online 2 weeks ago from usa to belgium and he got a complete different sheath the sheath doesn't have the cutout like yours, its just like rectangle and only fabric no leather and i laught my ass off with the shoestrings ;-)
"It's sharper in some places than others." Uh, sharpen the damn thing. Problem solved. Folks, there's no such thing as an eternally sharp knife. Sooner or later, they all need the whet stone.
I payed $65 for mine awhile back. It's a great blade, i just don't like the leather & cordura combination sheath. IDK why? I just don't like it. I made a custom distressed brown leather one & stripped the coating on the blade & put a patina.
Love my SP 10,,picked mine up at a pawnshop for $20 bucks brand new,, yep I got lucky . The girl behind the counter didn’t know shit .
Freddie Dorris that's fucking awesome. Score bro!
damn, lucky.
She not suppose to.
Why was this not in a Chop Off series?? Seriously Tac bring back the Chop Offs! They were the highlight of my UA-cam binges.
I usually carry one of these during the NATIONAL ANTHEM
Just picked one of these up. Very impressed with the quality and sharpness for the low cost.
Give that 3 year old baton a proper burial
We need a memorial service, that little hunk of wood will be missed by many
Schteve Ven send it down a stream in a wooden boat on fire.
Blade test in the classic Tac style. Love it! Keep up the good work!
Been missing your knife reviews. Thanks for the fix brother. 🖒
I love the knife and the steel. Also the sheath. Very well designed, easy to carry and durable. The edge on mine came very sharp, but keep in mind it's a working edge. You can sharpen it further if you want to do feathering, etc. Finally, an astoundingly great price.
Did you change your hat? Love this kind of videos! You're the man Tac!
By the way, R.I.P. good old baton...
Like most here I have an assorted big knives collection both pricey and lower priced. I own the SP10 and the SP5 both are very good knives, both came literally hair shaving sharp out of the box. I love my Ontario M3 Trench knife! Neatsfoot oil will swell the leather washer grip and make it tight.
Afternoon with Tac! Awwwwwyeah!

Awesome company great knife and great review brother
TAC and his BLADES !!!!!!!!
OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!!!!
I love Ontario knives! I own SP51, RTAK 2, Falcon, Rat 7 and Bushcraft Field Knife
I'm a freak for large fixed blades and just ordered one of these. I've carried similar knives in the woods for years and love them. I love my marine raider Bowie. Damn thing is a beast. I'm very happy my other half bought it for me.
Gotta love these Ontario SP knives. USA made, low priced, but rugged, tough, and quality.
Holy Moly, nice big knife, like it! :)
Always did like this style of knife
One of the top Apocalypse knives IMO. Great review brother!
i have 5 or 6 of the sp line from ontario , for the price they work very well
Only a 7? What the heck are you looking for haha?! That thing is a monster...just like that sugar maple! That's by far the hardest wood I ever had to cut up. Thanks for the review.
I have one of these and i love it
Good review ! You are right Big Bang for your money, a guy could really work on the edge sharpening it and you will have a good knife. Very nice !
Awww yeah! A Tac knife review!
I love mine! It has good materials, I love the look of the thing, and it does work! I scored mine when Amazon dropped the price to $41! Unbelievable. Would love to see some 12 gauge stuff, maybe some magnum and exotic loads. Thanks as always Tac.
R.I.P Black Locust. You will be missed!!!
Ontario gives you the very best bang for your buck out of any of the knife companies, i have several and their steel and especially heat treat is some of the best in the business, i really need to add the marine raider to my collection, but its definitely one that is worth getting a good kydex sheath for
Reminds me of my NightRanger. Yup! Still using and loving it. This looks like a great replacement/upgrade. Any chance of a side by side comparison?
I've been using 1 of those Raider Bowie knives for a few years..no problems ...peace
Love it.
Cheers Bro :)
I was looking for a nice bowie and I think this could be the one.
Pagans be gone ... Check out OKC's Rtak2 too.
Looks like a nice knife, but the sp10 has the classic bowie look that I'm looking for.
The SP10 is an actual military issue knife. The sheath has two snaps so that it is jump rated. Had mine for some 3 years now, and the sheath grows on you. It's like the handle, it just simply works.

Mr. Kitty
Needs 3 to be jump ready
Another awesome knife review video! How would you say that Marine Raider stacks up against a BK9 as a chopper? How about as an all around 'survival knife'?

I have an sp53 and while I am for the most part quite impressed with it, after some light chopping and batoning the tang is loose inside the handle.
Hey tac, can you test the Cold Steel Marauder ? I'm about to buy it for my first fixed knife after plenty of research
Given all the so called 'super steels', people seem to have forgotten how good 1095 is for the price.
Sup Tac! Could you make a video on the Ontario SP6? :)
ontario has shifted steels to 1075 and 420 from 1095 and 5160 without letting people know, they have been doing it for 2 years, and still not updated info on their website.
TAC MAN !
Get back at it playboy.. Time for some cool videos again..
NOOOOO! the black locust finally broke. rest in peace lol. it's been like a piece of the channel forever lol
Was that really miss tac's? If so She has good taste! (Obviously! XD) Also stop reviewing the awesome budget blades you're gunna drive up the price! D:
RIP Baton!!!
You could try shorting or grinding the top guard down. So it doesn't dig in you hand and will make it better for choking up!
Nice blade
What Is Your Favorite Knife That's 80 Dollars or below and that also has a good sheath??
I paid $50 bucks for a pocket knife this seems well worth it.
i have a 12 dollar and 20 dollar knife from china with the same exact handle. I also have the SP48. all the same handle. a mold?
Tac... is that blade hollow grind or saber grind? Just hard to tell on the video.
Alan Williams it's a sabre grind. The SP line has either a sabre or flat grind.
Thanks. I like a sabre grind.
Having a real hard time deciding between this and the SCHF45.
Give it a new and higher grind, and strip the blade. Then it becomes a whole new knife,i have done it;-)) Also got the kukri and the SP53.
My sp10 has been going strong for 16 years
That knife can even go a lifetime.
Beauty knife..and nearly indestructible..
Has anyone around these parts worked with the Svord Von Tempsky?
MS. Tact is a smart lady. She uses my favorite large blade. Combine this knife with Mora Buscraft black and you are se for any bushcraft task. This is the best chopper/ battoning knife I have. My OKC Rtak2 is great.
Would at least think this would get a 8/10
I think based on that especially price it’s an easy 9. 10 if a little sharper.
I fuckin love mine and they're made 15mins from my house in franklinville NY so I can get em for close to nothing but mannn they whack thru some stuff with ease!
60-65 donger bills in freedom country. 91euro where i live .... i fucking love living here.... 91euro = 107$

I'm still shocked how these blades stay in the handle with only a brass expanded hollow tube hole it in as the lanyard hole. Bad fucking ass blades!
AWWwwww YeHhhhh.....sugar maple...thats hardcore.

Sounds cool
"Come and git mo murda mo murda, come and git mo murda.........until the next ti........
You said it was used, so that could be part of the sharpness issue.
playboy wazaaaa
Everynow and then you can find this blade for $40 on Amazon, sometimes $50
my buddy bought one online 2 weeks ago from usa to belgium and he got a complete different sheath
the sheath doesn't have the cutout like yours, its just like rectangle and only fabric no leather
and i laught my ass off with the shoestrings ;-)
Yo Tack! How do you sharpen your knives?
New BFW (Big F'ing Wood) baton! Wrap that puppy with some duck tape good to go
Oh quit your breaking my heart. We all know the full tang would make that a rocking Bowie
It is full tang
Check out a kizlyar vendetta if you want a badass looking blade of D2 made in Russia freakin sweet knife bro! Go have a look
"It's sharper in some places than others."
Uh, sharpen the damn thing. Problem solved.
Folks, there's no such thing as an eternally sharp knife. Sooner or later, they all need the whet stone.
I want one but my wife is gonna get pissed if I buy another knife.....
Ya ill second that. Lets both dooooo it!!! Yyyyyaaaarrrrjhhaaahhhhh!!!!!!!😒😈
RIP Baton
Finally lol
sheath was worth 3 points.... wow!
Kill a dinosaur with that one
Looks like a Bowie with Machete tendencies
Rip batton
Can you tell what kind of tang it has? Rat tail / stick, or partial, or ???
first!
Cool knife, stink sheath
THE GRIND ON THE SWEDGE IS WAY OUT. THE SABRE GRIND SHOULD MEET THE SWEDGE AT THE POINT NOT BELOW IT.
What would be the best way to sharpen
NO! NOT THE BATON!
I payed $65 for mine awhile back. It's a great blade, i just don't like the leather & cordura combination sheath. IDK why? I just don't like it. I made a custom distressed brown leather one & stripped the coating on the blade & put a patina.
