the subtitle saying dont judge im still learning, i feel ya, youll get the hang of it, we all start somewhere and we all in the end drive it well at some point
I know driving a manual can be intimidating, but please don't be afraid to shift into 3rd. Second gear is meant for slowly driving around in parking lots and stuff like that. Plus in 2nd the engine brake is still very strong so if you let off the gas without pressing in the clutch first, you'll feel a very unpleasant and sudden jerk. Also don't lift the clutch so suddenly, give it some gas, raise the clutch to the biting point and hold it there until the car is moving, then you may release it all the way. Remember, when starting from a stand still, the clutch is the only thing that controls how fast you're going. You can go pedal to the metal on the gas but as long as you're not letting the clutch bite all the way you're ain't going anywhere, so don't be afraid to give it a bit too much gas, as long as you're in control of the clutch nothing will happen.
here is a tip: Because it is a 4 stroke engine car, leave it in first when you stop and put the clutch in, and spend some time learning clutch control. every car is slightly different, so even if you had experience with another car, it would still take time to get used too. Nice to see an american bothering to learn stickshift though. Here in the uk, most people drive stick, but I hear most americans have given up on it, which is dumb. Its fun.
He needs to get the point where the clutch grabs, so he will be able to control it faster. I´ve learnd how to drive in a car like this, but in a better state.
Reminds me of my first half hour driving on my Ls, it's good you're learning in a shit car, cause you're gonna have a great range for experience and should be able to drive anything safely once you've learned. Good luck boyo. Have fun, follow the speed limit, and be safe.

This brought me back to my driving lessons, where I live 90%+ of the cars are manual, and so was the one I was learning with, I couldn't keep the car from dying if my life depended on it! But it gets way better overtime, I love manual cars
I remember learning to drive manual and kept stalling at a 4 way with a school bus behind me honking. That was the most anxious ive ever been in my life
I understand these clutches, I remember driving a 1997 shitbox with 58bhp some months ago, you can't feel the clutch I mean it was so worned out, almost 0 torque.
Way more calm and youll handle it. From my point of view you keep yanking the clutch up way to fast. Theres no rush, take your time. The car also seems to be on its last few legs. learning manual on a worn clutch sure makes it a lot more difficult.
@@Lucasfazzini tbh can't even hate then... My first hours of driving were almost exactly like your video, except where i live manual is the norm. I had to learn with a broken starter motor, bad clutch master cylinder and broken power steering, i do not wish this pain to anyone lol... But i guess these things make you learn better on the long run...
This video is so dang relatable. Currently own a Yugo which has a 4 speed manual and no power steering. I always want to just give it a smooth start but end up just spinning the tires and doing launch control without wanting to, scary stuff.
I literally just sold my project car, a 94 Mazda Mx6. It was my first car, and also my first manual car. I had to learn how to drive it after I rebuilt the transmission. And it ran pretty good for about a month. No power steering, no ac, exhaust leak. And I constantly stalled for about 4 days straight. I miss the old oil stain, but it made my life hell.
Huge props for uploading your driving while still learning. I recently got my first manual as well, though I had prior experience on motorcycles so the process overall made sense to me. Keep up the practice, though maybe keep it in parking lots until you get a good feel for getting going from a stop. Good luck!
I’ve been driving stick for about 2 months now and yesterday I stalled at a light for the first time in a few weeks, I think it was because my dad was in the car with me and he’s very much a keen driver.. I was getting honked at and my dad thinking I was going to freak out like I did before was telling me it’s ok just restart the engine and I just restarted it without saying a word and got it going smoothly 😅 No one’s “in a rush” to get anywhere and no one matters more than anyone else on the road especially! Don’t care what people think if you stall just start your car and move on like a true boss
first time i drove a manual car, i had to drive just a couple hundred feet to park it somewhere. pretty flat dirt road with just a slight degree of incline. should be easy, right? wrong! so fucking wrong! i stalled about five times and smoked the fuck out of the clutch. like, i could actually *see* clutch smoke. (FWD vehicle, so the transmission was under the hood) now i'm floating gears on an asynchronous twin stick tractor and having a blast. good job, OP. you're brave for posting this!
This was anxiety-inducing AF but that's the beauty of learning new things. Almost everyone is scared to do something they've never done before and it's a shame. When I first started driving manual, I didn't realize why my engine was lugging even though my shifts were on point. Turns out I was always skipping 3rd and 4th, lol.
Brings back memories of my old Renault, It one day decided to loose 1st and 2nd gear synchro's in a busy town centre, On a Saturday. And then left me in the rain twice when the electrics failed. Total POS, And i loved it 😂 Dw you'll be slamming gears in no time, Good job man!
As a daily no power steering and shitbox driver I have a suggestion to you: Try to slightly move the car before steering and you will notice that the steering will be more soft and easy to move! It can be difficult the first times because you just started with manual but with some patience you can improve your skills without any doubt!
My Dad first taught me how to drive manual when I was 9, watching this reminds me of how I constantly stalled the car and he would get angry at me but eventually I got the hang of it.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We’ve all been trough this that’s why this is so funny, cuz it’s relatable. When I got my driver’s license, my parents gave me a gasoline car, well… in your driving lessons at least in Portugal you learn to drive in a diesel car, which has some differences, mainly on moving off in first gear. I can’t count how many times I got nervous as shit starting to heavily breathe and cursing while letting my car stall continuously, not only that but I got laughers and cars honking at me. But eventually I got it, and honestly, him getting on the car at a decently movimented road with no experience nor power steering is so fucking brave! I also drove a non power steering car (this time a diesel one) a few days before my gasoline car, and it’s fucking hard, but great to learn! Nice video and keep going!!
This makes me feel a lot better, I just paid $1500 for a saturn ion lol. Was generally terrified to take a left at the top of my street which has a pretty steep hill. Almost rolled back into my neighbor. Everyone told me to use the e brake but that somehow felt like more shit to do lol. Def getting the feel of my clutch tho now, driving a manual is fucking awesome. Hope your somewhat enjoying it.
reminds me of when I was getting my license a few years back. the stalling, the low rpm because the gear is too high, the awkward shifting, the uneven acceleration, the heavy breathing. ah the memories!
This is absolutely fucking hilarious lmao. Best advice I can give you is to just slow everything down - don't try to rush anything, especially the clutch, just make all your arm and leg movements nice and smooth. It also helps to modulate the RPMs when pulling away by blipping the throttle, which means you just need to give it more blips to prevent it from bogging down.
It’s great to see you learning manual. My biggest suggestion would be to sloooowwwwwwww down the process. Don’t rush. Driving manual is a balancing act as you’re going to be aware of. Feel the car, even in a vehicle of this caliber you can feel what it needs to do. Slow down on the clutch pedal, and give it gas when you just barely feel the car start to move on its own.
Learning in a car like this just makes going to newer manuals all that easier. Learnt in my grandfather's 1986 Jetta before moving onto my instructor's 2020 car.
This makes me feel so much better about my learning experience and overall purchase of my first manual shitbox purchase cause it sounds so much better, 2006 Scion xa with 230 thousand miles and it still sounds beautiful the suspension just absolutely fucked🤣💀
Forgetting it was in neutral and revving at the pedestrians before chunking into 1st absolutely made my day, and it's only 4am

the subtitle saying dont judge im still learning, i feel ya, youll get the hang of it, we all start somewhere and we all in the end drive it well at some point
Don't stress it it look exactly like this for me when i was learning...
Have fun, follow the speed limit, and be safe.
we all started somewhere bro its alright! what did u use to record this?
Just my phone with a jerry rig POV set up. Fold a piece of paper over the phone and bite it with your mouth
so much chaos in one video
this is genuinely the most entertaining thing I have seen in awhile I am dying at this
greatest video of all time
oh my god, i was just staring at the e brake at the start. why would you leave that in my guy? wtf 😂😂🤣🤣🤣 and the stalling over and over again. my god i would not let you near my car. hope you have improved since you uploaded this. god speed and dont die
dude this is one of the most relaxing videos i have ever seen
A few things to try and help you on your journey:
1) Get someone who knows manual to take the car on a little test drive, if theres something wrong with the clutch or any other issues you might not realise as you don't know what "right" feels like.
2) Watch English Driving Instructors as we all learn manual over here so they know how to teach it more effectively than a lot of the American vids I've seen - I highly recommend "Conquer Driving"
3) If you do stall just leave it in first and push the clutch down and restart the engine, no need to go into neutral.
4) Just practice on a car park (parking lot) setting off and moving. Don't be afraid to ride the clutch a bit, it's not gonna do any damage if you're at a reasonable RPM, it's what the clutch is designed to do!
5) Don't try to set off quick at junctions (intersections), stop signs etc. Just take it easy and go slowly, if you try to go quickly at the beginning you're way more likely to stall.
Good luck!
amazing reply and detailed information! thanks
Conquer driving a real one fr fr
This summer I'll start driving lessons and I feel like this will be relatable af
Just got a GR Corolla and been practicing manual for the first time. You give me courage to go out on the highway.
That was the most anxious ive ever been in my life
i still be stalling at light cause i get distracted. your doing good bro
I understand these clutches, I remember driving a 1997 shitbox with 58bhp some months ago, you can't feel the clutch I mean it was so worned out, almost 0 torque.
Is it only me or was this so satisfying to watch?
Way more calm and youll handle it. From my point of view you keep yanking the clutch up way to fast. Theres no rush, take your time. The car also seems to be on its last few legs. learning manual on a worn clutch sure makes it a lot more difficult.
Thanks, yeah I was in the bad habit of dumping the clutch
@@Lucasfazzini same, i had to learn to let off slower
manual is pretty hard to learn, so you are a real man in my book
I'm curious: how long have you been driving manual for?
@@gio0042 when this video was made. Never
@@Lucasfazzini tbh can't even hate then...

One of the most relatable videos I've ever seen
You need to keep uploading man, show all the progress to your skill and your accord
Good luck!
This is the realest, funniest shit I've ever seen in my life
we all start somewhere, and in a few years you’ll look back to this and have a good laugh and see you’ve learned from your mistakes 😂😁👍👍
I’ve been driving stick for about 2 months now and yesterday I stalled at a light for the first time in a few weeks, I think it was because my dad was in the car with me and he’s very much a keen driver..
I was getting honked at and my dad thinking I was going to freak out like I did before was telling me it’s ok just restart the engine and I just restarted it without saying a word and got it going smoothly 😅
No one’s “in a rush” to get anywhere and no one matters more than anyone else on the road especially!
(FWD vehicle, so the transmission was under the hood)
now i'm floating gears on an asynchronous twin stick tractor and having a blast.
good job, OP. you're brave for posting this!
Respect for posting this with no cuts or edits.
europeans probably be rolling on the floor cringing at this video
lmaooo this is so me. im also new to manual and stall in the gr86. love how real this video is.
19 yrs old, my first car, and still, is a 1989 civic that I learned to drive manual in.
Bro you made my day LMAO. Made me forget I'm still stalling on uphill with traffic (that shit is fucking nerve wracking)
This is so real, and so funny. I remember these days!
This video should be played in art museums
Brings back memories of my old Renault, It one day decided to loose 1st and 2nd gear synchro's in a busy town centre, On a Saturday. And then left me in the rain twice when the electrics failed. Total POS, And i loved it 😂 Dw you'll be slamming gears in no time, Good job man!
I literally have the same shitbox I’m learning manual in right now. I’m just gonna keep watching you and learn the mistakes before I drive again
As a daily no power steering and shitbox driver I have a suggestion to you: Try to slightly move the car before steering and you will notice that the steering will be more soft and easy to move! It can be difficult the first times because you just started with manual but with some patience you can improve your skills without any doubt!
i'm impressed how long you took to realize the handbrake was up
That car smoked a pack a day since 2000
My Dad first taught me how to drive manual when I was 9, watching this reminds me of how I constantly stalled the car and he would get angry at me but eventually I got the hang of it.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We’ve all been trough this that’s why this is so funny, cuz it’s relatable.
I don't know why but you made my day dude HAHAHAHAHAH. The chaotic energy 😂😂😂
*This video reminds me of me when i was learning manual on a Daewoo matiz, Keep it up bro* 🔝
Oh poor fella lol I’m on my learner plates right now learning manual I feel for you bro
Honestly in like 17 years on this website on my 20 year life.. this is genuinely the funniest shit I’ve ever seen.
Ah yes the feeling of learning stick and stressing every second you’re on the road.
Learning in a car like this just makes going to newer manuals all that easier. Learnt in my grandfather's 1986 Jetta before moving onto my instructor's 2020 car.
I feel so satisfied that i learned this within a few days 😂
This makes me feel so much better about my learning experience and overall purchase of my first manual shitbox purchase cause it sounds so much better, 2006 Scion xa with 230 thousand miles and it still sounds beautiful the suspension just absolutely fucked🤣💀
Man screw all those super car and hyper car POV videos. This is where it’s at 🔥🙌
Props to bro for actually trying to learn tho, most people are just too intimidated with manuals these days.
