Wait the car is supposed to start even in gear (with the clutch pressed in of course)?,Mine only starts when in neutral... is this how I find out it's broken?

Man I was in your shoes not too long ago, went almost 3 hours and bought a manual Honda prelude 1992 and the engine started knocking when I got 30 minutes away from home. Definitely just keep practicing because it becomes second nature. I paid almost the same amount you did for your accord, I will say in restoring it make sure you go for function before cosmetics!!! Fix that exhaust out the hood and any mechanical issues, maybe head to the junkyard because tan interiors are common for that generation and get the small things. Most of all have fun with it!!! In the process of fixing my car still honestly 😅 looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
I'm jealous that you have the BA8 trim of the 4th gen Prelude with no ABS. I still have my 92 Prelude that I bought as my first car for nearly 11 years now.
When you stall you don't need to check if your in neutral before you restart, leave the car in gear, you are working through interruptions not stopping, good work Broski 🔥🔥🔥🔥
i'd still make sure it's in 1st gear, when I was learning I was stuck at a traffic light for like 5 mins with my mum because neither of us realised i was still in 3rd
In the England, you have to get either a manual or automatic liscense, although no one over learns on an automatic and will do the manual test. It seems the US has wayy more automatics in general - seems like a shame to me tbh. Glad to see your'e learning and keeping it going, a much more fun way to drive!!
one reason is we have alot of ground to cover day to day makes more sense to have an auto when youre driving farther than the next town over for work or food, in smaller places i can imagine every km you drive would matter
@@legend131000 I agree, my manual doesn't bother me in the highway, somedays i wish i had an automatic for driving through the crowded small streets in the city lol
@@SyncF As somebody that's been driving for 6 years now, (I'm still rather young), and I enjoy driving alot, especially since I drive an old but fun car, a manual is absolutely a must have for me for any form of "fun" factor, I've driven quite a few cars up till this point, and at least to me, the auto is just mindnumbingly boring, because people say it's better for city traffic and commuting to work, sure that I agree with, but still would rather drive a manual, because driving an automatic make commuting to work feel more like a chore, while driving a manual even in traffic just to work, makes it at least a tad bit more exciting and lifts my mood personally.
I started the same way in an 03 manual jeep! After a while it becomes second nature, you learn to listen to the engine for when to shift. I will say this takes me back to learning how to drive manual.
Proud of you for posting this. Gave me a good reminder of the scares I had when i was first learning 😂 you can only get better with practice, so have confidence and dont be afraid to stall
Aye my man. I got the same car. Purchased mine for $1600 at 189k miles with a stick too. They are great cars and super fun as well. I drive mine all the time and racked up 25k miles on it, nearly stress-free. It never left me stranded and I had to only replace wear items (clutch and timing belt) during my ownership Unsure if this is your first car or whatnot, but if you fix her up you'll definitely love it over time. They truly are underrated cars. P.S. I would prioritize getting that power steering fixed, the power steering is super nice on these cars.
Facts I learned manual in a 02 accord. Super fun cars mine had 238k when I bought and sold at 249k. Probably only stalled it 3 times total when learning manual. And how it locks out first gear after pretty much moving really helps.

Serious answer (cause i got nothin better to do). It can be for any or all of the below reasons: 1. High hp POV drivers are more common 2. This video is far more relatable 3. reminds me of when I was getting my license a few years back. the stalling, the low rpm because the gear is too high, the awkward shifting, the uneven acceleration, the heavy breathing. ah the memories!
here is a tip: Because it is a 4 stroke engine car, leave it in first when you stop and put the clutch in, and spend some time learning clutch control. every car is slightly different, so even if you had experience with another car, it would still take time to get used too. Nice to see an american bothering to learn stickshift though. Here in the uk, most people drive stick, but I hear most americans have given up on it, which is dumb. Its fun.
He needs to get the point where the clutch grabs, so he will be able to control it faster. I´ve learnd how to drive in a car like this, but in a better state.
Huge respect to this guy driving a stick shift in a ****box but keep it up you will be insane at manual transmission! (like my dad driving manual for 14 years)

This brought me back to my driving lessons, where I live 90%+ of the cars are manual, and so was the one I was learning with, I couldn't keep the car from dying if my life depended on it! But it gets way better overtime, I love manual cars
Way more calm and youll handle it. From my point of view you keep yanking the clutch up way to fast. Theres no rush, take your time. The car also seems to be on its last few legs. learning manual on a worn clutch sure makes it a lot more difficult.

The peddle should get a little stiffer/heavier when the clutch is engaging. Also make sure your pushing the clutch all the way in when disengaging.
But dont let other drivers discourage you. Learning another way to drive will make you a better driver overall. Keep it up.
Ya this is how we gonna keep the stick shift cars alive
Best way to feel the clutch is to do it in gear with the handbrake on, you'll feel the bite point when it starts shuddering
Thats funny, here in Brazil we are Forced to learn with manual on driver School.
Stuck?? you mean manual?? Never gotten why you Americans call manual "stick" lol basically every car has a "stick" that changes gears, auto or manual. My grandma in her 1996 accord automatic has a "stick" because it.. ready.... has a "stick" that changes "gears"

It's lowkey a viscerally emotional artpiece

As a European, this was very interesting to see, because here you can't drive manual if your license is only for auto.
yeah same. I find it crazy that you can be in a car alone while learning manual from scratch.
I thought to myself one day wondering why we don’t make that a thing in the U.S. Manual is way more complicated to learn then automatic
in eastern europe automatics are very rare, at least in my part of the city so everyone knows how to drive a manual
@@nizam-alem6761 I mean, I don't know which country you're from, but automatics are not uncommon where I am, but most of the times used on luxury and performance cars.
Yea used to be like that in my country but for some reason they changed it to everyone with a full license can drive manual even with no experience, kind of dangerous because people think they can just get in and go but in reality it takes a good amount of time to get used to it
Nothing will ever be more painful than stalling in the middle of an intersection during rush hour 😭😭
as someone who daily's a manual, i don't stall often, but if i do i don't take it out of gear, i just keep the clutch in. hope this advice helps

@@KookiDowgLUCKYYY. I love Preludes dude

i'd still make sure it's in 1st gear, when I was learning I was stuck at a traffic light for like 5 mins with my mum because neither of us realised i was still in 3rd
This is one of the greatest videos i've ever seen. Thank you for posting this. Reminded me of how much abuse my first manual took lmao
why are your power windows immaculate and the rest of the car is made out of recycled tuna cans
@@redlight3932 To be fair, driving on the highway be it in an auto or a manual isn't very different.
@@legend131000 You enjoy riding the clutch and changing gear 5 times every 10 metres in city stop start traffic?
this is what it feels like to drive in a stress dream.
I started the same way in an 03 manual jeep! After a while it becomes second nature, you learn to listen to the engine for when to shift. I will say this takes me back to learning how to drive manual.
This is funny as fuck. You play the learner driver character very well.

Aye my man. I got the same car. Purchased mine for $1600 at 189k miles with a stick too. They are great cars and super fun as well. I drive mine all the time and racked up 25k miles on it, nearly stress-free. It never left me stranded and I had to only replace wear items (clutch and timing belt) during my ownership
Unsure if this is your first car or whatnot, but if you fix her up you'll definitely love it over time.
The clutch going isn't a 'wear item'

@@whosdenzel haha facts mane🤝
Why is this more entertaining than high hp pov drives 😆😆
Serious answer (cause i got nothin better to do). It can be for any or all of the below reasons:
1. High hp POV drivers are more common
2. This video is far more relatable
3. Video is arguably pretty funny
4. Video arguably elicits other emotions (sorta #2 but) such as empathy, sympathy, pride in another driver persevering with a shitbox and learning manual and with no power steering for good measure
5. Something I was gonna put here but can't remember now lol
2:02 that second gear shift tho, never seen such quick shift at such low rpm.
so much chaos in one video
I’ve been daily driving manual for 11 years and every single second of this video was relatable. You got this man it only gets easier 😂

Video accurately describes how I felt driving manual for the first time, I thought I had it all down with youtube videos 😂😂
Is it only me or was this so satisfying to watch?
that's just you man this video hurt
here is a tip: Because it is a 4 stroke engine car, leave it in first when you stop and put the clutch in, and spend some time learning clutch control. every car is slightly different, so even if you had experience with another car, it would still take time to get used too.

(like my dad driving manual for 14 years)
The way I was laughing the whole video quietly cuz I next to my girl rn had my tearing up bro.
I couldn’t contain myself 🤣🤣🤣
A few things to try and help you on your journey:
1) Get someone who knows manual to take the car on a little test drive, if theres something wrong with the clutch or any other issues you might not realise as you don't know what "right" feels like.
2) Watch English Driving Instructors as we all learn manual over here so they know how to teach it more effectively than a lot of the American vids I've seen - I highly recommend "Conquer Driving"
3) If you do stall just leave it in first and push the clutch down and restart the engine, no need to go into neutral.
4) Just practice on a car park (parking lot) setting off and moving. Don't be afraid to ride the clutch a bit, it's not gonna do any damage if you're at a reasonable RPM, it's what the clutch is designed to do!
5) Don't try to set off quick at junctions (intersections), stop signs etc. Just take it easy and go slowly, if you try to go quickly at the beginning you're way more likely to stall.
Good luck!

Balls for uploading this. After about 6 months of driving manual, I finally seem to have gotten the hang of it, so this is too relatable
Way more calm and youll handle it. From my point of view you keep yanking the clutch up way to fast. Theres no rush, take your time. The car also seems to be on its last few legs. learning manual on a worn clutch sure makes it a lot more difficult.
