    "I love how we are too cool for things... and then we get a little older and that totally flips." So true! As I grow older, I find myself being more and more unapologetic about things I enjoy. We live life to enjoy it, dangnabbit!

    As a proud elementary school teacher, I loooooove token economy systems. For me, it gives my students incentive to behave better in class while earning something they're into. I'm so glad you're using such an amazing system Ash. 🎉🎉😎

      When i was in school, a teach had a similar system. At the end of each month the class would choose to do something fun. We have had picnics outside, snow tubing field trip, and such. It made the school year fun.

    This seems like a really good idea, I might try it sometime! Something that's helped me is writing down the things I need to do and approximately how long it will take to complete them so I have a kind of timetable to follow and don't get distracted, doing things that I enjoy inbeween tasks helps keep me motivated as well :)

    I do something similar with exercise! Each time I workout, I get to fill in a box on my tracker (I do rainbow order to make ti extra fun), then when the tracker is filled in I get to buy myself a present! I just finished filling in my first tracker and I bought myself a three month subscription to a company that mail you an envelope full of stickers every month

    This would be awesome for those that are autistic and ADHD and find it a suffering struggle to do our chores and exercise and such. Im definitely going to give this a try for myself. Just trying to find the motivation to drag my butt to the gym is difficult for me. Lol
    Thanks for sharing this!! 💜

    Oh, that's a bit ironic - I JUST started doing a sticker chart along these lines. Basically any time I do something like go to bed on time or wake up with my alarm on a day off, etc, I get a sticker, and when I fill out the 'chart', I'm allowed to purchase a reward. I started by having clouds that I put the stickers in, but since I have star stickers rn, I switched to constellations, so now I have to complete a constellation to earn a reward

    I love how this reads as an as but like, it's just a thing you made for yourself that other ppl could make for themselves on their own

    I still listen to the whole outro every time, I love it. I try and say it along and it makes me smile. I love you and your fam and videos lots! I think I might enact some system like this for me and my partner. Thank you so much for the idea and tips!!!❤️

    This is a cool way to motivate me to do the not-so-fun adulting tasks on my schedule! I think it could be both a useful tool for getting stuff done, AND be a fun creative project to design my currency tokens. I'm eyeballing my polymer clay supplies right now, and I've got a few ideas bubbling in my brain. This is gonna be fun! 🥰🥰🥰

    We get too cool for things then get older and it flips, no truer statement can be made 😂 littles in my family are 'too grown up' for those fruit pouch things and im over here like 'these are the greatest thing ever! Some of them have dinosaurs on them too!'

    I do the same thing for studying! Every 30 minutes = 1 euro I can spend on something I enjoy, like videogames or cosplay

    Neat! I use habitica and have created a bunch of custom rewards for motivation for different coin levels. I also write out a paper list each day of just the hardest stuff and an estimate of how long it'll take because I can't ignore it as easily as a digital list.

    I love this idea and I've tried this kind of thing often, but the issue that I have is that my brain will be like "well, i can live without the reward anyways so why work for it" so I won't do the task because I don't need the reward

  • @emschlef
    @emschlef 7 місяців тому +1

    I can get a surprising amount of work done by just setting a timer, even for a short time, and working on a task. I often will go over time, but on the days I don't my brain still gets a hit of dopamine from the competitiveness and completion of a timed task.
    I absolutely love how your system implements both a tangible reward in the short term (fun coins) as well as the long term. I'm excited to try it myself and make some shrink plastic coins. And unrelated but that shirt looks great on you!

    I have a grid i fill out daily, its nice to see everything all laid out. Just make sure you dont over load the grid with too many things or its daunting 😂 i just do

    Did i practice any art

    Yes, it makes sense. I'm 43 and I totally lean into being a goof or a dweeb or a dork. I wish there was less taboo around "age appropriateness" when it comes to objects and pastimes like games or toys. As adults, we need the cute cuddly things around us like plush toys to soften the hard edges of adulting. I bought lego for myself as an adult.

    I have a habit tracking app on my phone for things like movement, voice practice, flossing, brushing my teeth, etc. Habits that easily slip from me after a while or new ones that I just want to re-instate back into my life are fun to check-mark off when I remember to do them.
    I also have a fun little rewards thing, but usually happens at the end of the month if I do enough of x, y, or z. I have lower-reward tiers and higher ones too because honestly, just being kind to yourself throughout and not beating yourself up over not doing tasks that you have no spoons for on that day does help. Rewards are so so good, I do wish most of mine were not directly tied to how much money I have that month. Perhaps just some fun dates or new meal ideas are just as fun. It depends on everyone tbh, but I do love that good good rewards system myself c':

    • @comfybat
      @comfybat 7 місяців тому +1

      @@evercuriousmichelle it was called Loop Habit Tracker! very simple 'checkmark this box if you've done x' sort of style but it works for me. It does show you graphs of streaks, comparing months, etc. I like it but it's rather simple

    this is so cool! can you elaborate on the system? is each coin worth a certain $ amount?

    I know a LOT of people use this one- but gamifying the stuff I have to do helps me so much. At this point it's so ingrained in me I don't have to think about it much- If I put on the kettle I'm instinctively washing the 4 dirty plates I have, or unloading the dishwasher as fast as I can in the 2 minutes it takes for the kettle to boil. Putting timers on things helps me a lot!

    I would always go for letting the kids choose their own systems. We know that intrinsical motivation is the biggest. As you decide to earn coins and then treat you after a while, its intrinsical motivated. If you would put such a reward system on kids, it might backfire into a a systemd that holds rewards from them, if they have no energy, capacitiy or even motivation to do a task to earn something. ADHD people seem to really dig into reward systems. I´m pretty sure you consider this as well, as you are such an empathetic and respectful parent.

    Could you explain the system a bit more in detail? Like how do you convert one of the coins into the presents you give yourself? How many coins do you give yourself for a task?
