I'm a minimalist and it's so hard

- After accidentally becoming something of a minimalist over the past few years, I thought I'd talk about some of its painful benefits. Minimalism hasn't just changed my consuming behaviour, but I find it's also changed the way I approach and view the world significantly, and I really wanted to touch upon that!

Loved this, Elizabeth! I can def relate to the point about creating great work with. I can't tell you how many times I've thought, "Once I get this *thing* my videos are going to be next level". Then I never even use it. Nice work!!
I have just recently fallen for the same trap! Elizabeth is on point with her content.
My Minimalist journey began by watching your content Matt, so thank you.
Absolutely! I’m convinced it’s a huge reason I never even tried things just because of the guilt and the negative feelings towards them. (Also thanks for your minimalism videos Matt!)
@@elizabethfilips I love watching you productive people talk to each other about productivity and staff. ......thanks, guys so much love...

Hello
A lot of people don't realise minimalism isn't just about having less its about letting go of things you don't need, if you own a 100 plates and you need and use them every day then that's minimalism. But don't prioritise minimalism over happiness, if you want to fill your house with things that make you happy then that's fine.
I think it is up to people's perception in their life. We can choose the way to make us happiest! :)
Ahh… to be truly Joyful 🎆✨🌅🌎😲🤗
Well put
It’s nice to hear productivity from a feminine perspective. It sheds light on more of the emotional side of productivity. You’re talking about what makes it hard for people to implement consistently. Nice video once again.
Good stuff! (before Ali Abdaal says the same thing😂)
aww you beat me to it :)
best comment ever
good stuff
Hahahahaha
HAHAHAHAHA
Two things define you : Your patience when you have nothing & your attitude when you have everything.
this is lovely.thanks for this
I am a hoarder who slowly got rid of many simply useless things in the last year. I'm still not done with the process of decluttering, but I will not go to the extreme of possessing just one plate or one pair of jeans. It's simply too extreme. I train myself always to ask the question if it's necessary to buy something or not.
Balance is key.
Since lockdown started a year ago, I have been sifting through my belongings to triage them in to 'Do not need', 'Need', and 'Nice to have'. I have carried out this exercise twice this year so far, and each time I do I feel better for having recycled items or sold them to other people who want them now. Owning as few items as I need is my objective, and I don't want to have to spend lots of time triaging in future! Minimalism is an ongoing process rather than an end state, at least for me.
This guys is called consistency! you produce such amazing videos week after week.. you just get more and more amazing. I even love your newsletters
This is the video I really needed to see 😭 I really struggle with actually throwing/giving things away (even when I know I don’t really get any use out of them anymore) and it’s definitely holding me back at this point. This was such a cool reflective video - I don’t know if I’d ever be able to become a minimalist, but it’s definitely made me rethink how I think about the things I have!
LOVE the quote 'say a quick NO and a slow YES'. You always have such incredible sources and knowledge from all you read and consume. Thank you for sharing!
I absolutely adore your personality and brutal honesty Elizabeth. Also, the opening of this video has me SO impressed. Your hard work is super inspiring!!!
Thank youuu!!
@@elizabethfilips love you so much💋💋💋💕
I definitely relate to this. Keeping my focus on my needs vs my wants is liberating. Your mind tends to set its attention on what is actually essential rather than dabbling through millions of permutations. It adds to objective decision-making as well. I am trying to apply this to my educational needs; I tend to think I need to study and learn everything, but this sometimes wears me out, and I procrastinate. I would love to understand your journey through minimalism.🙂
Watched till the end - loved the “quick no and slow yes” theory, thank you for sharing it :)
Do you know why I like you Elizabeth?
Because you are just you
You are a poet 😅❤️
Simp
I've always appreciated how you put your thoughts out there - structured and on point. Must be the minimalist in you 😊 Keep it up, Elizabeth! Stay safe always
I would LOVE to hear you talk more about the practicalities of minimalism!! I recently watched a documentary on netflix about minimalism and being someone that struggles with maintaining attention/quick decision making (that isn't impulsive) it's something that I'm really interested in learning more about!
This is so timely! Totally resonates with me. Thank you for putting up this video ❤️
I really should take notes, my student accommodation is tiny and a dedicated burst of minimalism would be great. I suppose I am just nostalgic... Great video!
The part of the video where you explained the study was so eye-opening.
I’ve found out about your channel recently. I revel in whenever I watch your videos. They are so useful and interesting. Thank you 🔥😊
i've been watching her videos since yesterday literally , she's such an inspiration 😭❤️
I learn so much from your videos. I love your gentle aura.
Great work, as always!
Very nice topics!
You're seriously a gem. I felt it when you said about holding onto food cards, chocolate wrapper from your grand dad. I wish you all the luck, you're going to be a great youtuber and yes, I'm in love with your hair. Keep up the good work and thank you for the content. Take care!😇
I love the concept of doing great work with what we have. I often think that a certain *thing* will make me more productive or successful, when in reality, the most important component is my work.
You know it’s going to be a good video when it has an Alain de Botton book in the first 30 seconds 🔥
I’ve finally targeted the right audience
Ha ha ha... ... what no Tim Ferris or Sam Harris... ... : )))))))
Wow, thank you so much for this video! I can relate to this, and I appreciate all the effort you put into your channel. Wishing all the best for you.
First
I just stumbled upon your channel and I'm glad I did!! Your content is awesome!
This makes me wanna transition into being a minimalist, even if it's hard. Great video, Elizabeth!
Shared your channel link to as many people as possible....Hope many more will get inspired and start working with what they have rather than complaining abt what things they don't have ....You are a spcl person in many ways ....
It's been a long time that i wanted to be a minimalist and travel light....but failed all the time...I love how you put this minimalist thought so positive and really actually execute it. This video really motivated me to give it another try...wish me luck~~~
Love your minimalism video. Please make more of this topic. Love your channel too!
Wow! You almost brought tears to my eyes with this one. So engaging to see & hear you out in this video. Made me feel extremely immeresed in the situation(s) you mentioned. I am grateful to you for sharing this, and I genuinely wanna give you my heart bcoz your sky is indeed full of stars.. 🤗️🤗️
Heartwarming 8 minutes. Thanks for helping me find my clarity for today.
you sound genuine , and it’s RARE. 💫🙌🏻
Now I feel like I need to make a video about this topic as well, I really need to say few things in regard! Thanks dear! Helped me a lot!
Hey, Elizabeth every time I watch your video I feel like I am listening to my inner voice. I like the way you admit your vulnerabilities and embrace your current self. I like the ownership topic you touched on
loveddd this, so insightful, and the editing 😍
Very insightful. I can relate on a lot of levels of what you’re saying. I’d like to see a breakdown of other areas I.e. workflow, personal possessions etc. thank you as always!
i have been seeing your videos from quite a while, and irdk why i never had the chance to tell you this, but, your soul is so beautiful , you are an amazing person really... i hope to see you where your heart belongs, much love, your kinda new follower :)

Thank you so much for making this. Learned a great lesson. Love your contents 💜💜💜💜
I love your videos so much! I am also a medical student from Brazil and I identify a lot with you!! ❤️❤️
Love this!! The boundaries one really rings true to me.. I am working on that myself right now haha so thanks for the encouragement!
Thanks for watching :)
You are making quite fast and furious but a really tremendous thing which is a great mixture of a student's life style and a little bit peek in social media🙂 keep going!
Hey Elizabeth,
Very interesting video, I’d love to see one more on the practicalities and implementation of minimalism.
I can relate to the issue you mentioned of buying things to do a good job, I’m more aware of they know although I still do occasionally fall into that trap.
Thanks for the insights. Keep up the good work.
Love this video! So helpful! 🖤🖤✨
Elizabeth - just a quick note/comment; I so admire how you can put your thoughts out there in public! What I perhaps most "admire" is that have actually given them enough thought to organize and verbalize them. I personally think doing so is ultimately both cathartic and healthy, however, I really struggle with all elements of doing so. I actually fear that most of us just aimlessly wander through this adventure and really never much think about things, let alone organize and analyze our preferences - both good and bad. I guess all I am trying to say is - well done!
Thank you Steve, really appreciate this perspective :) makes me feel better about UA-cam
I will say again: it is amazing how much thought you have included in this video and how many layers it actually has. It is a really great job in the full meaning of the word "great". And it is also amazing for me (#3 "amazing"😅) that you are able to do it at such a young age. Congratulations!
i loved the video!! Really opened my eyes to the idea of being a minimalist :) thank you 😀
Great content, really appreciate your work.keep working.god bless you.
Brilliant video. Would love to hear more about your journey towards minimalism
You are doing great work on this channel, good luck for ur future
I love minimalism and I am trying practise it for about 3 weeks. It's hard but I am trying my best to stay with it. I am 15 and I haven't told about it to anyone not even my mom.😅 You are a realistic minimalist cause you have 1 pair of jeans and I have 5 of them.
Love ur videos.......
I wish you made this video earlier, I have bought so many stuff throughout the years, my room doesn't look as clean as before but because I spent money on those things I find it hard to throw them away, but I know I should. I want a clean apartment like yours. I hope I will get there one day!!!🙏
Great piece. I'm beginning my minimalist journey by starting with my wardrobe. Only keeping a select few neutral coloured items that all match up with each other. Quality over quantity. I'm better dressed while spending a fraction of my time thinking about what to wear.
Really quality conversation 👍
minimalism for me is not wasting stuff, being more efficient and environmentally friendly
i just found your channel - and uploaded one minute ago? i'm so excited to watch the video :)
Ohhh thanks for dropping by :)
I love this video. It is seldom that I comment and seldom that I save a video but this genuinely touched me...
Thank you!
@@elizabethfilips No thank YOU. Because now you've directed me towards a topic that might potentially change my life. I never knew this was something..
I've gone through something similar in many of my creative hobbies. I used to think that I needed great cameras and lenses etc. but really without big visions about project the equipment was meaningless. I find so much more enjoyment trying to do my best with what I can get my hands on with little or no money.
Awesome! Please do a video on the things that you do own. Also, I love what you do with your beautiful hair. Would you please do a tutorial on your minimalist beauty routine & tools? Thanks!
Great lessons as always!
this is documentary style quality! thanks so much!
Ohhh the flattery :)
So nice speaker love ❤️ the way you told everything I do relate this thing
Each video of yours teach me something 💜 to do better with my life ❤️❤️
Hello fellow empath! I love how you are so open, emotional and how you see the world! your videos are so beautiful thanks to this :)
Hey Elizabeth, hope you're well. I would love to see a video on how you keep your physical and mental health well. For example what you eat and what exercises you do and what you do for your mind to keep well too. Obv this is just an idea I'm just intrigued 🙈 This is a really thought provoking video, very much enjoyed it. I do seem to buy for the thrill of buying and ending up feeling worse for it, giving money to charities is such a good thing
Hi Elizabeth! Your videos has really helped me a lot. Thanks and keep up the good work! =)
Beautifully expressed ideas and wishdom...Thank you Eli :-)
I love being semi-minimalist! It's just that I live with family and they have a hard time, like really hard time, opening up to the possibilities. They have, but not enough according to my mindset. I used to have a big hoarding problem, and I still do. But, every so often, I will look at what I've hoarded and gently kill the items I longer care about by throwing them away or recycling them. I really admire your character! I like you for who you are, which is artistic, dedicated, emotional, genuine, authentic, intelligent, hardworking, and so on. You're doing your best and it shows! Best of luck to everyone reading this.
BUT I feel like sometimes I could benefit from being less minimalist, especially when it comes to physical papers and files. I am running out of space in my home and I have been putting off reorganizing everything since I simply do not have the time or even familial consent to do so. I really want to sort all my physical and digital clutter. I'm pretty good at mental clutter. This is a nice topic to talk about, thanks for sharing!
So i haven’t watched ur vids for a while and omg you just keep going up and up well done!!!!
Haha thank you!
Btw, yes about how minimalism looks like-wardrobe&kitchen tour if possible.
I've been trying to convert to minimalism. I'm just starting out and getting to know your views and experiences regarding it helped a lot! Thanks for this video! Also, could you pls do a video about your journey to getting to medical school? What were your expectations and how you dealt with, if you had any, the fear of maybe not getting there, etc? Again, thanks for you videos, they are very helpful. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for putting this video 🌹💓
Would love to see more videos about this topic!
I use to collect movie tickets from when my nan and I went to the cinema, beautiful video idea Elizabeth 😊
This video is so nice you sharing your experience it is helpful for me as a student 🖤🖤
I would LOVEo see more practical minimalism content
Very mind opening, thank you!
I was kicked out of home at 16 so I became a minimalist by need. I also moved a lot and couldn’t afford and didn’t want to spend lots on rent so live tiny. Currently as a small family we have accumulated some extra stuff but I’m consciously aware of decluttering and minimising regularly. Feels amazing having less.
Thank you for this Elizabeth ❤️ I’m striving to become some what of minimalist, I ask myself before buying something do I really need it and after exams will be donating a lot of clothes to charity. Love your content!
Thank youu :)
This was so insightful❤️❤️
Yes please more on minimalism and hacking the mind to need/want less!!!!!!!!!!
I went into my neighbors apartment below me who has the same floorplan and it was like walking through a maze. He had so many tables, shelves, chairs, a grand piano that it felt like you were walking through the stacks in a university library. i came back up to my apartment and it felt like one of those artist lofts in Brooklyn. Minimalism all the way!
Love the mugs example 😃
I love you Eli! ❤️
Waow, am also a minimalist. I always knew there was kind of a weirdness about being a minimalist,, and that it has both its bad and good side, but I never saw it clearly as you explained,
Thanks Elizabeth
Always as marvelous as you are
Stay blessed, God bless you.
That hit me hard . " Don't believe everything you think "
Very wise, Elizabeth. Minimalism leads to contemplation of impermanence. That allows one to rebase one's attitude to stuff and live much more lightly.
admire and support your minimalist lifestyle
I’ve been wanting to go through this process for so long especially recently I’ve felt like my mind has been drowned in things I don’t need to have on my mind, even when I wake up in the morning I’m surrounded by so many things it’s kind of exhausting 😅 I’m not going to claim I’m going to go and purge my life after watching this video but it’s definitely left me with something to reflect on
Really admire the minimalism! 🤍☁️
absolutely love your channel and your philosophy of life. it's very unique and impressive. I've always wanted to be a minimalist but have been way too clingy to things to let go of, and this video made me feel like giving minimalism a try :)
I've become a minimalist over the years and it's so freeing, I'm still working on it and how I wish my family would be more minimalistic but I'm only interested in buying things that I truly need and will use. For example, if I need a pen, I will buy just that 1 pen and use it up until I get another, rather than having loads of pens lying around. I'm also a big thrifter and prefer to decorate my home from thrift stores and when I do need to get rid of something I don't throw it out I will donate to my local charity shops. The one thing I do admit I have troubles with are books, but I'm starting to only allow myself to buy a book that I truly want in my collection and will re-read, others I borrow from my local library. Thanks for sharing! :)
Good video, congratulations! 🎉
I've just subscribed to your channel because you seem a kindred spirit. I'm a minimalist to.. I'm not a fan of clutter plus cleaning is so much easier 🖤
Really great, to talk about! It's a true difficult way, when someone lives before in collecting things way. In minimalistic way was great during my study life, where I lived in hall of residence - now, back in own flat it is hard again to reactivate this lifestyle... 🙈😅 but again - your content remember me on a movie quote: Only obsessional neurotics & egomaniacs with too little self-esteem have the need to collect things. It's from Wallstreet 2 I guess. I stick this in handletters on my door in my second flat - however I forget it to stick on anywhere in my third. 🙈😅 Thank you for remembering inderectly. ❤️
Lovely 👌🏻 Have a wonderful day 🌻
