Ughh! My heart is a bit heavier today... What a day! When I woke up this morning, I did what I usually do: I made my way from the bed to the cold family room where I warmed myself with coffee and read the news before heading off to work. This morning was different: when I read the news, the first headline said, "Bowie is dead." I spat out my coffee and ran to wake up everyone in the house. I woke up my family in a panic: "Bowie is dead! Bowie is dead!" This was less than 12 hours ago, and now I'm here listening to this particular song--the only song I will comment on about this--and I'm feeling a sense of awe and gratitude. I didn't know the guy, but his tunes made their way into the soundtrack of my life, and that's worth a lot to me. God speed, David Bowie. Thank you. If the electronic footprint of our digital comments never truly fade, then let these words speak out forever in gratitude and appreciation for your artistry and your humanity.

I don't think he has ever "pretended" anything in his life, I think he is on a marvelous journey of self discovery and enlightenment. BTW, I know that he is an alien, because talent like that just can't come from this planet! It is totally cosmic and all encompasing. :-)
@CitySlickerShaun You're right about the smoking, he was completely smoke free by 2002, I saw it on the faq's on Bowiewonderworld, and I saw it in one of his interviews too. Wish he would have given it up sooner, maybe he wouldn't have had the heart attack, but better late than never. : ) I love this song too, it's so beautiful, I think hours was a great album.

destur, do you watch a lot of Bowie? He smokes like a chimney! Or, he used to, he's quit now. Anyway, if you've ever performed on stage, you know how easy it is to let the thing burn away while you're singing!
i think he's more handsome in his older years...more manly in an elegant way..the hair looks dashing on him..he was a beautiful tomboy in his youth.lol.
