I've actually happened to trigger Gorgo's positive reaction by ending a war by making abusive demands to the other Civ without destroying it. Have you tried this yet?
I think most of the interactions are bugged. I actually got Gorgo's positive reaction after destroying scythia and america cuz they were such asshats for some reason randomly declaring war and all(it may be because i was playing on deity). She says something along the lines of You would be an amazing spartan.
The Civilization Anime (canonically 700 years after Gandhi wages a nuclear first strike) starts with a rad animation of Mecha-Gandhi cracking the laser whip of tyranny over the globe and cackling maniacally. In a world where death and despair are commonplace, it's up to a few brave outcasts and their fantastic neural-link weapons to unite the disparate techno-tribes and have one last desperate shot at toppling this Mecha-Gandhi and his cyborg minions! But with a mysterious alien superweapon in construction, the clock is running out! Will they stop him in time? CIVILIZATION -80's anime intro plays-
As SilverMind put it, it was a bug that became kind of an internal meme of the series. Because programing a custom AI for each leader would be an incredible pain the the ass, they all share the same code, which takes a certain value for each characteristic, determining the likelihood of the leader to behave that way, such as "aggression", "expansiveness", "focus on economy", "likelihood of building nukes", "likelihood of using nukes", "likelihood of using nukes on an opponent who also has nukes", "likelihood of using nukes after being nuked" and so on. Each leader is actually a preset of values in these inputs to the AI program. Civ I took a value between 0 to 255. What happened to Gandhi was that he was actually the most peaceful leader, with an agressiveness stat of 1. If he adopted Democracy, his aggressiveness was reduced by 2. It should have been -1, but since the AI only took positive integers as input values, Gandhi's aggressiveness underflowed back to 255, the highest value, which resulted in rampant in him declaring war and flinging nukes everywhere. This behavior was eventually patched, but became so popular the devs kept Gandhi as the dude who's most likely to smash the big red button in all subsequent titles of the game. For example, in Civ V each AI leader gets a value between 1 and 10 for their traits. Each has a base value which the game randomly adds or subtracts a value between 0 and 2 to, caping it at 1 or 10. Gandhi has a value of 12 for both "build nukes" and "use nukes". It means he will always have a value of 10 for those traits because of the cap. civilization.wikia.com/wiki/Gandhi_(Civ5)
Really it just means that she doesn't like not having a foothold from which to expand and conquer that continent. Basically it's "How DARE you be out of my reach?".
Seems buggy. She kept popping up every 10 turns to complain , despite my continent being a barbarian infested wilderness. Eventually I founded a city and traded it to her , but that still didn't stop her bitching.
TheBritishBulldog she played everyone around her like her personal toys,it’s not her fault the men were choosing to fall at her feet.Under her rule,Egypt lived it’s best age but the following kings(who are unknown because of how irrelevant they were) were too weak against the romans whom they served like dogs. That is also in her historical profile
Gandhi: Sorry friend, I have no time, but I will send someone radiating and hotter than the sun! He will speak with voice of thunder and tell you and your people all about, nevermind, off to press the button!
About Gorgo: She declared war on me which I "won" because she could not go near any of my cities. I was prepared. Later after the peace treaty there was a cutscene where she said that I'm a good spartan and became friends. Gorgo is strange.
She was giving you the silent treatment and you had to show you didn't give a fuck so she finally would stop. Not really strange at all, just a female thing.

It represents how he wanted to westernize Russia after seeing how advanced countries like England, Austria, the Netherlands and France were. So it kind of make sense.
Let me give you some historical context. At the time when Peter came to power, Russia was severely lagging behind technologically due to the chaos and famines of the previous century. Peter saw that, and decided he's going to pull the country out of the dirt and straight to the top. He gathered a team of the best craftsmen and scientists he could find, and went on a long journey around Europe, learning about the European technologies, culture and way of life. He came back to Russia determined to reshape it into a European country. Now, normally such drastic changes would only happen over the course of a century or more, but Peter forced the change, resulting in most of it happening in only two decades. This was very stressful for the country, but he gave it the boost that would help it in the future. Before his rule, Russia had no fleet. He brought some engineers from Europe, mostly Netherlands, and built a pretty formidable fleet. Nothing like the English or Spanish of course. He also started some undesirable trends, like smoking, or the fact that the nobility could barely even speak Russian for the next century or more.
The way to trigger Tomyris' positive reactions is to do something that makes her unhappy, then promise not to do it and KEEP the promise. Quill18 did this a few times on his playthrough. For example, he moved units near her, and assured her he was not declaring war and agreed that he did not intend to declare war on her.
2:29 The subtitles and the voiceline are completely different. He is actually saying "We are a nation of faith. Your favour to our devotion honours yourself" or something like that
ChickenRieder Happens a lot, even in earlier Civs. I think it’s deliberate... probably trying to provide space for cultural nuances that can’t simply be reached by straightforward translations.
Harald in Civ6 honestly seems like that that one chadbro you have as a friend but don't deserve. From what I've seen in his cutscenes he's pretty chill, even when telling you about your weak Navy when other civs are somewhat aggressive about it.
Finally, they finally got the chinese correct. Civ 5's Wu Zetian spoke like a modern commoner bothered me soo much. They finally captured the part where historically kings of the warring states referred themselves as "Guaren" rather than "Wo," and emperors referred themselves as "Zhen." Good to see proper research. ;p Now, just hope when they add Korea back into the game, they will get the proper capital of Hanyang rather than Seoul, although the hope isn't high since they still botched up China's capital.
Erm, all the emperors would use "Zhen" and "Guaren". Just as in modern days, we would use "Wo" for when we use one word pronoun, and "Renjia" for circumstances almost like referring ourselves in the third-person.
Nay, it's still wrong: He should speak in Old Chinese, instead of saying the direct Modern Standard Chinese (Pekingese) cognates of the Old Chinese words.
Grace Liu Basically it's just reading a sentence of Mandarin cognates of the Old Chinese words, put in the same order as it would be in Old Chinese; it's not even a real language.
He's aggressiveness is at level 1 as a base. But when certain civics are triggered, this can cause the aggression meter to drop even further (to -1), and the game bugs and makes his aggression level 275 (the highest nuke-happy level).
Well he has always the two same agendas. Peacekeeper - which will make him very peaceful. Nuke Happy (the hidden one on Gandhi is always that one) - if by any way you end up at war with him (he never declares war on his own, even on deity), and if he has at least one nuke in his arsenal - you're sure to see it hit somewhere next turn. If he reaches Atomic era, do not declare war on him - and you'll be fine. Even if he denounces you, the peacekeeper agenda takes precedence so he can't declare war even with a casus belli. That said - if you're playing for a domination victory as late in the game as atomic era, the Nuke happy agenda will make him befriend you if you use your nuclear arsenal on another civ. Even if you declare suprise war with an egregious warmonger penalty, he'll overlook it if you use nukes. That said - he won't denounce you for that - but he will not befriend you. However, if you are attacked, or use a casus belli that yields moderate warmonger penalty or less, and use WMDs - he will ask to be your friend a couple of turns later (hasten that with the number of nukes you drop). He doesn't seem to give a bonus if you use thermonuclear warheads over standard nuclear ones - he doesn't care about the devastation it seems, but only about the number of warheads you fired at the enemy.
His civ gets all bonuses from all religions in his cities, not just the majority one. Thus in theory does help him quite alot. Offcourse religions on a whole in this game are quite weak to begin with... XD
I read about the real Kongo in school, they where good friends with the Portuguese and all because the Portuguese wanted to spread Christianity to them. They thought that was a real nice gesture until the Portuguese turned them to slaves. Oh well nothing good lasts
Regarding the Barbarossa quotes, The german translation is kinda inaccurate, his second sentence is "zu helfen diesem Reich, hieße tanzen mit dem Tode" which translated would be "helping that Reich would mean dancing with death". Which just sounds more badass and makes me wonder why it was not translated. The second part is not in future but in present tense:"Ich verstöre meine Feinde" which means "I destroy my enemies". This is a way more determined and imo threatening way, it turns from a threat into something he regards as a truth. He also says "verstöre" which could mean frighten as well as destroy. Furthermore "und ob ihr ihnen helft, auch euch" is again using less words than the translation, directly translated it means: "And if you help them, you too (or as well)", which turns the second part into "I destroy my enemies and if you help them, you as well." The way he uses short sentences is making his character appear more determined and confident in his abilities than the translation actually shows, this takes away from the character if you dont know german. Just my two cents, consider this as you will, just something i wanted to get off my chest. Edit: Frighten is actually a bad translation of "verstören" as well as fright is normally a temporary thing, "verstört" isnt a temporary condition, someone with PTSD is "verstört" by war, deeply scared, shaken in your roots. Pictures of shell shock in WW I and II show what being "verstört" means really well. The meaning can be similar to traumatised. This turns the threat he makes into so much more than just destroying the enemies forces, he threatens to destroy their mind and soul as well as their worldly belongings. i.ytimg.com/vi/8rGPq7OiqO4/maxresdefault.jpg
7:27 settle city near her promise not to do it again, trade with her, have strong army, be target of surprise attack... not sure what it was. but some of that. maybe all of that.
her accent is jarring though!! not that it sounds horrible or anything, but it sounds like someone trying to do a posh english accent but underestimating just how posh the royals are. royalty are trained to speak differently to the common folk because that's part and parcel of monarchy, they're meant to be different to the rest of us, supposedly. AND it's decreased over time so you can bet than in victoria's time the difference in accent would have been even starker! here she just sounds like some middle class english girl, she definitely wouldn't have sounded like that.
apparently this is a recording of victoria! ua-cam.com/video/Qot7WAiIAv8/v-deo.html not sure if it's genuine. according to the comments her first language was actually german, not english
I love how their gestures, emotion, tone of voice as well as choice of words builds a character, way stronger than in past games. I love it. I just miss my beloved Ally Boudicca.
Nukes. There is a running joke within civilization that Ghandi is very warlike in nature. This is because of a programming error that had him set to the lowest level of aggression, so angering him would bring it up to a hi of 255, or something like that. And because this effect only triggered in the late game around the time when nuclear weapons were being made, he usually ends up firing them upon his enemies. There are better explanations online.
Something that had to do with being friendly to him. his aggression level would drop by 2 from 1. causing it to go from 1 to 255 which basically meant the "peace keeper" was actually rushing nukes.
Actually, it was in Civilization 2, and the thing that triggered the error was a computer-controlled India discovering Democracy. When an AI civ in that game discovers Democracy, its aggression level drops by 2.
Some comments: Oh wow! Cleopatra is hot! Me: Eh... she's... okay? Honestly, I could take it or leave it. Now Catherine the Great, Wu Zetian, Dido and Theodora in Civ 5 on the other hand...
Fun fact : 4:35 Catherine don't say the same thing there is write in the subtitles, she say : Impressive, it look like your spies are everywhere ... My Ladies-in-waiting would be really pleased to "go with them" during some celebretion ... Maybe my english is not very good, I am french x)
I often get possitive Gorgo's reaction keeping my civilization at war with others. Almost each turn she says "you would make a good spartan" and stuff. XD I've never seen GIlgamesh's one as he is always conquering everyone and I befriend him before he obliterates me. (?) Tomyris has an invasive one for me, it triggers if you befriend her and you are not at war. She also says something about being peaceful and small civilizations, maybe you have to get a low score? Cool video!
Catherine actually says at 4:30: Impressive! It seems that your spies are everywhere. My ladies-in-waiting would be delighted (for me) to accompany them during the party.
This is actually easy to get friendship with Tomyris you might just have a same goverments. I got 17 friend points fot that. 17! We're were in alliance since we could sign it. The fun fact: i declare so many surprise wars to others in the game and get 130 warmonger points in relation with this woman but still can resign alliance.
Catherine of France: "You really should start paying attention to what's going on around you. There are games being played here on so many levels." Well isn't that ironic to todays standards?
It was a symbol of one of the Samerui clans that eventually ended up uniting japan during the Sengoku Jedai or something like that. Basically it's an important symbol in Japanese which is why Minamoto put it in Zelda and why Hojo is wearing it.
If I'm remembering my Shogun 2 right, that symbol is the "mon" (I think that's the word for a Japanese coat of arms? - not really sure) of the Hojo clan.
A note on Philip what he is saying is diferent from the subtitles. He says (roughly) : "We are a nation of faith, and your favor towards our devotion brings you honor"
They got the body language of the culture's so perfect! I'm not super sure about the others but for Gandhi his body language and even the emphasis on certain words is so spot on. I really appreciate it

Edward Collier it was a bug in civ 1 . Whenever Gandhi would chose democracy he will get an aggression of 255 and nuke everyone.
As SilverMind put it, it was a bug that became kind of an internal meme of the series.

Now, just hope when they add Korea back into the game, they will get the proper capital of Hanyang rather than Seoul, although the hope isn't high since they still botched up China's capital.
Erm, all the emperors would use "Zhen" and "Guaren". Just as in modern days, we would use "Wo" for when we use one word pronoun, and "Renjia" for circumstances almost like referring ourselves in the third-person.
Nay, it's still wrong: He should speak in Old Chinese, instead of saying the direct Modern Standard Chinese (Pekingese) cognates of the Old Chinese words.
goodj111 Dunno, it was already as incomprehensible Shakespeare to modern English.
Grace Liu Basically it's just reading a sentence of Mandarin cognates of the Old Chinese words, put in the same order as it would be in Old Chinese; it's not even a real language.
goodj111
No, not even Lianxujus go that far.

lol dat ghaddi.
is he still hyper-aggressive after a certain point?
Well I just fired the first nuke of the game... And he said "Great minds think alike." to me. Yeah, I think he still is.
At some point in the game, he gains the "Nuke Happy" trait. It's no longer a bug, but the meme is still there! :D
He's aggressiveness is at level 1 as a base. But when certain civics are triggered, this can cause the aggression meter to drop even further (to -1), and the game bugs and makes his aggression level 275 (the highest nuke-happy level).
xD Civ one memories
I do have seen the possitive reaction of Tomyris
"Nations like ours have never been the strongest. May you reach victories in times of peace".
that gandhi nuke frame though...
4:15
Milan and Venice:"I say Lombard League"
Barbarossa: "Oh shit"
Red Raven Lol
I still remember that from the Aoe2 campaigns haha
i called my religion denouncing Venice
Victoria is so cute haha
yeah too cute especially when you go to war with her ;)
she's one sassy woman, and i attest a LOT of british people are like that XD
Literate Internet User nah they're passive-aggressive :P
Nah Tomirys is way prettier
CUTE!!!
7:26 Hey, why did you zoom there?
yeah i was confused about this too, would love a reply.
Also, Greece under Pericles, Brazil and China are, in my opinion very butthurt civs.
Kaipax I can't wait for the rule 3- oh shit, I'm dead, because when you go r34, there's no going back.
I was confused about that too.

His civ gets all bonuses from all religions in his cities, not just the majority one.
Thus in theory does help him quite alot.
Offcourse religions on a whole in this game are quite weak to begin with... XD
Radicaldanny The other day Kongo denounced me because my civ was the same sex
Wait... What?! XD
I read about the real Kongo in school, they where good friends with the Portuguese and all because the Portuguese wanted to spread Christianity to them. They thought that was a real nice gesture until the Portuguese turned them to slaves. Oh well nothing good lasts
gorgo only gives positive reactions if you remain at war for a long time against someone who declared war on you
Did anyone notice that Catherine di Medici switches between speaking Italian and French?
She was born in Italy but later become the queen of france after her husband died
Dont question My Name Yeah, but the thing that threw me here was the lip-syncing. It's the same for when she's speaking either languages.
Englebert Magentaschweiger Just like some nuke warmonger that switch in English
they are still working on the game, animation is not easy to make
Dng Tien I doesn't really matter, though. The game is amazing as is.
Regarding the Barbarossa quotes,
The german translation is kinda inaccurate, his second sentence is "zu helfen diesem Reich, hieße tanzen mit dem Tode" which translated would be "helping that Reich would mean dancing with death".
Furthermore "und ob ihr ihnen helft, auch euch" is again using less words than the translation, directly translated it means: "And if you help them, you too (or as well)", which turns the second part into "I destroy my enemies and if you help them, you as well."
The way he uses short sentences is making his character appear more determined and confident in his abilities than the translation actually shows, this takes away from the character if you dont know german.

Moinouchat what meme?
Isn't there also a nuke related reaction to Saladin/Ghandi?
I'll give it a try ;]
The nuke one is Gandhi's hidden agenda. I think he always gets the nuke happy hidden agenda because
0:32 the face of someone who will nuke you out of existence
0:05 cleo looked at my P before saying my power is fragile, that could not be a more true statement
Wow Pericles beard is fucking awesome....
2:48 that was cool XD
I love how Philip II has to take a moment to process what you just said before drawing his sword
7:27 settle city near her promise not to do it again, trade with her, have strong army, be target of surprise attack... not sure what it was. but some of that. maybe all of that.
The queen of England has a beautiful voice.
her accent is jarring though!! not that it sounds horrible or anything, but it sounds like someone trying to do a posh english accent but underestimating just how posh the royals are. royalty are trained to speak differently to the common folk because that's part and parcel of monarchy, they're meant to be different to the rest of us, supposedly. AND it's decreased over time so you can bet than in victoria's time the difference in accent would have been even starker! here she just sounds like some middle class english girl, she definitely wouldn't have sounded like that.
example of how the british royals speak ua-cam.com/video/mBRP-o6Q85s/v-deo.html
apparently this is a recording of victoria! ua-cam.com/video/Qot7WAiIAv8/v-deo.html not sure if it's genuine. according to the comments her first language was actually german, not english
France, getting #TRIGGERED since 4000 BC
The obligatory Gandhi nuke reference is a nice touch.
I love how their gestures, emotion, tone of voice as well as choice of words builds a character, way stronger than in past games. I love it. I just miss my beloved Ally Boudicca.

WTF IS WITH GANDHI AT 0:34
If you play Civilization, you'll understand.
I like how a videogame is more willing to put in the effort for historical accuracy than a film nowadays
Mvemba a Nzinga
Gets triggered when Mormons don't show up to his front door.
I really don't care what Cleopatra is actually saying, it all sounds pretty damn good to me.
I like how Catherine makes her wine glass sing at 4:29
pause at 0:34
Ghandi likes nukes and nukes like Ghandi.
[Laughs in nuclear fission]
0:34 Nightmarish split-second shot of Gandhi and his nukes.
Harald is such a bro. Praising your navy and giving you advice if it's not up to spec
Some comments: Oh wow! Cleopatra is hot!
Me: Eh... she's... okay? Honestly, I could take it or leave it. Now Catherine the Great, Wu Zetian, Dido and Theodora in Civ 5 on the other hand...
kingkong381 Dido dude? Theodora and Catherine it's true
@@idontlikerome2744 How is dido not hot for you?
@@KlaussMarcellus Her backward language kills her attractiveness
That flash of the image of Ghandi with nukes brings back all the beautiful memories
***** Yeah, I guess x)
So Catherine de Mediciis speaks ancient Italian if you don't counterspy, but french if you counterspy?
Yo Goodfella XD
Yup is a nice little detail that firaxis added
0:34 Ah, Ghandi.. The most peaceful man in the wo-... Oh, what's that? He has nukes?!? Shit... Well all hail Ghandi then.
3:47 Victoria's hands clips through her jewels
I often get possitive Gorgo's reaction keeping my civilization at war with others. Almost each turn she says "you would make a good spartan" and stuff. XD
I've never seen GIlgamesh's one as he is always conquering everyone and I befriend him before he obliterates me. (?)
Tomyris has an invasive one for me, it triggers if you befriend her and you are not at war. She also says something about being peaceful and small civilizations, maybe you have to get a low score?
Cool video!
Wow 1 day ago....
Shots fired with the thumbnail there.
Thumbnail is 11/10
0:22 "Maybe it is better to put an end to your leadership"
_Launches nukes_
"And her loyal colonies" lol 3:58
Catherine actually says at 4:30:
Impressive! It seems that your spies are everywhere. My ladies-in-waiting would be delighted (for me) to accompany them during the party.
there is no shame in deterrent having weapon is very different from actually using it
"lol you're not using spies u scrub"
"... it's 3500BC"
When Queen Victoria said "loyal colonies," I unintentionally laughed.
George Washington : Look's at Victoria and Laughs
That second of Gandhi and Nuclear weapons brought me to tears. Well played man, well played.
3:19 funny how in my game america is also declaring war on that civ in the same time
Catherine of France: "You really should start paying attention to what's going on around you. There are games being played here on so many levels."
Well isn't that ironic to todays standards?
Bonus point for saying that in italian!
Eduardo Assimo Hahaah

See I had this trigger in the Ancient Era, long before I had counterspying, when all I did was expand a tile
0:34, Ghandi is back at it again...
I've never played Civ but I can appreciate good animation when I see it. And wowza, this animation is outstanding.
Oh shit now I remember, thanks to the thumbnail, they definitely took inspiration from the HBO's Rome Cleopatra, crazy ass nymphomaniac.
Of course Peter will like one who have scince and culture, he gets bonuses for it.
0:50 is that the new link design for legend of Zelda?
0:34 image of gandhi with an infinite supply of nukes
What Philip II is saying and what's writen in the subtitles are completely diferent phrases
I don't know why, but Tomyris is my favorite charachter.
They got the body language of the culture's so perfect! I'm not super sure about the others but for Gandhi his body language and even the emphasis on certain words is so spot on. I really appreciate it
