I’m not sure I’ve ever commented on this video, but this was one of the very first videos I found on UA-cam which made me realize when I was 14 that I could learn just about anything on the internet if I could ask the right questions. Thank you for sharing such succinct and such high quality work.
it was so satisfying when you cut the paper.
Nice work on the video and on the knife mate!
Stunning looking little knife which is even more impressive that it was your first attempt.
Cinematography just as cool as the knife you made. Good stuff
Clayton Sage Thanks!

Wow. That looks like an amazing knife and its your first one! I love the different layers of the handle. Great video
Thank you, the handle materiel is pretty interesting it it's own right. I'm making some more for a different knife and I'm trying some different paper.
this is exceptional for a first time making a knife! Definately subscribing! I would love to see more of your work
Thanks, I got more stuff planned!
Excellent video, and the knife is beautiful. I look forward to more of your knife projects.
Damn. 0:01 Nostalgia hit me right in the face. I think it might have been the first knife making video I saw. The journey has still just begun.
Nice job! Very well done and a beautiful knife. I hope that you keep making them.
Thank you! That means a lot coming from you, I'll definitely keep making them.
That makes me happy! You have the touch, I can tell :-)
SugarcreekForge Ha! I noticed we both made a replacement blade for a Kershaw, I did not use Damascus though.

you're doing it wrong! your first knife is supposed to suck!
reinout koenen DANG IT!
hahaha
for a first knife this is brilliant ! I could tell the difference between this and a professionals. Great work!
I'm amazed at how clean your bevels are for a first knife. It took me 5 or 6 before I got clean plunge lines and even bevels
not bad homey. Based 0-1 steel. I get my best results with that stuff.
Couple of things for next time. You don't need to draw file the already smooth, precision-ground surface of your 0-1 steel blank. That added 4 hours of work to the job.
You really, really wanna use a drill press for your rivet holes, you simply can't get a good perpendicular hole with a hand drill. You can build a drill press out of lumber, a few odds and ends, and your hand drill if you wanna keep it real.
Rather than using clamps to hold the scales on to the tang while you drill them out, you might appreciate what a little crazy glue can do. I use zap-a-gap and the zip kick accelerator to speed up dry time. You can pop off the scales by prying them lightly or giving them a good smack with a soft-headed mallet. You should definitely consider using epoxy on those scales. The stuff Aaron Gough uses is top-notch. West Systems epoxy.
I use the lansky kit too, most of the time. For forming the secondary bevel you should only use diamond. The grit stones hollow out too quickly, and diamond cuts much, much faster anyway, and works as well with water as with honing oil. The sapphire stone is definitely worth it. I made my own leather strop wheel by gluing 5 or 6 leather circles, 8" dia. worked for me. I used a light dimmer switch in parallel with a bench grinder to bring the RiPMs down to a reasonable speed.
And, since I'm throwing a bench grinder into the mix, you might as well pick up a scotch brite wheel for satin finishes, or sisal to flannel buff discs and a few compounds if you're into the mirror finish thing.
Try a cryo treat next time. It works really well with 0-1. Try some proprietary g-10 or micarta. The epoxy resin shit doesn't hold up so well IME. Get a really good respirator before you work with any synthetic handle material. If you get around to working with g-10, you might wanna just go full astronaut and get a painter's suit. Microscopic glass fibers will fuck you up.
So what are you making next, homey?
Ok since you have all this critique, i was like hmmm this guy knows what to do ao i go on your channel and nothing....dude id like to see you make a knife(im not insulting you) id think youd make some bombass knives
+Connor Zomer, Thanks! the stock was 5/32" thick.
Got a question, where did you get the steel from?
I think I put a link to the exact steel I purchased in the description.

+AxisOfSmeagol Thank you!
I've watched all kinds of diy video and this IMHO is one of the best, not only did you make an awesome knife but doing so with limited power tools is amazing. The O1 steel sounds wicked cool when you cut the paper:) I also think the scale choice was perfect the color is a very mellow earth tone. Excellent job brother.
Wow! good job. I think I'm going to get into this hobby. Looks fun. thanks for the video and keep up the great work!

Thank you!
Great job with the blade! Nice clean point, a very stylish, eye appealing handle and the razor sharp blade that we all love. I enjoyed watching the process!
***** Thank you! It's funny how minor changes in the blade shape affect the look of the blade, I re-drew the shape a dozen times before I landed on that one.
Seeing the start to end, the knife looked amazing! I'd love to own my own, looked awesome and seemed very sturdy
Nice job!!

Hard to believe it's your first knife. It looks great keep up the good work.
I have made other things before, being good with your hands really helps. I also watched a TON of youtube knife making videos. Thanks for the comment!
I knew you had seen gouff customs before you even mentioned it. I had recognised the tang of the blade, great work! Currently designing my second blade.
EpicWeaponries The tang? His knife tangs seem more blended and a rounder heel than mine.
