- This video tutorial was made kind of spur of the moment, but it has been quite helpful on the Singer Featherweight group on Facebook. Learn how to easily disassemble and reassemble the Singer Featherweight 221 and 222K Tension Unit.
This is outstanding! I am cleaning, and adjusting my grandmother's Featherweight. I was really stumped about the tension mechanism. This is p perfect! Thank you.
I can't tell you how happy I am to have found your website and your videos. I have my mother's Singer 221-1 and have been sewing on it for years but struggling with things like thread lock. Your video on that was an eye-opener for me and now I know it's been user error all along! I have been too intimidated to try to do any maintenance or repair on it myself, so have taken it to a couple of shops over the decades. I am so grateful to have your videos to help me do the work on it myself. You make it look so simple! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Fantastic tutorial! I didn't exactly think I knew it ALL, but I thought I knew way more than I did! I soaked this up like a sponge. Thank you!
I just bought a featherweight and both tensions seems to be off. So I'm very pleased you have put out these videos. Big help!
Thank you Carmen!! Your knowledge, explanation, detail and guidance is extremely appreciated! Thank you for saving me hours of frustration trying to figure it out myself. I truly appreciate you educating those of us who love our Featherweights.
Thank you so much for your great and informative videos! I really appreciate them!!!!!
I want to thank you for your tutorials!!! I bought a 1950 Featherweight and the tension dial was sticking, so I watched your tutorial on taking your tension apart and cleaning it. I DID IT!!! It works like a brand new machine. I am finding myself really enjoying taking my machine's apart, cleaning and oiling and putting them back together, and what really excites me is when everything comes beautifully! Once again, thank you for taking your time to show that anybody can do it if they just try! 🌷
Very well explaind.A thousand thanks to you buddy.
Thanks, I love having videos like this to check on when cleaning up things on machines.
Hey thank you so much I was so stuck with my top thread breaking all the time in two seconds I change the needle clean the shuttle but no avail finally I and that the entire tension knob and reset it after cleaning ,though it was not dirty. But it worked and the top threads didn’t break from the top thank you thank you all the best
This thorough video helped me so much. Thank you!
Thank You Carmen for the excellent video. I just bought a Featherweight last night and because I have others to compare to, I knew the tension dial was assembled incorrectly. Following your video, I disassembled and reassembled the tension assembly correctly. Now off to adjust the bobbin tension, etc. Thanks Again
Thank you so much for your work!! My featherweight 222k broke down a few weeks ago and I was SO sad. I found it in my grandma's garage almost ten years ago, and even if I have tried several modern sewing machines I always come back to this one. She is my pride and joy. Thanks to your video it's almost back to its champion self. Another or two more video of yours, a bit of love from my hands and she will be back on track again!
knowing that the +/- cap was open to the front would have been super helpful as the video is dark enough that it wasn't obvious and it took me a while to catch the other clues so I got it put on correctly. Otherwise a good video and I was able to disassemble, clean and reassemble successfully
I agree.
Well explained Thanks for sharing
Completely outstanding! You do a great job!
I did it. It’s the first thing I fixed on my non working machine. I need to see all of the videos to trouble shoot. I am looking on how to remove the bobbin and clean it next.
Very informative. Thanks!
Muchas gracias por este video, me ayudo mucho para arreglar mi maquina, ahora si cose, estoy feliz, mil gracias.
I did it! TY so much for this video!
I know that there is oil in the tension, so this is a no-no. It came this way, guess this is my next step. thanks for sharing. Reading a book and watching are so totally two different things. If they are like loosey -goosey plates, why is this happening? Take up lever up they are loose, then down and the tension is there? I have a good balanced stitch but the lose plates are really bugging me.
Thank you!!
My bolt has been turned by previous owner. How do I turn it horizontal? The tention is working great but it annoyies me terribly.
thank you for the help, my tension knob is way too tight, how can I loosen it?
Are the tension units of the Singer 221 and 301 the same? Can the the 301 be disassembled and reassembled just as you show in this video?
I have s brother P Q 1500. Need step by step assembly instructions
I don't have quiet tight when I put together. Your help would be greatly appreciated
