Great video as always, I would however make one correction as pertaining to SMART. By the way I hope you enjoyed your visit to our lovely North bay. The gauntlet track at the stations only exists at the Downtown Novato station and then all other stations north of it, the four stations south of it, Novato Hamilton, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, Larkspur do not have gauntlet tracks at the stations as no freight trains are permitted to operate south of the WYE at Highway 37 in Novato. It's a minor thing but I wanted to make sure you had the proper information, come back and visit us soon, I live in Novato and we always love friendly rail people visiting our town. Be Well.
I can't believe BART is running those old trains still. They've got to be well over 50 years old. I remember riding them into and out of San Francisco as a child. The last time being in 2001 or so.
These trains are Japanese designs and were built orginally to a specification for the airport trains for Toronto, Canada. They have nothing in common with the Alstom designs. However, they use the same Cummins Diesel, which Bombardier uses for its DMUs. They still comply with the old crash regulations from FRA. These were amended later to international standards, so now genuine European designs are allowed to operate on US tracks. That is why the EMU trains used on the upcoming electric service in the SF Bay area are more or less the European Stadler KISS units.
thank you for highlighting our lovely region and trains! SR here!
Look at all those DMUs... Great aerial footage!
That's some beautiful landscape there north of SF!
Neat you made it to my town! SMART is my home road.
Amazing!
Very nice. When I first saw BART trains I was impressed by their length.

They're gorgeous trains though, with padded seats and stuff!!
Glad to see this as I wanted to see the differences from the Florida passenger rail systems in California!
The 2-part DMU look like our German Alstom Coradia LINT 54. From which manufacturer are the ones you show?? Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven
