It is always a good day when Mad Ginger Customs posts a video. Your problem solving and fab skills are top notch, even if many of the problems are self inflicted.
Those shifters had their place back in the day, but there’s so many more sophisticated shifters now that that’s what I would go with. I understand it was a budget build.
Dave, great job on the manufacturing! The truck may be usable when done, we shall see if it's just another converted street rod in a truck body! Air shocks and maybe a little taller wheels or tires might just be what the doctor ordered to make Jess Happy again!
Might make you feel better realizing that even if you had used another method to drop the truck (shackles, hanger kit, etc), that pumpkin would still be in the exact same spot. No way that will change if the level of drop is the same. So all that work you did with the C-notches was not a waste of time (it’s really the way to go, and you did a solid job with it). Keep these vids coming!
I have to totally agree, having done a number of old trucks, it's worth the money to use a Lokar, they've worked out the bugs. Cheap just creates to many fab issues and wastes a lot of time. Hopefully Jess won't complain about the rattle, or you'll be replacing it in the end. Keep up the great videos, lot what you do.
Another great video, thanks for sharing. I got my daughters cat through with now going to look at a 1997 Jimmy a friend told me I could have if I want it. May be able to pull something off.
It might not be as good as you wanted but it did do what they said,😊 but you did great apart for the big hole 😂😅 thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Nice Dave!!! Those springs look like they are going negative arch! 😮 I had an Indy Matic in the Chevy back in the day. It was a pile too! Whoever installed it installed the linkage backwards so park was at the back. And a word of warning, since there is no reverse lockout, I have manual shifted and gone from 2nd to Reverse at 6K rpms. Not fun! Finaly splattered the 12-bolt doing some dumb stuff like that. See ya next week!!
I'm forever learning as a mechanic. I never knew a little sniff on the rear was part of the diagnostic process. Thank you for your teaching. I may even slap that pumpkin in the future for diagnostic purposes. I'm older than you (feels like by a lot) and air shocks were among the top five cool things in my day. I look forward to seeing how they will work for you in this application. One final question though....What about that big hole in the floor? Thank you.
Keep at it. I enjoy your projects and how you go about the reasons why you do your mods. Sometimes the SWMBO hasto be told to pipe down and get with the program. She Who Must Be Obayed She aint the boss in the shop, you are.
I had a 68 Ford F 100 all stock I put one of those shifters in but I had the shift pattern reversed , park was at the seat because I connected it to the factory bracket on the trans. Mine was a Hurst .
B&M cabel slap shifter is nice for guys who can work them . But for Jess i think a pistol grip an add a spring to pull the top to the right for rattle???.....😊
Please put the guard back on your death wheel. Its ok to take it off when using the oversized cheek poker (wire wheel) but jeez it just takes one lapse of muscle memory to bind that wheel up and have it explode on you.
don't know where you get your bits i get mine from a industrial supply kinda like fasenal they will drill thru a file thru a allen wrench and leaf springs aren't any problem either
I would probably send the shifter back if I was as disappointed as you seem , because as soon as you let on to your wife that you're not crazy about it , you'll be swapping it out . At least you got it working .
I am fairly sure that if you put your mind to it, you could make patterns from the kit and make it better... That way if you need something like it in the future you can whip one uo with no problem... Also, I bet if you think about it for a bit, you could easily makee your own cable shifter... You are smart enough, but would doing things like that make for good content? Probably not as much as what you are doing now, fans are fickle... I know I like the humorous way you present things, but I'm also 64 and these shows are how I spend my time now...
Univversal 3spd Shifter on My 29 Model A I Had to Get Brave Cut It & Weld it to Make Room for the Speedo Sensor. My Welding Skills are Marginal. Using Old Lincon Arc Welder Thats all I Got . I Don't Have A Lady That Helps Like Some Lucky Guy I Know!!!!!!!

I do it to myself!
Those shifters had their place back in the day, but there’s so many more sophisticated shifters now that that’s what I would go with. I understand it was a budget build.
Next time we will do it different!
It's a low budget build. You're doing great making things work. Keep up the good work.
the next video may be our biggest expenditure.
Dave i love what every you do for jess to make her happy
Let's hope she enjoys this truck!

I will patch that hole in the floor last!

I will have to get new spring packs or bag it at some point I think.
Dave a 76 Olds tilt column, with a flexible shift cable would have been a good idea. Just my 2-cents. 😊
Hmmm good thought!
Good job making it work!

We may just keep that hole in the floor at this point.
Keep at it. I enjoy your projects and how you go about the reasons why you do your mods.

She's the boss all time.....at least we let her think she is!
Dave the whole thing comes off it pry right off
Which part?
I think it's great 👍
Thanks!
Those wheels look awesome id paint them black and get rid of the blue
We plan on painting them.
@@madgingercustoms cool if you were to change the rear bumper to a sport bumper it would look great and not so low
Just take the time and work around problems! That’s what I have to do on my 55 Chevy! @ Jack’s Service Center!
When left with no choice you just have to make it work.
Excellent Video Dave :) yes that truck task to and have hard frustration one vehicle to do a costumer back years was big puzzle do at my job to!
Thanks!
Good point on shifter, go Lokar if you can.
May have to next time!
Lots of work, but it should be worth it.
Let's hope so!
I had a 68 Ford F 100 all stock I put one of those shifters in but I had the shift pattern reversed , park was at the seat because I connected it to the factory bracket on the trans. Mine was a Hurst .
Yeah, that would mess her all up!
B&M cabel slap shifter is nice for guys who can work them .

I should but its usually in the way and I throw it across the barn!
Genie shifter all day! The money you would have saved in time and aggravation would have been worth the extra money
Yeah that is the point of the video I suppose.
Gday sir!!
Did my comment get removed?? Lol 😂😂
Off topic, but I'm curious how your barn heater worked out?
Barn is really too drafty to have it work well. Maybe if I had 2.
don't know where you get your bits i get mine from a industrial supply kinda like fasenal they will drill thru a file thru a allen wrench and leaf springs aren't any problem either
I tried a bunch of different sets but I'm sure they are all standard bits.
Mate I can't believe you made a comment about banging on the bed and her crying about it!! 😂😂😂😂 1:35 😂😂😂
I would probably send the shifter back if I was as disappointed as you seem , because as soon as you let on to your wife that you're not crazy about it , you'll be swapping it out . At least you got it working .
That may happen at some point but we have a small budget to get this done and I spent a bunch of money on the steering and E rack set up!
I am fairly sure that if you put your mind to it, you could make patterns from the kit and make it better... I did think of making the entire shifter at one point but time is not on my side and we need this thing to move under its own power soon!
Just put a 2 inch body lift on it then your differential won’t hit the bottom of the bed. L O L!
LOL
My comment 🛻🛻🛻🛻🛻👍
appreciate it!
never did trust universal parts yes they can work be as you said what is your time worth.
Yeah I talk about that in a bunch of video but we never have the budget to get the good stuff!

She is supposed to be in every video working on this build......We see how that worked out.
You should have listened to jess in the first place after all its her truck 😡
You whine too much over nothing.
It's therapy for me.
