A separate trigger plays the IFV transform sound after Other3 House owns it; when it gets garrisoned. WW went through the effort of making this thing just for RA2Sov01, you'll never see it again. Be grateful :P 2:34 each of the trucks have a tag; that tag links them to a trigger each, which fires when the thing they're attached to dies. The trigger spawns a crate of sorts, and enables another trigger which fires when a unit occupies the same cell where the crate's spawn Waypoint is. That is how you get a specific crate, and SFX, text, radar event upon collection. 3:54 try hitting *G* next time. 6:40 Cruise ship costs 500, Conscript 100, Rhino Tank 900; haha, fat chance :P 7:25 this might still be the case, but it's possible even in RA2 1.006 to get reinforcements twice. Attack the Pentagon defenses (the Pillboxes on the hill, or the surrounding Patriot Missiles, or the GIs on the hill next to the Pentagon segments, or the flags behind the wall, or even the Pentagon segments themselves) to fire trigger Force Reinforcements 7 (which forces trigger Reinforcements 7), then move your units up between those two Pillboxes to fire trigger Reinforcements 7 normally. The reason that works is because WW forgot to disable Reinforcements 7 after it's forced to fire. At least, that'll be the case in the unpatched game; I still think WW patched that in 1.006 9:12 2 GIs are spawned per destroyed Pentagon segment only on medium and hard. Map mods: -standard resource-worth doubling and harvester-capacity halving. -All civilian units pose a threat with a value of 15; that way they get auto-targeted by your units. -Cop cars have AmbientSound=Dummy (presumably so you don't get too annoyed by the cop-siren) -General section modified; Prism Support is... oh wait, there is no Prism here x) ~CampaignMoneyDeltaEasy / Hard are set to +/-1500. -Soviet ConYard cannot be sold, Sight nerfed from 8 to 5. -Iwo Jima Memorial is garrisonable by one guy, is Immune, and will not show pips. -Iwo Jima and others use a flag called "ClearAllWeapons". I have no idea what that one does yet. -ParadDropSpecial recharges in 3 instead of 4min at 15FPS, so 1.5min at standard 30FPS. -Pentagon segments have less HP: Strength=180 instead of 600. -Conscript garrison weapon, SovietOccupyW, has one more cell for Range. -Sentry Gun' Primary, VulcanTower, has Range re-set to 5. -OilExplosions is much less harmful, even compared to RA2All12: damage spread only in 1.5 radius, 25% max damage at edge. -Soviet Engineer, SNEGINEER, got buffed: Speed=7 (originally 4); Sight=9 (originally 4). -Conscript, E2, got nerfed: 100HP, 25HP less, ArmoType=none instead of flak -Conscript got buffed: Sight=9 (vanilla is 5) and Speed=7 (vanilla is 4)
As I do have some mapping/scripting experience on RA2 myself, I do get most of these and the logic behind them. But as a long term COD4 fanmade mission coder and creator, I do get the passion behind studying and exploring the game mechanics and how-they-made something so I totally get the in depth take of this and I can provide such myself for Call of Duty games. Feels like reading a coworker's report on something.
@@ahmetsezginn In the map editor: the "Type of action" is Attack, parameter "Target" is "1 - not specified". That action makes them hunt anyhting and everything "posing a threat". Since all civilian stuff has ThreatPosed=15 they'll be hunted down. The two TeamTypes are spawned via trigger, and each TeamType has a Script assigned. Both scripts tell the Team to attack some general target after moving to a specific waypoint.
Maybe Westwood people back then loved the idea of turning Iwo Jima into a soviet statue? Or they tried really hard to make sure that did happen. Idk. But someone must have loved this moment so much.
Here's a nostalgic story for you. As a kid the Soviet Campaign gave me so much mystery and anticipation, as I only played until the 11th mission once, and then we lost the CD. I was stuck at playing the Allied Campaign over and over and I couldn't enter the Soviet campaign, which left me with mystery and nostalgia of having played it once and can't revisit it, thus missing the good old alternative campaign feeling it served. A number of years later, we got the CDs in virtual form which allowed me to replay through it, and it felt so good to be able to revisit all these lost heavens of Red Alert 2 Campaign. It just makes it so special and it has an important place in my gaming memories.

Here we go comrades, keep your rifle close to you and off to conquer America! Although this is the first Soviet campaign mission, I'd argue that it is one of the most memorable in the entire game. It sort of just... sets the tone of the campaign, showing you the chaos and destruction that awaits the Allies. Plus, no one can deny that running around a city while destroying and killing everything in your path is something unexpectedly fun.
@@XLParadise I'm talking specifically about base game RA2. YR's campaigns are, in my opinion, much more different and thought out than in the base game, so they shouldn't really be compared when talking about mission quality and memorability.
There are so many perfect queues in this first mission that sets up the mood for the Soviet Union. Their soldiers are ruthless murderers, in this mission they are fearless. The Conscripts are energized through adrenaline, it shows in their speed being increased higher than in other missions. They are sprinting at full speed toward their enemy and crushes them with ease. I wish the full campaign had this energy, though after a while it becomes clear that great responsibility requires great sacrifice.
Reminds me of World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. It might not be an RTS, but the story alone, and the human portrayal of at least two Soviet soldiers, is worth it.

There is a bug that let you bulid any structure outside your base, you can use it to bulid a sentry gun inside the Pentagon base to immediately complete the mission
I know this may seem unlikely and crazy but I actually did this mission with only 1 war miner. I found all the secrets and crates and used them all to upgrade the miner....OP Miner. Did more damage than a Rhino Tank

tbh Rhino is really good tank probably the best tier 1 tank in all factions. Apoc is not that good when it come to competitive play due to slow speed and expensive price
TechLevel shenanigans. I once said TechLevel has no relevance to the human player, beyond it dis-&allowing construction of stuff. That is only part of it. TechLevel is also used to sort the stuff's icons on the sidebar, and so are name, cost, etc. Since you're at TechLevel 1 here, and the Soviet barracks is at 2, for sorting, WW changed Barracks to TechLevel=1 so you could still build it. Instead of, you know, putting you at TechLevel 2 and using TechLevel=-1 to make everything they didn't want you to build unbuildable.
@Laura Allard You can build power, refineries, train Conscript, GI, Engineer, Sniper, buiid walls, miners, Sentry Guns and Pillboxes at TechLevel 1. Of course, you still need TechLevel 2 to access War Factory and Barracks.

I'm stuck in mission 1. I know you should get the option for barracks, but my game doesn't show that option at all :( It's been 20 years since I last played the single player missions. Ehm, one question, how do you get the game in widescreen ? Mine's stuck at 1024x768, even when I change the values in the RA2.INI file. I only remember it from the 1990s because my hometown was at least a decade behind the rest of the world, so they made us practices nuke drills. @tg - sacred Is it just me or did they modify infantry, especially engineers to be a lot faster than usual? Engineers can keep up with conscripts in this mission when usually they are slower than most infantry.

I feel Conscripts in Red Dawn Mission is so stronger then another missions.
They're actually weaker, with 25HP less and worse armor.
They're quite faster though.

Because this mission is so easy, I would sometimes use the Harvester to attack, managing to level it up to elite.
your conscrip can promote in this mission if you let one killed some civllians on this map.... he will grant some veteran point... if i remmenber correctly...
To be fair civies cost 10, so Conscript costs 10x more. You'll need to kill 31 civies with just one Conscript for veteran promotion.

It's been 20 years since I last played the single player missions. Ehm, one question, how do you get the game in widescreen ? Mine's stuck at 1024x768, even when I change the values in the RA2.INI file. I have the Steam version because the friggin' EA one doesn't start. At all. Thanks in advance.

i have met a bug long time ago. the MCV explodes without being attacked after it moving to deploy, then all Conscripts died , the mission failed.
That'd be the copyright/anti-piracy protection; after a few seconds everything the player owns get killed.

@@mjc0961 I think it's because not many people under 30 remember the whole duck and cover thing. I only remember it from the 1990s because my hometown was at least a decade behind the rest of the world, so they made us practices nuke drills. Except they called them "earthquake drills", despite living somewhere where earthquakes never happen.
