My favorite way of making a "blush and no eyeshadow" look cohesive is to actually use a bit of the blush in the middle of my eyelid. It just makes everything make a lot more sense!
The rhode lip balms are pretty famous for getting grainy! particularly the colored versions if memory serves. As far as I understand there isn’t actually anything wrong with it, like it hasn’t expired it’s just less pleasant to use. I think that whole controversy came up while you were on maternity leave so you might not have heard about it. I have the caramel flavor from the original drop and it hasn’t gotten grainy, and it sounds like some people have the graininess issue and some don’t, so I think it’s just something to do with the formulation. All this to say, it’s basically a featured bug and if you buy a replacement you might find that it also eventually becomes grainy or it might be totally fine!
Yes. I've heard this on countless videos from different creators I've watched. It's nothing you did; it's a thing with those lip balms. In fact, I just watched another video complaining about hers always being grainy (and that she emailed the brand when it frist launched and is surprised it hasn't been addressed yet) abbey yung's lip balm showdown is what I'm referring to ❤ Also, I completely agree: the finish of those rhode bkushes is special and gorgeous. I also love the merit, though when I'm wanting a more sheer, watercolor sort of look 😊 (plus, the nuianced, muted gorgeous shades)
My order of clear Rhode lip about a year ago arrived as grainy as a lip scrub, they were quick to refund upon reporting this but I didn’t want to try again. The Glazing Milk also made me break out sadly, wanted to love that one, too. Will just have to admire this company and products from afar as it’s clearly working for some, the blush looks great on you!
That caramel lip treatment is brilliant, so is the newest raspberry jelly tint. I have to say I'm impressed with the lip and blush products from Rhode. One of my Ole Henriksen Pout Preserves in Cocoa Creme did get a bit grainy.
My Rhode Krispy Kreme strawberry (limited edition) and Espresso lip balms were both grainy! The clear version I have in Watermelon is fine for now, but I’m definitely leery of purchasing another. I do love the Rhode Glazing Milk and the blushes: I have Freckle and Toasted Teddy, but Sleepy Girl is on my birthday wish list.
idkk i feel like a few of the creators i watch get caught up for one reason or another in more “involved videos”, and don’t get me wrong, they’re wonderful, but i always feel delighted when the more low-key hangout type videos are weaved into the rotation. all that is a long way to say, please don’t feel bad for the low-key videos, i adore them and find them really comforting to watch 🩷
This was lovely. Thank you for posting just a "hang out with me" video. I've found i feel calmer and more grounded when I watch your videos compared to most others on this app. Appreciate you!
Re: the Rhode lip goo -- I make my own cuticle/hand balm, and I find that shea butter tends to recrystalize into little firm bits with temperature changes (or maybe it just ... re-coalesces into shea blops over time?). Could be that! (BTW, my solution was to swap shea butter for mango seed butter, which doesn't seem to do that.) (And if you want to DIY your own, just microwave-melt a 1:1:1 ratio of beeswax, mango butter, and the type of coconut oil that's solid at room temp, then mix in any natural or synthetic fragrance oils if you like [NO WATER-BASED INGREDIENTS or you'll have to get into both emulsifiers and preservatives], stir, pour into your desired container while still hot. I like the little slidey-top metal tins, but you can use a cleaned-out empty container you've already got.)
Shea butter is notorious for going grainy. It has a lower melting point than waxes. If it’s melted with the rest of them as opposed to waiting until they cool a bit before adding the shea, it alters the structure of it and goes grainy when it comes back to room temp. It could be happening in production, storage or transport. The good news is while it’s annoying, at least they’re being generous with the Shea butter :)
It's so fun and relaxing to watch you put make up on, don't worry about it being "too boring". What's really interesting with these blushes is: on you this muted color looks perfect. On me it would look like dirt. While that color you described as a brighter berry color would still look a little muddy on me. I own a blush in a darker berry color that is brighter than this and still looks soft and muted on me but not TOO muted so that it looks "dirty". It's just creating the perfect amount of moodiness for my liking. If I was to match a blush to the level of brightness of my skin, I have to go for colors with little to no grey or brown added to them. They are rather hard to find nowadays, I think. And they will always look brighter in the pan/pot than on my skin. I just realized that when I bought a bright peachy orange cream blush, applied it to my cheeks and it really wasn't too light, but almost didn't show on my skin. When I formulate my own blushes, I really only add white and no black or brown to them, to create a color that works perfectly for me. Unless I want a more moody color, then I add a bit of brown and additional black, so it "dulls down" the color a bit. It's nice to see colors on different skintones. And I honestly love the way you do your make up. It matches you and your vibe perfectly imho.
you've just articulated something that i have had trouble putting my finger on. blushes that have brown or gray in them also look awful on me. i have light neutral skin and dark hair and eyes, so contrast is the name of the game for me. i have this huda stick blush that is very orange and it looks so good on me, even though i'm more of a "winter." i think it's the clarity!
not sure if this is something you would do but i would be really interested in a video about advice/recommendations for building your own palette of singles. like where do i get them from and how do i select the colours and stuff! i really want to create one palette of a bunch of singles with all the best colours but don't really know how to start
Off the top of my head Half Magic and Clionadh are two brands that make lovely single shadows that can be put into your own palette. I think HLP made a video a long time ago that was something along the lines of “Shopping My Stash and Building My Own Eyeshadow Palette” that you could watch. As for colors I’d recommend with just starting with a few and over time asking yourself questions like What shades am I missing that I’d actually wear? What finishes am I most attracted to? and building from there. The best part of single shadows is how customizable they are - you only buy exactly what you want - the downside is they can be quite expensive.
Most of my singles are from palettes but I took the pots out. stuck a magnet to the bottom with an additional dab of super glue. Also I learned today that even ColourPop has singles, there's a market for them and they're at every price point, budget to indie! Putting palettes together is tricky though, Pinterest is fantastic for pulling ideas, copying color stories of palettes to dupe the vibes. But figuring out what works for one's skin undertone can be tricky. Just when I think I know what works, I try something new and reconsider.
You've got a number of brands to look at: MAC, Sydney Grace, Clionadh (especially if you love duo/multichromes), Devinah, Lethal Cosmetics, Inglot, Glaminatrix, Looxi, Give Me Glow, Dandy Lions, to name a handful.
I have really enjoyed your no blush look lately; it's really lovely. However, you have the benefit of high contrast between your skin, hair and brows. I'm a redhead whose hair has gone cream with age...so pale skin, pale hair, pale brows...fading into the wall like the cheshire cat! For me, blush is life and that Merit Fox is lovely. My favorites remain Nudestix. Happy Thanksgiving!
I’ve heard all the rhode lippies get grainy. Also watch out for your ami cole lip oil - I went to buy it on your recommendation and lots of reviews were talking about mold or the oils going off!
I couldn't help but immediately hear gene belcher of Bob's Burger's "this is me now!" 😂 I knew you'd come back to blush, just like I know you'll circle back to oil slick eyes. I know because in my nearly 48 yrs (36 of those loving cosmetics/beauty) that my tastes are cyclical. What I adore today (cool toned neutral mattes & a sheer wash of sparkle with brown mascara & lip balm) will tomorrow turn back to my love of colorful blended avant-garde looks with graphic liner & heavy blush/highlight! It never fails. Thanks for the content amidst your crunch time!
I used to work on a sales team where the last few months of the year were the busiest and most important. That stress is long behind me but I do remember the great feeling of accomplishment in January. Good luck getting through the next few weeks/months. Also I just bought the OleHenriksen peptide lip treatment in the color Cocoa Creme. highly recommend.
blush is going out it had its hayday but I never really got the blush craze on me personally bc I have so much redness on my cheek from acne /acne scarring. still love blcuh on others I think now in winter I can imagine a really pale complexion with a touch of redness on the cheeks and nd lips would look really cute
Omg same, I have a bit of rosacea on my left cheek and sometimes it looks like my blush is all over my cheek, lol. I like peachy shades the most or just a wash of shiny liquid blush. Otherwise I look like stuck in the 80s. 😂
Accidentally applied a lot more blush than I was planning on today (phytosurgence condensate, love it with my fingers, tried it with a brush, applied beautifully but picked up more than I’d realized). So this was fun. Twins. Lol
Would love you to post a video talking about colour!! Not exactly sure what but I’m always amazed to hear how you describe them and see the difference between product colours
Haven't tried it myself, but I've heard quite a few complaints online about the Rhodes lip product being initially, or later becoming, grainy. Labmuffinbeautyscience did a short video about why it happens (the shea butter) and what you can do.
I needed this last week with you and the Exa. I finally caved and decided to go for a green corrector and I hadn’t seen you with Exa for a bit… so I went the easy route and picked up Elf. It’s not terrible, but it is Elf which just isn’t something that does well on my skin. This Exa looks like a much better option 😂
I feel that blush makes everyone's face looks shorter & chubbier, no matter where it's placed. I really like the look of "skin", and I feel that blush takes away from that. But I appreciate the dimensionality that blush adds to most faces.
I’ve never had a “not that into blush” moment in my life 😂. Or at least since my early 20s (I’m 39 now). I’ve come such a long way from those Benefit box blushes. In fact, I just ordered a KJH blush stick! After much inner turmoil I chose Soft Berry, and I got the glossy serum thing too because her videos demonstrating mixing the gloss with the blush were very compelling.
I am considering Merit Fox, and Rhode Sleepy Girl. I like the subtlety - I absolutely cannot resist mauve. I am also way into K Beauty milky toners these days - inexpensive and soooo delightfully hydrating (why does the ILIA cost so much?).😩
@@masu_masuI’ve only tried Rhode, and I found the Rhode to be drying and irritating - it made me break out. The K Beauty toners I’ve tried are just so much better. The Celimax Dual Barrier Toner, the Make p:rem Safe Me Essence Toner, and the Dr. Ceuracle Kombucha Essence are all more deeply hydrating and calming. I like the I’m From Rice Toner, too, but don’t find it as hydrating as the other three. My skin is combo/oily and dehydrated, so I’m looking for deep, effective hydration that doesn’t feel heavy.
About the Rhode balm: it’s happened to me twice now! I live in a 4 season climate and notice it going grainy in colder temps. I learned a hack to take hot water and place the balm in there for a few minutes. It warms up the formula enough for the graininess to go away, but I def don’t think I’ll reorder. MAJOR bummer because I loved this balm before this happened!
Interesting! I literally just watched a dedicated lip balm showdown video from Abbey Yung and she said the exact same thing about the Rhode lip balm turning grainy. She also loves everything about it but has this persistent issue with the graininess. So definitely nothing you’ve done but seems like their issue with the formula
I bought the Merit blush set not long ago in order to try the blush formula, and I love Bespoke and Mood. (Moreso the combo of both - Bespoke as a "base layer", if you will, and then Mood concentrated on the apples for a little pop.)
I haven't tried the lip balms yet, but I do hear they get grainy by a lot of people. As someone that has many trial and error lip balm attempts, I suspect it is the shea butter. If you don't properlqy ice bath something with shea butter in it, it will eventually bead up. I've also gotten grains from using honey as an ingredient. Not sure if it is the issue, but if it is, it's not harmful. You just have to melt the grains with your body heat by smooshing your lips together. Some people find it too annoying to repurchase but you can probably use up what you have at least.
I saw a video on instagram where a cosmetic chemist explained what is happening with the Rhode balms. Basically this formula should be in a pot because the frequent squeezing is what causes the graininess to form over time. It’s a matter of wrong formula for the applicator. Super interesting!
My Rhode peptide lip treatment was grainy when I got it. I heated to a mug of water and let it sit in there until it reconstituted. It has never become grainy again. It’s some sort of wax or ingredient that comes out of solution, but warming it up helps it incorporate back in. And I only ever had to do that one time.
Really interested in the Refy concealer but dreading the inevitable color match process. Exa green color corrector is amazing and no color match needed!!!
The reason the Rhode lip balm gets grainy at times is because it has Shea butter in it and along with it several other similar natural butters that in colder temperatures often becomes a little grainy. There is nothing wrong with it but it will be like that during colder times probably. You know that is what it is if you take some between your fingers and warm it up. It will eventually make most of the little grains melt into oil.
Rhode blushes were just to greasy for me. Felt like crisco on my skin. Merit gives me more of that glossy soooo smoothing that my mature cheeks need!!! But I will say Rhode customer service was EXCELLENT and they do care about making their customers happy.
My Rhode lip balm was grainy. I just popped it in a mug of hot water, massaged the tube a little bit, and that ingredient reincorporated. I haven’t had to do it again and it’s been almost a year.
The Rhode lip balms famously get grainy when the formula gets cold-try not to store it anywhere cold (like a car) and warm it between your hands or fingers before using!
Mmm ... for a Nivea o Vaseline lip balm it´s ok to consider that, now ... for a 20 - 30$ Lip Balm with such a Brand??? Warm up, really? No, I don´t think so
Hi Hannah, I’ve been following your quest to find a Gone Greige dupe with great interest and I think I might have found something. I have a similar pale neutral skin tone (all your shade recommendations work perfectly for me) and have similar lipstick colour preferences. I’ve found the Kiko Smart Fusion lipstick (black square packaging) in 436 Cold Brown looks very similar, but with a slightly sheerer formula like the Glossier Ultralips. I’m wondering if it could be a good match?? ❤
I feel the end of the year UA-cam scramble so bad. I was trying to explain to my husband (who has no hand in my UA-cam channel) how busy it is and I just don’t think anyone who doesn’t do this work could understand. Especially, with the sponsors.
Grabbed my Espresso Rhode peptide lip tint, and while this shade in particular hasn't been gritty, I have noticed it with the shade "Toast." Others have complained about the grittiness, but for some reason it's hit or miss. I've never noticed it with the non-tinted lip treatments.
Hannah, put your Rhode lippies in a mug of hot water as you have a mug of tea yourself. Let them sit there in their own hot tub for about 10 mins. Shake it up, give it a little massage, good as new!
Yeah, the Rhode gets grainy. Mine arrived grainy. I heard that the waxes or oils are clumping and there's nothing actually wrong. If I warm up the tube before putting it on, the grains are less present.
I have seen a lot of mixed reviews of the Rhode lip balms. Some people love them, and some say they are grainy and weird. Unfortunately, the company has been having this issue with inconsistency for years and hasn't done anything to fix it.
Thank you for the information regarding the Ilia and Merit products. I just purchased the Ilia and am trying to figure out if I should put it on before or after my sunscreen. I also put it on twice yesterday, right out of the shower, then right before makeup after sunscreen because my skin is starting to do it's winter dryness thing.
Sadly, I cannot comment on the rhode lip treatment as I have never had it. But I have been re-watching a boatload of old HLP videos and realize I really miss a product empties video. Am I the only one out there?
I think the lipgloss getting grainy has to do with temperature. Mine goes that way some days and then somehow it is miraculously fixed later. I also have experienced it more with my Expresso one and not the clear one.
@@HannahLouisePoston It's OK. Thank you,. I am so sorry to put more on you in this hectic time. But please let us know if you find out anything, or when it gets fixed.
The Rhode lip balm has had issues going grainy for over a year. From what I've heard they haven't fixed it. Have you tried the Naturium lip balm? I love it and I know they have a few brown colours.
Legit question (no snark) - I don’t understand the concept of putting on green color corrector and then a ton of blush. What am I missing? Is it a placement thing?
Think of it like painting with lots of layers. You want your base layer to be nice and even - Hannah struggles with redness so she cancels it out by using green color corrector. She can then go on top of that with a color product like blush and have a more uniform/less patchy look overall. Which I imagine is very nice when you’re working with a formula like the Merit blushes which are quite watercolor-y (slightly transparent). It’s also like you said about placement. You might want your cheeks to be pink but not the rest of your face. Also the green color corrector is doing more than that - it’s also concealing blemishes which a blush just can’t do so that’s why you might use it underneath as well. Hope that helps answer your question!
You look so pretty with that blush. I guess the answer is trial and error, but how do you decide what concealers and color correctors to put where? I have one drugstore concealer that I use under my eyes. My mom gave it to me and I'm not even sure if it's the right shade.
I had the same grainy issue straight out of the box not with any of the tints but with 3 colorless lip treatments (watermelon, salted caramel, and unscented). Frustrating part is, i contacted customer service about it and they never got back to me. I was certainly wanting to send the 3 grainy ones back because i really cant with the texture but i couldn't even get someone from their team to get back to me. Has anybody gotten customer service to speak on this? Does anybody know how to melt or dissolve the grains? Super annoying issue for an otherwise lovely formula
Put it in a cup of very hot water to melt it and then put in the freezer to cool quickly. It's the slow temperature change that creates the grains IME.
My favorite way of making a "blush and no eyeshadow" look cohesive is to actually use a bit of the blush in the middle of my eyelid. It just makes everything make a lot more sense!
I love doing this. Especially with the glossier cloud paints and cream blushes in general.
This is how I always do my to go work makeup.
Same
I've been mentally putting blush on you for months though you always still looked glowingly flawless.

HLP EXTREME BLUSH LOOKS I AM SO HYPE
The grainy feeling is felt by others too!!! Im not buying because i cant tolerate that
Your look has been so elegant & understated lately. Really beautiful.
Abbey Young just did a video on 55 lip balms and mentioned multiple times that over the months she was testing products several of them became grainy.
It's the jojoba oil. When it get cold, it gets grainy. Many have talked about this but you can warm it up and it will go back to normal.
My Rhode lip balm was also grainy. I put it in a glass of hot water for about 10 minutes, massaged the tube a bit, and then it was better.
WOW great tip

I love these pearl drop earrings!
Merit Bespoke is also a close match to Salt NY Cocoa, my all time #1. fun to know about sleepy girl as another color but a diff finish. Magic!

I ordered two of the Rhode lip treatments, a clear, and this brown one. The clear is completely fine, but the brown is super grainy.
That’s really odd because my brown is fine and the clear is grainy 😅
all I can see is that montage of Gene Belcher from Bob's Burgers going " *THIS IS ME NOW* " with him in different looks 🤣 relatable
Omg I just commented something super similar! Hello fellow Bob's fan! ੭😃੭
I’m watching bobs burgers right now 😂

That’s the only reason I haven’t bought the ami cole one!
I think the last one was decluttered because it had went off
Do not forget to spend some time taking extra special care of yourself as you do your work to avoid burnout ❤❤
You might like the RMS blushes. They have highlighter built in so you don’t need to blend your highlighter and blush.

It is good to see you often.
Great job.
Learned some good makeup tips on this one.
I absolutely love your nails. And i enjoyed this video. Thank you. I am looking forward to your holiday content.
Hi Hannah. I would love content focused on your fav brown-based blushes.
I've been driving traffic to websites for 10 years. Every Nov amd Dec is buckle down season. I totally get it. Power through it will be worth it ❤

TY, TY for the Credo discount code. I passed up on their sale in October this year and am totally kicking myself for it.

I haven’t tried the Rhode peptide lip treatment, one of the reasons being that I’ve heard lots of people commenting that they start to feel grainy
Yesssss blush 😊... love me some blush. On another topic can we all agree that Hannah needs to show us her nail takes for the season?
This is not boring!
I dont have the rhode lip balms, but I think shea butter has a tendency to crystalize. My jack black lip balm also has shea and it went grainy too.
Don’t mind me. Just leaving a comment for the algorithm
Love that you're "fixin to" do your blush. Makes me homesick.
Your nails are giving❤
Oh my goodness I feel so spoiled right now. I’m so happy to see you.
The Lipstick Lesbians made a post awhile back about why the rhode product gets grainy- it’s a formula issue
Haven't tried it myself, but I've heard quite a few complaints online about the Rhodes lip product being initially, or later becoming, grainy.
Labmuffinbeautyscience did a short video about why it happens (the shea butter) and what you can do.
Came here to say this ❤
Beautiful nails 💅
No mascara weekends: love it! Elegant caszzz lol Best of luck to you and fam for the rest of the year 🌺☮🎄
Always happy for a little check in. 🥰
The westman atelier blush in garçon is very much a pink brown color . ❤❤❤The formula is perfect.
Yes, I noticed my Rhode was grainy within the first couple of uses and Sabrina at The Beauty Look Book has mentioned the same thing.
This is a gorgeous lewk 💜💜💜
The grainy thing is notorious in that balm. ❤
I feel that blush makes everyone's face looks shorter & chubbier, no matter where it's placed. I really like the look of "skin", and I feel that blush takes away from that. But I appreciate the dimensionality that blush adds to most faces.
I like to make my face look chubbier with blush !
I am also way into K Beauty milky toners these days - inexpensive and soooo delightfully hydrating (why does the ILIA cost so much?).😩
What are your favorite K beauty milky toners? Any almost-dupes that come close to Rhode or Ilia versions?
I think when you really achieve a skin finish you love it becomes a bit unnecessary to add blush. Ditto mascara.

I love the new HaruHaru Wonder milky barrier essence better than the Ilia and I love the ilia lol it’s not as greasy looking 🤣🤍🤍🤍
the shade espresso is notorious for being grainy! mine was grainy from the start. such a gorgeous shade, but the formula is so finnicky
Almost every time I've seen you in the last year i have thought to myself that the days of "how much blush is too much blush" is definitely over. 😂
Merit “Fox” and “Bespoke” - **chef’s kiss** 🤎
Don’t do blush myself - or highlighter or bronzer - if I put make up on I want the colour on my face to be uniform - idk why lol
Ahh that might be why I’ve never had that happen with mine! I only use the clear ones. Good to know.
Have u tried eadem lip balm in boba bounce? That one looks right up ur alley…I love it
Yep, the Rhode Lip Tint gets grainy. Abbey Yung was just talking about it in yesterday's lip balms video. It's been an issue for awhile.
My rhode lip balms turned so quickly for me. They became grainy and I had an awful reaction. Won’t repurchase.
My rhode lip balm was grainy right away as well.
🌸 My Rhode lip tint in espresso is smooth so far, but it’s relatively new… 🤨
I have seen a lot of mixed reviews of the Rhode lip balms. Some people love them, and some say they are grainy and weird. Unfortunately, the company has been having this issue with inconsistency for years and hasn't done anything to fix it.
My skin eats all the Merit blush pigments. It’s gone in like 3hours. But at least I’ll use my one Merit blush very quickly.
I have heard the grainy issue a lot with the rhode balms. Reason why I never got them.
Mine was grainy out of the box!
Can you swatch bespoke next to salt new york cocoa?
I had the same thought! Cocoa is my fav blush ever 🤌
rhode vs summer fridays lippie? color / formula feedback
summer fridays is smoother and thicker. Rhode is the perfect color
I think the lipgloss getting grainy has to do with temperature. Mine goes that way some days and then somehow it is miraculously fixed later. I also have experienced it more with my Expresso one and not the clear one.
p.s. I do not use lip plumper or anything but this. It just seems to happen
I'm loving this video, and hope this isn't rude, but I couldn't use the Credo code. Is there any kind of restriction on it?
no, there is something wrong! I sent them a message
@@HannahLouisePoston It's OK. Thank you,. I am so sorry to put more on you in this hectic time. But please let us know if you find out anything, or when it gets fixed.
Back, back, back again 🎉
I'm not a blush girl. Every time I try it, I regret it.
Hope that helps answer your question!
for me it's a placement thing, yes! The redness I want to conceal is mostly on my chin and around my mouth.
You look so pretty with that blush. I guess the answer is trial and error, but how do you decide what concealers and color correctors to put where? I have one drugstore concealer that I use under my eyes. My mom gave it to me and I'm not even sure if it's the right shade.
It could just be that the balm has waxes in it that just crystallized over time. Do the grains melt on the lips?
