Thank goodness you guys are safe, I had a little bit of damage down here on the east coast, and was out of power for 3 days, but I got my power back on and now I can watch my dude get back into the swing of things with a new racquet. Was nice to see how much Shamir's improved over the past couple of years! He seems to enjoying the journey too, which bodes well for his coming years of tennis
I love this pair, Nico and Shamir. You can tell that Nico enjoys coaching Shamir. Shamir is so receptive, and makes an effort to follow Nico's instruction. They have a great time together, and that makes us enjoy it. Nico made a very important point about exhaustion. As an older player, I used the Wilson ProStaff 6.1 for many years in my 30s, but after 40, i noticed that after a couple of sets with the heavy racquet, I was too fatigued to continue making decent shots. In the beginning the "plow through" offered by the heavier racquet was perfect, feeling that the racquet contributed to my stroke. But after a while, exhaustion set in. I would suggest to Shamir to really try to get used to the Percept 97, 310 grams. He'll be surprised how fresh he'll feel, even after a couple of sets. Great video, Nico. Keep up the excellent work. And please don't give permission to Shamir to play pickleball. 😂😂😂
I used heavy rackets and thought that I would never like lighter rackets. Eventually changed to the HEAD Speed and tried the MP which is 300 grams and never looked back. The racket itself is already more comfortable then my oldest racket, but being lighter just helped me a lot.
I thought it was me..but I tested a few racquets and the moment I used head speed I felt so much control in hand I think it's the reason that I upped my level with maybe 50%. Still want to try the extreme though..
If Shamir wants to go in between the the 97 and the 97H, just add some weight and make the specs somewhere t in between since they are same layup and same string pattern. The 97 is pretty good and stable in stock form, but it's also a good platform racket.
I like the fact that Nick has so much class that he does not want to influence Shamir's choices but from an outsider, I can really tell that the racquet more maneuverable would do him so much better. (the 100") He can now swing faster, he can reach defensive shots..hit his backhand, all he has to train is to put a bit more body/effort into his forehand shots which is much easier than swing a heavier racquet on your one hand backhand.
Shamir has improved so much! I think he should work on his backhand transfer of weight next. What I feel helped me the most was drop feeding using my backhand against a wall, trying to hit the most power possible. Heel-toe transfer, leg extension and hip rotation, non-dominant hand holding the racket longer, those are all elements that can help the one-handed backhand a lot!
One of the benefits of the 97H is the high SW (over 330), compared to the other Percepts, especially for the one handed backhand. Most high level players go for a high static weight to control heavy balls. The downside is it gives you nothing when you are tired and start cheating with the foot work. Perhaps Shamir could experiment with adding lead on the regular 97 - or the 100D - as these frames come with a much lower SW in stock form (under 320)? When choosing a racket I've come to the conclusion that emphasizing the quality of the serve and return of serve are the key factors to consider. The issue for me at least, is that it's not always the rackets that most enjoy playing with, that are the ones that perform best on these two metrics.
I used T Fight 315 (16x19) for 7yrs and after demoing several rackets I've bought TenX Xcalibre 315 16x19 with an extended handle. It has brought a lot of consistency and precision on my forehand, but somehow, my backhand was going weaker. Serve was insanely accurate, altough my wrist started hurting from it. Then I came across rackets of F Krajinovic (both perfectly calibrated at 313.7g unstrung). It's been painted as Blade V8 with no specs on it. Not really sure if it's Blade, nor if it's Wilson at all. Looks little more shiny than a retail one. That one felt so perfect on my backhand adding a lot of stability, but forehand was less grippy, maybe because of a denser pattern 18x20. Over the next several months I made it work and won't let it go for anything in the world. Serve is more difficult than with others I've mention, especially kick serve. Still experimenting with strings and tensions.
I used the 97H for a while, but when I used the regular 97 I found its amazing feel, stability, plow through, etc was retained!! But in a lighter and easier to use package. One of the best racquets I've ever tried!!
My game is very similar to Shamirs. I have used a head boom pro, percept 97, prestige pro and realized that i was not doing myself any favors. Gteat for rallying and maybe 1 set. After that the weight effected every aspect of my game especially my ohbh. I switched to vcore 98 with a 1.30 poly at 48lbs. Gives me the right amount of help, power and high margin, the weight makes me able to go all the way in a match without getting tired. My game instantly got better. He is doing himself a diservice not testing the vcore 98.
Sounds eerily similar to me. One handed backhand player that psyched myself into thinking I needed to play with a leaded up vcore pro 97 / vcore 95. Also recently switched to a vcore 98 and haven't looked back.
He played thr best with 100 … easy depth , easy spin , fotgiving and easy to swing . And they didn’t try 100D which is arguably better than the 100 with a 18x19 patten , the best of both worlds
I played with both the Precept 97 and 97H I started off with the H but switched to the 97 with a little weight at 10 & 2 and the racket worked out better for me. Hard choice because of the plow thru of the H but with the added weight on the 97 it was very similar to the H with a little less weight.
Why not demo the 97 with a little lead / tungsten tape? It makes quite a bit of a difference with just like 2-5g on the head and you have 20g to play with before you get to the H weight. I felt when I added 3g right up by 1 and 11 and 4g at the handle it made the racket quite a bit better without the added mass of the H. You can always remove the lead tape before you turn them back in.
Shamir could also experiment with adding weight. Like maybe a leather grip and a few grams at 12 on the 97 to weight it up just a bit but still not as much as the H. 100D Maybe worth trying too, I know he said he doesn't care for dense string patterns but a weighted up 100D might prove to be the best of both worlds. Control, power, and easier to play under exhaustion.
Static weight of the 330 plus 18 strings and 4 overgrip and maybe 4 dampener requires a monster of an arm to handle the 355 gramms. Otherwise second set onward will be a nightmare…You guys did not consider any customisation. The 100 with 3plus 3 gr on 3 and 9 and 5 on the handle will stabilize immensly the head and add some more solid power and weight of shot.
I hope Shamir actually goes and plays matches with the 97. You can't really compare practice to the exhaustion of a hard-fought match and he might notice the true benefits in those tough moments when the match is on the line.
Nic was very patiently showing Shamir the great weakness of the heavier racquet. While it was better for his fh and serve and created a heavier ball, it got more difficult to use as Shamir got tired. I'd also argue that with the 97 and 100, Shamir's movement to the ball within the randomness of a point was much, much better. And then Nic subtly raised the question of how much power is Shamir actually giving up if he switches to a 310g racquet? Probably not much.
You should measure swingweight on 97H and 97. 97 should have lower swingweight so IMO Shamir should customize 97, add 4-5g to the hoop and then test it again. This will give plenty of power to his serve and forehand but still will be pretty light for his backhand. 97H is prolly like 330ish SW and 97 315-320 SW. I would add 4g at 12 to gain more power and then test it out with 97H.
I loved this. You are a brilliant coach and Shamir is the best. What a great guy. Loved how you put him through all the proper tests to figure out his racquet specs. Should one pick a racquet to aid in stopping the exploit of a weakness (1HBH) or go with a racquet that only helps your strengths (Serve / Forehand)?
@@IntuitiveTennis to the above point, it's not just about enhancing strength or minimizing weakness. it's also about the amount gained. the 330g was better on the fh and serve, but by how much and does it actually meaningfully affect performance?
To win more matches and learn more on how to make points: 100 or 97. Clear to see in movement, length…; But of course one cannot force someone and it has to be fun.
It's so difficult to pick up the best racket out of 4 in one hitting sesh. Especially if one of them has been a racket of choice for a while and rackets are quite similar in feel, balance, flex etc. I would just grab 97D, 97 and 100 reg and/or D, string them exact same way and keep hitting for a week or for as long as the store allows demoing. Then pick one of 3/4 rackets for another demo and compare to my current racket of choice in more details.
He didn’t demo the 100D? Defo one to try as well than just the 100 👍The 97D needs to be strung at 46lbs. I would hazard a guess that it’s above that. Muscle memory is going to play its part here so he’ll favour the 97H. Just from watching him in this video and others, he needs to increase his intensity as it does seem he plays very relaxed almost as if it’s a warmup. It’s great that’s he’s trying different rackets in the range and you’ve got him to at least try them. In the first few minutes, I think the standard 97 might suit him better, as it allows him to generate more RHS and maintain it during a 3-set match, and he can customise it with lead if he needs more power. Just my two pennies worth 👍
Enjoy Shamir episodes and I like your methodology for comparing various racquets. Personally, I find light racquets too easily bullied by hard hitters-I always need to add weight until it starts becoming sluggish.
wondering how many hours of practice Shamir has put in to make the serve kind of superior to all his other shots? Kick, slice, flat on command....nice Shamir. 👍Congrats. Nick, can you please make a video, if not already there, on how to practice service best during the winter for next spring season? exercises, frequency of just training serve aso. Thank You.
Good idea Nick! Unfortunately I didn’t get the impression that Shamir was really understanding the process of testing different racquets. He never said anything about how each racquet was feeling or if he was drawn to one racquet or another. He also said that the practice told him that he could play with any of the racquets… seemed like he wasn’t trying to feel a difference or he just couldn’t tell the difference. It’s a good idea but maybe the wrong student. I’m sure Shamir will stay with his original racquet. Shamir, swing more aggressively on both sides, it’s just practice :)
Bigger racket head size are typically stiffer. That's how they get some power from the decreased weight. Unless you go with something like a Gravity Pro.
The pace was so slow, that Shamir could handle his 97H. In a faster pace, against a big hitting opponent, he would late a lot of balls. Would not be able to manipulate the ball in the last moment. And his handspeed looks slow on his forehand, with a stiff wrist, that's why his heavier racquet helps him. He hits with the same slow handspeed with the lighter racquets, but he should hit with faster hand. He sould try to hit more lose wrist, fast forehands, than he would hit much bigger with the lighter ones. Great video otherwise :)
Yes, and how would he do with the H on day 3 of a weekend tournament in 100 degree heat, he wouldn't make it taht deep, probably tire out in day 2 playing 2 matches in the same day.
Nick or anyone, on kick serves , while testing the 100D, Percept 97D and the H my serve would hit the fence on the second bounce after going in, I'm tall at 6'4" and getting good kick, but with the H the ball would stick into the fence more than the others , very often , indicating more grippy kick spin. My only conclusion was SW is most impactful for kick serves/spin?
Nice video. Can’t stand the vapor 11. Prefer the gp challenge 1 instead. Think Shamir should try lighter and 100sq versions of racquets as others said. Have Percept 100 but too spinny and little plow. Ezone 100 is nice and gives a bit more. Going to demo the vcore 100 soon!
The 100 would just have a wider string pattern because a larger head size giving him a lot more free power. I think the larger sweet spot from the larger head size gives his backhand more grace on contact point and allows him to hit cleaner, more powerful shots because of it. The 100 was too powerful for me, I too am a 97h user.
Cool stuff, @Samir try the 97 310g with 2-3g lead tape at 12? The regular 97 has acording to TW 315 Sw and the 97H 333 Sw. 18 points difference between this two Rackets.
Call me crazy but Shamir should proceed with 97. Played overall the best. And if he enjoys weight of H he should add a little manually to the 97. If he can improve the backhand using it and adjust his swing on forehand and serve. If he plays a ten shot rally followed by another one in a regular game he'll get broken because the H's weight will take it's toll. Shamir like the rest of us sounds like an average rec player, one that gets injured or ill regularly throughout the year so I dont see the chances of him conditioning to the weight of H.
Seems to me his forehand was deeper with the 100. One thing I struggle with switching from Vcore pro 100 to 97 is volley's hitting with the frame. 100 is easier for volley's I think.
Agassi and Graf were spotted playing with the Percept 100D in the US and during and exibition in Romania. During the US Open, yes, Agassi was using a Prince. We don't know for sure which one they will stick with...
@@jayp123 You say that, but does he? We can't see him in a tournament situation here, the Saturday would have him play 2 matches , so in hour 4 of singles that day, the second match, will he be handling it well? When it's summer? I'm built more like Nick, almost exactly, without the injury history and that is too heavy for me, Shamir is a tiny guy

How old is Shamir….? In case of his physics. He moves good… When he plays 2 weeks with the 100 and the right string and tension, he will become a better player….I promise that…
Why not playing with some lead?Get the 97 310 or 100 and add some lead. He definitely played better with 97H, but i worry his stamina won't allow him to play with it for some sets...😅
shamir is almost always hitting the backhand not properly leaning forward with his body, he would get so much power and control if he did that, better on the forehand for sure

Shamir has improved so much! I think he should work on his backhand transfer of weight next.
Against a big hitting opponent, he wouldn't be with either Percept 97. 😂
@@marcelobarros5729 well, ok, haha, yes, there is always someone "better"
@@marcelobarros5729😂
String type and tension are also important
Is this at a club/resort or your private court? Looks neat!
Were the strings and tension mentioned? I’m a third of the way in it hasnt yet...
HOw much is one hour with you Nick?
Nick or anyone, on kick serves , while testing the 100D, Percept 97D and the H my serve would hit the fence on the second bounce after going in, I'm tall at 6'4" and getting good kick, but with the H the ball would stick into the fence more than the others , very often , indicating more grippy kick spin. My only conclusion was SW is most impactful for kick serves/spin?
More swing weight more power if you are able to accelerate
@@IntuitiveTennis thanks for the reply, keep making great tennis content!
Yep. Make the regular 97 around 323-325 SW.
I would like to understand...how you can choose the right racquet for your player??or by testing many demos..thanks
Player has to choose, I can only give advice
I use the Yonex Vcore Pro 100L....with weight added...was debating a heavier and smaller stick, but not sure.
Are you playing in florida?
Call me crazy but Shamir should proceed with 97. Played overall the best. And if he enjoys weight of H he should add a little manually to the 97. If he can improve the backhand using it and adjust his swing on forehand and serve. If he plays a ten shot rally followed by another one in a regular game he'll get broken because the H's weight will take it's toll. Shamir like the rest of us sounds like an average rec player, one that gets injured or ill regularly throughout the year so I dont see the chances of him conditioning to the weight of H.
Samir shalom, your did great ✌️
97 compliment you the best
Seems to me his forehand was deeper with the 100. One thing I struggle with switching from Vcore pro 100 to 97 is volley's hitting with the frame. 100 is easier for volley's I think.
Agassi plays with the Prince Phantom 107G... it's got a camo green PJ which can easily be mistaken for the Percept
Interesting thank you
@IntuitiveTennis and great video BTW! Shamir has really improved, it's a treat to see your process with him.
Agassi and Graf were spotted playing with the Percept 100D in the US and during and exibition in Romania. During the US Open, yes, Agassi was using a Prince. We don't know for sure which one they will stick with...
🙏🙏
Ok I thought I saw percept when they were hitting
Is this a viable concept: Play the 'H' in the first set and then the '97' in later sets?
I was looking at getting one of these …. also someone is livin posh 😅
Percept h?! 330g unstrung?!?! Crazy weight for a recreational player!
Beyond too heavy
He has the strength to handle it
@@jayp123 You say that, but does he? We can't see him in a tournament situation here, the Saturday would have him play 2 matches , so in hour 4 of singles that day, the second match, will he be handling it well? When it's summer? I'm built more like Nick, almost exactly, without the injury history and that is too heavy for me, Shamir is a tiny guy
@@yonexfan12 Shamir is shorter, but his right arm looks toned
@@jayp123doesn’t seem so. Same with the 97. 100 should be his choice. Plays much better
I think 3 sq in is not “only”, it is a huuuge difference!
First!
The longest video ever. Am I right?
Yes it is
It beat this one by a few seconds

how can we be a Shamir and have nick as personal coach!??
bro has improved a lot. needs to add a breath release to relax a little. bweh!
I would have added Ezone 98 to this list too.
How old is Shamir….? In case of his physics. He moves good…
When he plays 2 weeks with the 100 and the right string and tension, he will become a better player….I promise that…
I wish I had a coach like this
Where I play would laugh if I bring new shoes
Loved the video ❤
Why not playing with some lead?Get the 97 310 or 100 and add some lead. He definitely played better with 97H, but i worry his stamina won't allow him to play with it for some sets...😅
Jacob Fearnley is an u and coming star.
Finally...put 5 grams on the 97 and he'll be a better player. OHBH needs more racquet speed and he can't get that with 330g stick.
Shamir should test blade 98 v9 16x19
V8 98 16/19 💪
18x20 string pattern is a big no for me‼️I got a nasty tennis elbow injury when I got one. I prefer 16x19 with 315-320 grams‼️
shamir is almost always hitting the backhand not properly leaning forward with his body, he would get so much power and control if he did that, better on the forehand for sure
Can always customize the 97 or the 100.
He needs to play games, I feel he wanted to keep his old racket just by preference and experience. 🤔
maybe I should play pickleball -- never say that Shamir.
you like Kuerten
I do, on the spot could not think of all the guys
Thats what happens to most of the rec players and Shamir when it comes to play matches he sucks while at training he may perform well
Vcore 98 or 98+
I'm using vcore 100, but after a bit I feel like I could have gone with 98
Finally.
i don't think he's good enough to notice any difference between the racquets. Blind test him and he wouldn't know what racquet he's playing with.
Unless you use it as a weapon, I don't see the point in a OHBH. for Shamir.
Shamir needs a 100/300gr racket. His level is too low for a 97/305 or heavier
Nonsense, the 97 is plenty big enough.
