For straight up acoustic (no amplification) playing in groups of other string instruments, the HD will stand out, but they are both fine instruments and a pleasure to own either.
For both of these guitars... Strings are a big part of the sound. For a number of years, I used medium strings but found I preferred 12-54 lights. The lights aren't as loud and have less bass but with this guitar that is OK. I have the HD.
I first had a D 28 and traded up for and HD 28. Definitely sounded better. I recently purchased a 2006 HD 28A. It sounds a bit better in the mids and just better materials. All 3 are awesome though.
I used Daddario's 12's for 15 years on my HD28V. I recently switched to Tony Rice Retro Monel 13's. The Retro's last longer, not as bright when put on but overall I am super impressed with these strings. I had some buzzing on my B and E strings on the top 2 frets and the Retro's eliminated this. Certainly worth a try. Hope this helps.
Martin is so expensive though, I'd just go for a Takamine, which is a great & underestimated brand. They have dreadnoughts now too with thermal top that sound like vintage martins, great alternative cuz it's much more affordable, aldo i like martin too but a great martin guitar costs a fortune...
Robert Ball funny you say that, it was one of my 3 complaints about the hd28v when I was looking to buy one. That , the uncomfortable v neck, and the sound quality breaks up when pushed. I now have a d18ge, beat guitar I've ever heard or played.
I own an HD-28V, and it’s the best acoustic I’ve ever heard (or played) in all my 47 years as a professional guitarist.
I have one too…bought it as soon as I strummed ..so loud !
I have an HD28. Never regretted pulling the trigger!
I’ve owned my HD 28 VR for 21 yrs. no regrets. Played a few before I bought, they were all consistent in tone.
Absolutely right about the HD28V... it definitely has a 3D-sound.
Especially open tune strumming with no fingers on the fret board
lovely HD 28V
I love the more mid-range sound of the D-28. The HD-28V sounds sweet and more open, but the sound of the D-28 seems to be more focused and direct.
orders hahahahaaha. That's funny
I have a 2010 HD28V ...its so good.
Nice playing and nice review. Thanks
I still dig my d 28. A. Good old friend .......also my ovatio is tops too !
Thank you!!
I'm buying one of them.
hd28v sounds killer

Good differentiation between the 2 Martin guitars, a very slight variations on sound and I would prefer the Vintage of the two.Tks
Me too. I like the straight braced D-28's best.

I use Daddario's for all my acoustic guitars, but what's the best strings to use for that Martin hd28v?
Santa Cruz parabolic medium tension are my favorites. I have an HD-28, and have tried all types and brands - to include D’Addario PB’s and NB’s.

thx for this video i think i'm gonna take the "hd" now ^^

Whilst one would be very happy with either, the notes on the HD seem to `fly` into the air with a greater freedom,so the HD `has it` for this listner.
One could argue the HD has more bass and treble but I prefer the more fundamental whole tone sound Of the D28
The HD stands out clearer, somehow. The D has this wooden and suppressed sound which is typical Martin
To my ears it's exactly the opposite
HD-28V gets it👍🏻
What is the 2nd song?
Hi I was wondering if anybody can answer this question on the hd28v for the bracing do they use hot hide glue
I believe they only use hide glue in custom orders that request it
What is language you speaking? Why you spell "it" instead "eight" ?
If Plato was right and there is an archetypical guitar, it is a D-28.
Bob Aldo *d18
Owned a D-18, traded for an HD-28. Everyone’s ears and aspirations are different.
The HD-28V sounds superior on fingerstyle.
I'm not a fan of the HD tone and now Martin changed the D28 for some reason
How did they change it?
@@ThePerfectLizrd they scalloped the bracing and forward shifted it.
Spanish cedar necks, not mahogany. nice review- nice playing.
No. They're mahogany.
What is “select hardwoods”?
weak trebles on that hd28v. thats what i hear.
