Ricky, I'm interested in the "not disturbing the surface" comments. I've always been under the impression that, that is where the gas exchange really takes place, not when the air is moving through the water; therefore, the lack of disturbance on the surface means less oxygenation?
I'd be interested in yours and other people's thoughts on that.
The air bubble has to break somewhere and that is where the oxygen is created so the more bubbles the better.
@@KoiKicks Thanks, that makes sense.
I thought I read the same thing. The air exchange takes place from more of the water hitting the water surface, so the more turnover the better.
The oxygen diffusion occurs mostly as the bubble is formed by the diffuser and as the bubble rises in the water. The smaller the bubbles, the slower they rise in the water and the greater the contact time is with the water for oxygen transfer. Larger bubbles will rise faster in the water reducing the bubble-water interface and simply break at the surface sending the valuable oxygen back into the atmosphere.
A very small degree of oxygen transfer does happen as the bubble breaks at the surface, but this is minimal and applies more to atmospheric oxygen brought/mixed into the pond by the surface layer being broken (by rain or cascading water for example) but not with air that is pumped into a pond via an air pump through a diffuser.
I've been running a rubber air diffuser ring for the past 8 months and what a difference. Lot less churning on the surface, very fine air bubbles, virtually maintenance free. It was an import, designed for lakes and heavy duty pumps. Works o.k with mt 80L pump although could go up to 120L/hr. Well worth the money. And would prob last for ever
I no what you are saying was using the air discs after a bit like you said don t last long and the seal does brake so I replaced them with two rubber rings what a difference fantastic air and flow in my pond 😊 and just to say fantastic Japan video.s rick so professional done can t wait to see more
it is for sure the end of ceramic. I only fitted airbars in my new main pond and growing on tank, they are performing so well. they dont disturb the surface as much 🙏😊
Thanks for your feedback, interesting to hear.
Would you recommend these over a fixed one on a bottom drain, worse bubbles but less pipes etc in pond?
prefer the 2m bar at 2.40 tbh. That big 1m diffuser is huge..way too big for my pond. Was the bar bought or did you make it. Any links pls.
The 2m Air Bar and 1m Air Ring are both supplied by us 🙂
@@aqua-aeration-systems-ltdHi there whare can I purchase your products? Can't find anything on the internet.
What's your opinion on running one of these rings in a moving bed instead of a traditional air disc?
Our Air Bars and Air Rings work very well in bio chambers and many have replaced their air discs with these for better tumbling of the bio media.
We also have a air grid specifically designed for moving bed filters 🙂
Where can you buy these?
Aqua aeration systems

Do they work with K1 in moving bed filters?
yes they do. I fitted 2 airbars in my combi drum. Media i turning over better than ever 🙏😊
They certainly do. We have fitted a number of bio chambers with air bars and air rings. We also have a designated air grid made specifically for bio chambers 🙂
Ricky!
I’m tryna grow out a ginrin bengoi (5 inches) in a 10 gallon tub
What water temperature is the best for koi to grow rapid???!
koi are a schooling fish, why would you isolate one koi in a 45l bucket!!!
