Love watching your videos! So in depth and informative! I had a horrible infestation of flukes last year! I hope and pray they don’t show up this year! I am in the US and two weeks ago it was 79 degrees. Today we had a snow storm! Gezzz… yesterday it was the start of Spring! Hope OJ is doing better!
Hiya, Snow storm.... Wow. Thankyou for that great feedback. So glad your enjoying the videos.. your summer will be with you to be able to enjoy your pond before you know it..
First time viewing this clip as I have skin flukes for the first time . Even though your medication is for something else, the way you come over in this clip is very easy to understand and also you talk thru everything very slowly. Great that you add things in the description. Have now subscribed to your channel 👍🏻
Hiya, thanks for the great feedback, and welcome to the channel.. There's loads of other videos I've created in the channel you might be interested in including Fluke treatments. 😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle Thx have just got back into the koi scene after many years ie/ kids families…. I see that you have multi chamber. I used to have one of those many moons ago. Tbh I think there still The best but always have to keep on cleaning them. If your not too bothered I think there still good. Will have a look at your other vids on your page … Thx and keep up the vids 👍🏻
Hi Andy Bernie from Wombourne my pond temp at the mo is 10.3 degrees with the covers still on. fish looking OK. hope your prob goes away pretty quick matey
Pond temp at 14-15 degrees, temps are about to go up a fair bit over here in Shanghai. New to the game so your vids are helping with all the fun and games of NPS!
As you say it’s that time of year. My pond is 12.5 today but has been as high as 13.5. Based in Wiltshire. Sometime I wonder if someone would develop a preventative for these things that you could give your fish in spring just like we put in filter boost at the start of the season. I fish boost to help them fight of parasites.
Always treat your pond for costia in small doses as soon as the water temperatures starts to creep up because costia are one of the first to wake up in spring time..and you can get really good net handles for your net from a fishing tackle shop with the same screw fittings made from either fibreglass or if you want to splash out also in carbon fibre 👍
you and Andy at Derby Koi. OJ is a big bugger isn't he. Buy a dress makers tape and stick it to the bottom of the container. Im happy using pottasium permanganate. Temp is 9.5c - 10.6c all week. Hoping its going to pick up now..the fish certainly seem a lot happy swimming around near the surface. Hope OJ and his mates are all ok
Hi Andy, I’m pretty sure you can’t use malachite green if the water temperature is below 12.5 as it just doesn’t work. Maybe different across brands but my kusuri definitely states this on the bottle so you might want to check this. Also I have a spare net, pm me your address and I’ll get it posted to you.
Hiya, yeah I dosed a degree under the bottle recommends to see how it went. I should have mentioned this in the video. Are you sure about the net. Postage can be quite expensive nowadays..😊🤔
As always a great informative video. I have 2 koi lying on there sides on the bottom. I scraped them can't see anything as my microscope is 💩 i put half a dose of fmg mixture on monday. Do i full dose asap or wait until monday. Any ideas. HELP
Hiya, I've seen fish on their sides over winter when the temps are right down but if your temps are coming up then could be something else. If you've dosed with FMG already, I would stick to what it says on the product to dose. In the video I dosed after 5 days as the label say redose 5-7 days so I went with the 5 as a personal choice.. Good luck and I hope your fish are ok..🤞😉
@@KoiPondLifestyle Hi thanks for your reply. I'm panicking a little as they've been like it for a week now. I was wondering if i did a 30%-50% water change then did a full dose as i only dosed half on monday not knowing what im doing 🤷♂️
@richard2234 I dosed mine 1 degree under what the bottle recommends which I believe would be ok. The thing with winter is trying to minimise stress to the fish so a water change if it doesn't affect the pond temp too much wouldn't do any harm if its steady. I don't think a large water change would change anything.. 🤔
Stourbridge, West Midlands Pond is currently sat at around 8°C (not covered). Fish are certainly a lot more active and having bits of food. Plenty of blanket weed too but water not warm enough to put the cloverleaf stuff in 🤦🏻♂️
I picked up the Costia on the medium setting that you saw as I filmed them through the lense but to see them better it really needs to be on the 400 high setting.😉👍
Hi Andy West Yorkshire my temps are from 9- 10.3 so getting warmer my fish have been up at the surface past few days looking for food so have increased feeding slightly they seam to be enjoying the extra food ahah
Hope you can help I’m looking for recommendations to fibreglass my small pond I’ve been quoted silly prices it’s 2.4x2.2x1.4m deep I don’t mind spending bit but some quotes coming back are like £2100
Just finished 2 courses of FMG to treat white spot, cost a fair bit heating 12,000 litres to 20c (even with an ASHP) since start of feb. As you know white spot (ich) is a pain to treat. Only 2 parts in the life cycle where the chemicals can kill the parasite (when the adult trophant leaves the fish but before it encases itself on the pond floor) and then when the baby tomites hatch out and before they burrow into the fish skin (under the mucuous) FMG is active up to 10 days. The life cycle at 10c for white spot can be 3-4 weeks. At 20c is about a week (so within the active period for the treatment)
Great update Andy hope OJ is looking better. Temperature for me up South Shields (Newcastle/Sunderland area) I’ve only had a high of 10 degrees but back down to 8.5 today 😢
My Fish have been awake abut 2 weeks now. Coming up for food. Air stones back on UV back on no flashing.. never seen that . They all seem happy and hungry. have done a filter clean.
Hi Andy. Great video again mate. Been watching your channel for a while now. I would like to send you a parcel for you as a small gesture. Is this possible?

I found some on mine today iv already treated I use the premix one and my pond at 18° heated which I will start in creasing the temperature, to I get to about 24
Hiya, that's one video I've not created yet. You basically remove some if the mucus from the fish to view if anything is living on the fish. You can use a credit type of tool. I think Eden Koi channel demonstrated scraping one of his fish recently but I think he sedated that one that I don't do. There should be other videos out there that show you more detail of how to do it.. Good luck..😉👍
Hi Andy, Can you use these treatments as preventive ? If not, do you know of a parasitic preventative treatment that can be used? Also, Coventry area around the 11-12c but one day last week i got 13c. Fish are feeding well, but have done all winter to be fair.
Hiya, I know some pond keepers that treat their ponds as a prevention each spring. The issue with that is what treatment to use as a prevention? I've always been told to only treat what you know your treating for. I'm not aware of a product that covers all parasite issues, but if anyone comes up with that, they will be a rich person..😊😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyleYeah, ive watched all your vids, but just took another look at this one, My fish have way too much speed and water to go around in, even when i had my small pond i had a big problem to catch them back then. In the end i ent and bought myself a carp landing net and this helped, although i didnt want to use it as it was coarse webbing but its the only thing i could get them with, a pan net was totally a no win situation.
Does the water go clear again or need any water changes after treatment ? I know medications can stain or stay discoloured from my aquarium days . unsure on ponds
Hiya, the stain in the water does clear over a couple of days, as it runs through the filters. Alot of the colour is collected in the filter system as well.. Thanks for watching..😉👍
