If the arch of the backbone is not as high as it should be then the fish is a Saboa . Both Saboa and Tamasaba are descendants from the Ryukin which was crossed with a now extinct goldfish variety called the Syounia which was a slim bodied goldfish much like a common or a comet and as hard as nails . A pity it’s extinct now .

I’ve kept high end Fancy Goldfish for 12 years, I have 21 Tamasaba and Japanese Koi from some of the best breeders. In the days when I used to attend goldfish shows there was always an argument or discussion about rates of growth some breeders for instance got their Bristol Shubunkins ,I have one left that lives with my koi ! To grow extremely quickly. This always favoured those breeders in the class that age of fish belonged to in shows . One argument that swayed me was that to grow them a little more slowly allowed the bone structure to develop in tandem with the muscle growth of the fish . I found some fish that were grown too quickly could become weak and unbalanced. Some of these breeders were retired and fed ridiculous amounts of food daily and used sponge filtration. Obviously you have state of the art filtration and all year feeding with makes a difference, mine are growing slowly and steadily being outdoors I can’t grow them as fast as I’d like but I’m sure they will get there eventually
