In this diy timber framing video, we are working on the construction of the off grid timber frame cabin homestead in the Great Smoky Mountains using both modern and traditional hand tools in the woodwork, improving self reliant skills and are currently installing the board & batten exterior siding on the cabin and using reflective barrier along with insulation for the home. Mortise and tenon are the basic frame work on the 7 x 7 post and beam along with the 7 x 10 beams that support the floor joist. We hope you will follow us through the final stages of the cabin build, chicken house, root cellar, basecamp and future barn for the homestead.

Glad to see you using a strip along the bottom of the cabin to sit the board on instead of holding it and trying to put screws in at the same time. I like this end better with the boards being full length. Stay safe

Build has been awesome to watch I really like the siding it's beautiful. I think that floor boards done that way would be beautiful however don't know what they could be clear coated with to stay beautiful with daily traffic of every day use. Keep up the good work the outside Rock's

The white windows, gives a crisp detail to the board and batten siding.
I used board and batten on my home in Tn. 40 years ago and still looks great after the years have passed by!
I really like the burn/stain look, might have to bring it to Alaska when I venture off to my cabin in the woods, (soon)

I don't know if it is the camera angle or just because it is the finished look on the outside but the cabin actually looks larger from the outside with the siding on. Really, really looking good. You nailed the look and the color. I like it a lot. Our family cabin was built back in the late 60's and was done with board and batten but my dad used creosote for the outside. You could buy and use it back then. I like the look of your cabin a lot better.

I really like the look of the cabin. Truthfully, when you said what you were going to do with the burnt effect, I thought it would be awful... but it is really nice. But my opinion doesn't really matter, because it is your house, and no matter what people think of it, you are the one that will have to like it! I enjoy watching you each morning with my morning coffee.
