    In this diy timber framing video, we are working on the construction of the off grid timber frame cabin homestead in the Great Smoky Mountains using both modern and traditional hand tools in the woodwork, improving self reliant skills and are beginning to install the exterior of the cabin and using reflective barrier along with insulation for the home, and closing the gable ends. Mortise and tenon are the basic frame work on the 7 x 7 post and beam along with the 7 x 10 beams that support the floor joist. We hope you will follow us through the final stages of the cabin build, chicken house, root cellar, basecamp and future barn for the homestead.

    Cut your treats in small pieces as rewards for you commands. You’ll be surprised how fast they catch on. I had a German Shepard that I could ask him questions and he could react a specific way that I knew he understood.

    Greetings to all, I think the silicone option is very good, do not forget the upper part of the windows, it is usually a place where water accumulates. The puppy is more beautiful every day and the cabin is very beautiful, thanks for sharing your videos.

    Small tip on board and batten. When your board or batten isn’t long enough and you’re forced to have a butt joint, cut a 45 degree angle in the ends. Install so that the top board overlaps the bottom board. It will help with water issues. The house is looking really good! I can’t wait to see the front done

    Hi Richard, Been watching from about the beginning. You are doing one really amazing job on this place. Bravo! I can't believe how beautiful the whole outside looks with that burnt & oiled finish on it. I would never have thought of that! Again, Bravo. I'm a wooden boatbuilding guy, so I wonder?? Sadly your lovely daughter is so busy with the rest of her life that she makes fewer appearances. Jennifer, Would it be OK if your Dad hired a Meme to fill in for you and pretend to be you? She could tell goofy jokes and maybe help putting up the rest of that siding? I miss ya girl! You better stop in more often or that puppy will be a dog who doesn't even know you. LOL. Enough for this week, Made my Day!

    The board and batten gives a texture to the exterior that to me looks beautiful. The white windows gives just the right amount of accent color. I'm assuming you will apply another coat of that oil to the entire exterior when you finish. GREAT LOOK‼️👍👍. Vinny 🇺🇸 PS, Patrick is a great help‼️‼️

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
      @SmokyMountainOutpost  3 роки тому +1

      No, it’s not adhesive, it’s silicone. It’s not expensive so I figured I would add it just for peace of mind. Also, some fasten between the boards and some fasten to one side. I decided to fasten between. Boards can move either way. I will probably have a little more shrinking from the wood anyway.

    Greetings from Russia. Richard, how much polyurethane foam do you need for your home?

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
      @SmokyMountainOutpost  3 роки тому +1

      Not sure. Roof measures 15 x 39 each side (inside), so roughly 30 x 40 or 1200 sq ft. The gable ends are roughly 300 sq ft total. If I use 2in or larger the total would be around 1500 sq ft.

    Curious, what is the life expectancy of the Australian Tongue Oil? I'm in a little harsher climate extreme cold and extended UV exposure. (Alaska)

    • @SmokyMountainOutpost
      @SmokyMountainOutpost  3 роки тому +1

      Not sure on the life. If I remember it has iron oxide or similar to prevent UV breakdown. The name is Australian Timer Oil by Cabot. I think that’s how is spelled. Info is probably available on all the specs if you want to check it out. I can tell you it goes on smooth and others have commented they have used it and it’s fantastic.

      Why is it dangerous to go into the jungle between 2 and 4 in the afternoon? Why do ducks have webbed feet? What do you find between elephants toes? Why do elephant have flat feet? Why are Pigmies so short?

    • @sheldonhurd7206

      Back when I was in Jr High (1971) I got a book called 101 Elephant Jokes which I memorized. There are some better than others like the group above. and so what you all have been waiting for the other half of the story. In the jungle, between 2 and 4 in the afternoon, the elephants are jumping out of the trees. Ducks have flat feet to stamp out forest fires. Found between elephant toes are slow running natives. Elephant have flat feet to stamp out burning duck, Pigmies are small because they were in the jungle between 2 and 4 in the afternoon.
