I recently took a new job that I thought would be more in line with what I wanted but I feel like I have to be an "overachiever" and hustle to even stay above water. But what I really want to do is clock in, do my 9-5, clock out and then actually live my life. Thoughts/ advice?

I will just say - I definitely had a similar falling out of love with my ~corporate tech job in the last few years, but having that experience without the kind of community it seems like you do can be soooo much harder (happy for you! but this can be much more difficult if work feels like the only place that you have people to talk to or socialize with!)

My skin has never been better since I decided to stop watchig 30 step skincare routines in UA-cam and consulted a dermatologist who helped me realize I was just doing too much. She helped me reign it in to a simple cleans, moisturize, SPF routine. My bank account and my skin have never been happier! Also, as a Latin American idk what you mean by Buen Vivir western capitalist values have infiltrated Latin culture so much that I don't see that being the actual case, at least not in my 32 years on this earth and definitely not in my parents generation either...it's a nice concept though but gives me a little "wellness industry" vibes so idk.

If I manage to find a job with decent people, that part of my life will be fine. But I have the issue of not wanting to do anything and as a result I end up not achieving anything whatsoever. I guess my question would be do I do things just for the sake of achieving something. I am personally happy working 40 hours a week, primarily because I really enjoy what I do, and I’m paid fairly for it. Being born and raised and now raising a family in SF, I can’t imagine it working and still being able to provide for my family, although, perhaps more importantly, I can’t imagine not working and feeling truly fulfilled. hi i'm in seattle too! breaking into a new career in tech and capitalism coming from a long and full professional career from dance and performance art and it's weird and scary but cool and i appreciate your insight and perspective so much, it's fascinating. i hope seattle has been good to you as it's been to me for the last 20 years and I'm interested in finding my reconciliation with the corporate tech world that would allow me to be 'free' to do things like go see my family and invest in important relationships and invest in my own well-being because i understand the pathways to be 'successful.'.... does that make sense? anywhoo if you want to happy hour sometime and need friends, I'm here for ya.

lmaoooo we should be working 20 hrs a week and getting paid handsomely for it based on the ""efficiencies"" that capitalism has created in the last 40 years but here we are with wages that have barely grown in 15 years and the same # of hours

I suppose I’m not exactly speaking about the specificities of the time for money trade, as it pertains to hours and dollars, rather, I’m speaking about the general premise. I still find what you’re saying and your stance to be really fascinating though, and if it works for you and you’re happy, then more power to you. I am personally happy working 40 hours a week, primarily because I really enjoy what I do, and I’m paid fairly for it. Being born and raised and now raising a family in SF, I can’t imagine it working and still being able to provide for my family, although, perhaps more importantly, I can’t imagine not working and feeling truly fulfilled. Different strokes I suppose. Anyway, I really do enjoy your content, and wish you all the luck with your future endeavors!

Very interesting. Has your work noticed your transformation? I once had a manager say my performance dropped off in the latter part of the year and questioned me why. I thought it was none of his business. I had shifted my priorities a little, but I didn't feel it was to the detriment of my work.
