    Great Video. I was wandering whether you could recommend any books or other resources which give a beginner an insight into the commercial side of Actuarial Science preferably related to the insurance industry?

    Wonderful list of books. Would you consider doing a video on applying the academic actuarial training, that is the formal education of an actuary, to developing an options trading strategy for the individual? Perhaps this is a bit wordy, but how can I use my actuarial knowledge to develop options trading strategies?

    how will actuaries be affected by big data?

    • @mohitthareja6608
      @mohitthareja6608 6 років тому

      I think all the principles will remain the same but to process big data into information we just need more computational power. And more raw data means more accurate information, better predictions, and better risk management.

    Anyone ever did analytical work on the market in second life, imvu etc ... I was proposing that these virtual economies should be researched and can provide an opportunity to explain behavior of participants wrt to money if such analysis is done ... Ultimately the business school I attended advised that this is beyond an MBA thesis and I settled for researching the design factors and implementation ERM for a firm in the non-financial sector ...
    It fascinates me how people behave and interact with the virtual world using these avatars etc

      If the operator sets up a stock exchange within that world what will it look like? What could money as a concept really look like if it was cheaply available and if all good are renewable i.e. virtual? Then how does one measure value of a commodity in that world? What really is the currency???

    Hi MJ. I read alot about the journey to become and actuary, and I find it a little confusing. Here in Denmark, you study in total 5 years actuarial science, (bachelors 3 years, and candidate 2 years), and then you will be considered an actuary. But as far as i've understood, in other countries, even though you finish the university, you still have to take some exams, very difficult exams. Is this true? can you please inform me?

    • @MJtheFellowActuary
      @MJtheFellowActuary  7 років тому

      yes here in South Africa we need a degree plus 15 exams. Half of the exams you can do in your undergraduate degree, you can do some more in a post graduate but there are few that you have to do on your own after you have worked for 3 years

    • @SA-gt8lx
      @SA-gt8lx 7 років тому

      Will i then be considered an actuary in for example south africa, if im consideren an actuary in Denmark? I dont take the exam that you take.
