I agree with the spur situation. Ever since I was younger and started riding, I was always taught to use the inside of the calf. As I started working with even better professionals in the industry they talked about and described riders that would use their heel and just spur for almost Every aid with everything they’re doing with the leg. My instructors would always teach to use the calf and not the heel or rely on spur for everything. If it was supposed to be a heel aid or a spur all the time, it would be called a heal aid not a leg aid. Your calf is already nicely positioned and in contact with your Horse’s side and always right there ready to give an aid. You do not need to rely on just the spur or bending your knee and using your heel. Using the inside of your calf makes your aids that much more quiet and invisible, Long as you are positioned correctly and using your aids correctly And your horse is trained to be on your aids or in front of your leg.
Such a good thing that you were taught that! I unfortunately learned to use my heels (don’t know if it necessarily was my riding school’s fault, don’t think so as I’m still riding there) and now I’m trying really hard to unlearn it and relearn the right way. But I’m getting there!
Never in all my years of riding have i ever heard or taught any1 the ....heel aid😅 theres no such thing! Heels down ..yes absolutely. But heel aid ..nope! Not sure where u guys take lessons but thats not a thing. Leg aid yes. U use ur heel to find different buttons. From ur comment im wondering what level u ride at. U use ur heel or spur to find different buttons. Ie at a higher level most horses have 4 different trots and canters. The leg or calve to be precise is too large a area to give these precise aids to find the different buttons on the horses barrel. Hence why spurs are used and are required in most high level tests. Infact in most its a requirement to wear them to give ur horse more direct aids. But yh once u move up the levels and ur horse does too, the calf just is too large to tell and communicate precisely to ur horse what u want. X
Same when I got of the horse I knew I used leg correctly since my calf and thighs always ached. It was very rare for me to use my crop. I gave him a light tap on the shoulder to wake him up if he never responded to my leg and that was about it. I never ever use spurs.
Much respect for you, Jesse. I stood up and cheered when you made Matt take the Spurs off. And you have worked wonders with Antares. Outstanding Equestrian!
Just as Matt struggled with Jesse way, Jesse struggled with matts way. Doesn’t mean one is better than the other just people have different ways and disciplines. Both perfect in your own discipline 💗
Yes it does one way is done with patience, love respect and intelligence, and understanding the horse....and the other way is how to use torture devices, demanding, using the rains to balance on and not using your brain to understand tge horse and not just do what the human say to do!
This is great! Get Matt out of his comfort zone! And it was a positive experience for all. You've done such a nice job with Antares, Jesse! Also a real lsugh too see the differences in riding and opinions between Matt and Jesse!
Antares is such a beautiful horse and an especially great prancer (trotter). Thanks Jesse and Matt, always enjoy sometime with you and you're lovely animals.
love the neck rope riding, its interesting how freer the horse behaves in its head and neck area without the bridle yet still executes the moves asked of it a beautiful horse and love watching your videos
😂 the start of this is brilliant! I really like Matt but very honestly, I always preferred your riding so I like that you are like “no, my horse, my way”☺️
Antares - you gotta love him! Instead of doing the Spanish Walk... Antares says "that's baby stuff - I'll show you the Spanish trot!" It was such a beautiful floating trot! 👍 I 💖'd his ears at the end - flat out sideways... as if to say "I have NO idea what these two are doing!" 😁🤣😆
Good for you Jesse sticking up for your horse and not allowing spurs to be used. Riders can become so reliant on artificial aids that they struggle to ride without them. Stripping back to basics will make you a better rider and give you feel. I have to say that I enjoy videos far more without Matt in them these days, he seems so genuinely unappreciative of other people’s goals and great achievements. Absolutely love watching your videos Jesse, don’t ever change, you’re an amazing horseman and a great teacher.
I used to ride a horse like this. He taught me that the back injury I had was more serious than I thought. In fact the aids I thought I was giving were actually reversed. I had an experienced instructor on the ground to observe and she said I was giving aids in reverse left/ right and right/left.😮
The back injury never resolved. I stopped riding within six months. I did not want to wreck good horses because I had lost ‘feel’. It has now been twenty years and the additional injuries caused by a car crash have ensured that I have not ridden to a good standard since. However, after watching your videos, I feel inspired to start again sometime soon. 18:48
Loved watching this video. Starting my own Friesian and want to try to ride more naturally on her and more classical…Jesse your horse is beautiful and you have taught ihim to balance himself. Please make more fun clips like this …I love seeing Matt out of his comfort zone and you getting amused by that! Your giggle is infectious!
That was really cute. I think you can always learn new aspects, and Jesse and Matt demonstrated that perfectly. Antares is such a sweet horse, such a pleasure to watch him.
The way Jesse summed up the experience was perfect.... thank you to both of you... it must be very interesting to watch your boy being ridden by someone else.... another perspective that you can't experience when you are the rider...Nice!

OMG. No two horses are the same. Just coz matt rides HIS horse with spurs, doesn't mean he SHOULD ride any other horse that isn't his with spurs, nor does he have much right to IF the owner puts their foot down. Glad to see he humored Jesse.
It was great! I love how you stand up for your horse. Matt is great, but he seems to be a bit bossy sometimes! Don't feel like you're not an as good rider as him, because you really are! You're both amazing, just different techniques!
I love this video, but my favourite part is the spurs. We all know Matt would NEVER hurt a horse with spurs (or in any way) but the kind way Jesse insists they aren't necessary made my heart warm. It's clear he's more focused on allowing the horse to talk through Matt without tools
I like how he stood his ground about the spurs, being a good example for people watching that you don’t need to give into the pressure to use methods that are harsher than you’re comfortable with 😊 And i agree, spurs are just a way to cheat your way into looking more effortless. If someone actually feels like they absolutely need them, it probably means that they have unresolved problems riding with the horse. Although i’ve never touched them myself so what do i know, but i bet it’s the same for any tool to harden the physical pressure. Matt clearly didn’t need them either, and that’s always cooler and more impressive than needing them.
I love watching you two together. You make me laugh so much. You’re both excellent riders but have completely different styles and the way you interact cracks me up.😂
This was the funniest video that the two of you have done together! Have you two watched much of the OLD American slap-stick comedy? The banter between the two of you reminds me of that. Jesse’s take on our American southern drawl just about took me to the floor laughing 😂!! Guys, this was fun 🤩!
What a great partnership they both have. Matt is the matador standing tall and redirecting his movement and Jesse is the cape, soft, flowing and gentle. I love all their videos❤
"Take the spurs off"
"But I'm barely going to be touching him"
"Good then you don't need them"

Each rider has his/her own rules, so NO SPURS for Jesse who will respect Matt's rules. They are both excellent riders and they have different ways of training and riding their horses (goals, character, horses are different).
Thanks to both of you for sharing this great video. 😍👍💙
😂coffee like an adult. Oh Jesse you’re Hilarious ❤
Yes!!! I was taught the same. Use your inner calves, peeps! And gently, too. 😊
Even esthetically, the heels down always looks way better.
I love Matt but seeing his heels up most of the time make me cringe a little.
Beautiful, gentle assertiveness, Jesse. Way to protect your horse.
Whoop Whoop, go Jesse! Great to hear you standing for your horse! Fun to see you work together this way. Lekker bezig.
It’s the throwing of the spurs for me 😂
Much respect for you, Jesse. I stood up and cheered when you made Matt take the Spurs off. And you have worked wonders with Antares. Outstanding Equestrian!
Hello how are you doing today
Just as Matt struggled with Jesse way, Jesse struggled with matts way. Doesn’t mean one is better than the other just people have different ways and disciplines. Both perfect in your own discipline 💗
Yes it does one way is done with patience, love respect and intelligence, and understanding the horse....and the other way is how to use torture devices, demanding, using the rains to balance on and not using your brain to understand tge horse and not just do what the human say to do!
OMG. I liv luv the Change. Laughed so hard. Adorable!! Sooo cute
Antares is so unique and adorable! Love his ears too!!!
Jesse, I love how you seem to make all decisions on the basis of kindness to the horse, your training includes such kindness also!
This is great! Get Matt out of his comfort zone! And it was a positive experience for all. You've done such a nice job with Antares, Jesse! Also a real lsugh too see the differences in riding and opinions between Matt and Jesse!
Hello how are you doing today
Antares is such a beautiful horse and an especially great prancer (trotter). Thanks Jesse and Matt, always enjoy sometime with you and you're lovely animals.
This horse is such a pleasure to watch: confortable in mind and body, relaxed, powerful...wow!
Love how you stand your ground Jesse, with Matt and your horse...here ..here...
I love how much you adore your horse, Jesse. So sweet!
love the neck rope riding, its interesting how freer the horse behaves in its head and neck area without the bridle yet still executes the moves asked of it a beautiful horse and love watching your videos
" You can't just come in here like Anky . . . " Ouch! 😁
I have been around horses all my life and you are absolutely amazing with horses. I am sooo impressed
Watched this video again. Still laughing. 😅
Matt “what’s happening “…you guys are just the best !!!!
Omg I almost swallowed my tongue when you put wings on Matt’s spurs ✈️ 😅
Absolutely the BEST moment! 😁👍👏
Jesse has so much kindness and love for his horses
It’s so hard to let someone else ride your horse! I admire you both. 🥰🥰
Amen! Well said!!! 👏👍🇳🇱
I love to see them both together. As another viewer said, they have an amazing and very successful partnership. You two play of each other so well.
Jesse, you are so kind to your horse...your spirit and his are one...I love that you love him!
You guys could have your own sit-com. The Bickersons 🤣
Loved watching this video. Starting my own Friesian and want to try to ride more naturally on her and more classical…Jesse your horse is beautiful and you have taught ihim to balance himself. I also loved that for once you were in control and assertive over Matt who usually comes across as the more dominating partner….loved that you asserted YOUR rules with YOUR horse! You and Matt ride so differently but you both adore your horses and it shows in all your videos.
I LOVED IT when you threw away Matt’s spurs!! Lol ❤❤❤❤❤ Bravo! A man like my own heart 💜
Jesse is like a dad watching his child during dance lessons! I love it so much❤️❤️
The way Jesse summed up the experience was perfect.... thank you to both of you... it must be very interesting to watch your boy being ridden by someone else.... another perspective that you can't experience when you are the rider...Nice!
I really love how you had him take off the spurs for your horse. You're the best!
I love how you train your horses Jesse. Very much according to their own strengths and working with their unique body. I really admire you ❤️
Jesse I love how much fun you have with your horses, you are such an inspirational rider/trainer. Please never change we need more people like you in the horse world 💜
What a nice video again. I always enjoy those with the interaction between Matt and you, and the horses of course 😊
Matt and Jesse, you’re my favourite people to watch❤️ you’re both amazing horsemen
It's amazing to witness no bridle! This was enjoyable, thanks for sharing.
Super cool to see the quality, freedom, and cadence of the trot increase so drastically with the neck rope!
"What is happening?!!" "He's just being really EXTRA!!" 🤣😂🤣 OH Matt! Good for you for trying (even if you were just a teensy bit reluctant! 😉💛). Jesse, way to stand up for your principles! And well done Antares!! Two very different riding styles and he coped wonderfully!
OMG. No two horses are the same. Just coz matt rides HIS horse with spurs, doesn't mean he SHOULD ride any other horse that isn't his with spurs, nor does he have much right to IF the owner puts their foot down.
Glad to see he humored Jesse.
I enjoyed the video so much. I watch everyone that you come out with. You two young men and all your horses are so talented.
Those flying changes had me in stitches 🤣🤣
It was great! I love how you stand up for your horse. Matt is great, but he seems to be a bit bossy sometimes! Don't feel like you're not an as good rider as him, because you really are! You're both amazing, just different techniques!
I love this video, but my favourite part is the spurs. We all know Matt would NEVER hurt a horse with spurs (or in any way) but the kind way Jesse insists they aren't necessary made my heart warm. It's clear he's more focused on allowing the horse to talk through Matt without tools
"Well, if you can't whistle then you're doomed..." LOL
I like how he stood his ground about the spurs, being a good example for people watching that you don’t need to give into the pressure to use methods that are harsher than you’re comfortable with 😊
And i agree, spurs are just a way to cheat your way into looking more effortless.
Jesse you have the best best temperament..so much fun. Matt you are such a handsome lead man. Strong learning tools.
I love how calm he handled the no spurs
I love this format! Both of you, riding and chatting and giggling with the cam Jesser!!
I am so glad you stood up to Matt about the spurs! I love how you love your animals!!
Hello how are you doing today
He also dearly loves Matt but businesses is business I’m sure Jesse handles Matt well enough
Jesse and Matt, you are by far my two favorite people on UA-cam!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤️
Such gifted riders....RELAX! That will bring so much joy .
Hello how are you doing today
One beautiful horse, two completly different riders!! Those tempe changes,I remember them well!! xoxo😊🥲😘😘🥲
What a great partnership they both have. Matt is the matador standing tall and redirecting his movement and Jesse is the cape, soft, flowing and gentle. I love all their videos❤
