I gotta say this is one of the coolest trades I’ve made in this hobby yet! Thank you for honing it up super curve and on Jnat no less. I’ve really wanted to see what the edge feels like compared with a standard hone. “Mosquito wing pressure.” 😂
Eric I am not a straight shaver, but just got all 3 of your soaps in after watching Barry at a Texan shaves. Your soaps may be the best performing of the over 40 artisan shops I have ever tried. Paired your soap with a 1938 Gillette senator razor and it was magic. I have used a shavette multiple times and always slice my face open, but never tried a straight. Great soap thank you. My wife is from the Covington Mandeville area and I graduated from LSU.
You have good taste if you married a lady from Louisiana. They are classy, fiery, opinionated, beautiful and independent. I been all over the world and you can’t find any others like them. I am stoked you liked my soap, it’s been a long road in development. I hand process all my own grass fed Louisiana raised beef. I’m not sure if that makes any difference, but I ain’t messing with it. My plan is to roll out limited small batch releases, but I could possibly keep some in rotation, we will see how it goes. I have a few more offerings for seasonal soaps in the works. Thank you for your purchase and thank you for watching. If there is anything I can ever do, shoot me an email. Thanks again Dan!
You should! With all the Jnat experts trolls on forums and other social, there is plenty to upset. Nothing I love more than getting the trolls roweled up. They’re so cute when they are angry.
That's right very misty finish , haze is more controlled in shaving. I can get one so sharp it leaves a burn on the skin. Loose strap for the stropping high reps 100 or less , will make beautiful shave! Great hone..
Great Video Eric 😊 Today I got my first hone stone set from John June . I have made a moved picture video on my channel! And I got many videos to watch 😊
I just watch, read, listen and ask questions. Most importantly, I spend hours with steel on stone. No better way to learn than hands on. I have always been open minded enough to go in to a honing without a routine or agenda in mind. I try to read any stone and give it what it wants. It really simple and fun shit when you let it be. Thanks for watching.
Do you notice a difference between edges when the bevel is hollowed out on synthetic vs natural stones shaped (assuming you are finishing on a flat stone after)? Have not done a lot of testing but use a 5k then 8k. My thoughts were that the natural would be less likely to have your edge chip from the shallower scratches. Do think though that the coticule and or right jnat is a good stone for the job. Cheers
I normally finish flat, that’s just my preference. When it came to starting my curved endeavors, I reached out to Bill and JPO and picked their brains. The goal was to go in with an open mind and avoid others mistakes. The micro chipping from synthetics is a real issue, so never considered shaping a set of Synthetic stones. Just recently Sean did his set and immediately regretted it. Once he understood the concept he realized it was unnecessary work. I think he had to replace all his stones. I did shape a Shapton 1.5 to a 4’ø but I never bring that to the apex. Convex work on a Coti is way to fast and efficient to go thru shaping a whole set of stones. One cheap modern Coti at the 2 curvatures will get it all done, and you only shaping 2 stones. In addition, cotis shape fast. The jnat work was an experiment. Just like with coticules, I knew I only needed 2 stones. The Tsushima was an easy pick doe to its mid range flexibility and its softness on the edge. I wish my 25’ wheel jnat was softer, like a lvl 4 or 4.5, but the one I have works great with Nagura. I do not fight any apex chop out with my current set up. I’m very happy with what I have. Thanks for watching and commenting.
No, I am just leaning myself, but Gregg uses it all the time. Supposedly it can replace, Botan, Tenjyo and Mejiro. Its range is supposed to be 5-8k ish, so far, so good. I am very much in the leaning stages with Chu, but I like it so far.
I been straight razor shaving for almost 40 years , got to buckets of j Nats. I honed for over 2,000 customers. I only hone for me now. Interesting, Cajun, I never learned to convex hone. Wonder if a man has to change the shaving angle to steep? Does it dig in or slide smooth?
It’s no different shave. Here is the deal with convex. If you can hone flat, someone like you that had years of work. It’s a waste of time. Unless you want to do it from an ease of honing standpoint. I did it as an experiment, and I do like the results, but I can do the same thing flat. The advantages I see here are for new honers, it’s real easy to get an excellent end product. It’s pretty fast and consistent. And it saves steel. It may be too long ago for you, but learning to see a bevel properly caused so much razor damage for so many who just don’t get it right away. I think it’s just like anything else, another tool in the tool box. Trying new and different stuff keeps me interested. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Glad you like it! I hope you like the edge.

Nice video. Almost….I said almost, makes me want to jump into the JNat swamp. 😎

Excellent honing session as always! Always enjoy seeing what stones you’re working with.
Thanks Joe, appreciate it bud.
Yeah, that Chu is special. These days my preferred progression for feel and for finish is Chu/Koma. Great video!
You were spot on. I can’t really tell you what I think Chu feels like yet, but I can tell you I like it. Thanks for the idea.

Hi Eric, 5am.. nice video
Morning! Thanks
I see you're practicing for some ASMR videos with that whispering there on the beautiful ozuku! Great video my friend as always it's a treat!
That’s my inside grown up voice

Thanks Mike, misty is best for me. I want a smooth shaver, not in a sharpest razor contest
Nice video man!
Glad you enjoyed it

Can’t wait to see you hone on it

Me too 😊
Your knowledge of stones Eric ...( I'm woefully ignorant on jnats , by choice )....is only riveled by your honing abilities 🎉

@BigEShaves perfectly rational reply 👌

Beautiful Jnats Eric! Never heard of Chu or however you spell it, is it coarser than Botan?
No, I am just leaning myself, but Gregg uses it all the time.
