- We got a first look at the gameplay of Hyper Light Breaker, the sequel to Hyper Light Drifter that blends the futuristic, overgrown aesthetic of the original with a 3D world and more complex, deep combat systems.

Hyper Light Drifter is one of my favorite games. I'm so hyped for this.
It looks like a very natural evolution of Hyper Light Drifter and Solar Ash with a bit of Returnal thrown into the mix.
Count me in!
The exploration was taken from Noita as well. The “completely open rogue like world”.
Solar Ash *probably* was a gameplay prototype for HLB. Devs have tested the core mechanics of the gameplay and then moved on to the development of the HLD sequel, because making a completely diffirent game is hard without practice.
It looks a lot like NieR:Automata mixed with Risk of Rain 2 and the aesthetics of Hyper Light Drifter. Super excited for it!

I’m so excited for the co op. Risk of rain 2 is one of the best games ever made
I'm not a fan of roguelikes or procedural generation, but everything else looks cool, and the open world is a nice departure from the typical single rooms of most in the genre.

Maybe they are going to Returnal route, where each run adds a little to the story.

It kills me that they made this roguelike. The first game had such a well-designed world with so many secrets, and now that's just replaced with random generation.
You say that like procedural generation is easy to do, when it's not.
@@Storse Wtf. You must have reading comprehension problems cuz he didn't say anything close to that. What he said tho is that a cohesive well-designed world is always way better than anything randomly generated.
Procgen *can* be done well, but it's difficult to pull off. Ironically, even though it can save devs some time, it has it's own challenges, and seems front-heavy to implement. It can still have a handcrafted feeling, because they still have to make all the assets that will be used, especially if they're not using the same "tile sets" across the entire game, as well as how they handle the implementation of the algorithm of the procgen systems. Making games is legit hard, and the scale of this one makes it even more so.
Hopefully the "roguelike" part won't be too bad though. I'm *mostly* just happy to hear that there's a single player element, even though playing this mp will probably be really cool with the right group of people.
Not necessarily, Remnant: From The Ashes had procedurally generated levels but still kept a few important plot points standard across playthoughs. Even going with full random they can implement tiles with key points in the story that can just be in different spots. The world can still be well designed
@@SazZe.X Procedural generation can be well designed. Enter the gungeon is an AMAZING game with procedural generation levels, a game of which contains 413847139847 secrets that are only possible to do well because the game is procedurally generated.

This is so weird to think about. We have countless 2D indie platformers these days. But how many modern IPs have gone from 2D to 3D the way Mario did back in the 90s?
