  • Today I had the opportunity to shadow a CRNA who was gracious enough to let me pick her brain and see her process from pre-op to CVICU delivery. Today was also the first of my shadowing experiences in preparation for nurse anesthesia school. Today was the day.

You’ll do it man. I can tell that eagerness to learn anesthesia is in you. That’s what schools want to see. I’ve been a CRNA for 4 years now. It’s an awesome career and you’ll never regret it.

I appreciate the encouragement my friend! Everyone I talk to says it’s a wonderful career and no one ever says they regret it. I’m doing all of the things!

That's wild. I still have an old video of us riding around in your hoopty listening to something ratchet. OG Preceptor

& of course you're far too kind honestly. I hold those memories of the early days of precepting to hearts with you really dear and it was the foundation for my career. Hope you're doing well my friend!

I'm so happy for you man! I just graduated and am looking for a scrub/circulator job in the OR. I fell in love with the environment :D

I appreciate you buddy. Congrats on graduating and good luck in the hunt! Try and find one that has a residency/precepting program to get you acclimated to the OR

@@NurseBass Thanks for the advice! I did my senior preceptorship in the OR and one of the toughest things I had trouble with is developing an "OR ear". Some surgeons whisper so quietly when they need something! haha
Edit: Also thank you for all those educational videos. You really broke down a lot of skills and topics I had trouble with.. like hemodynamics! Even the simple ones like head-to-toe assessments. Your stories are so relatable and funny haha. You really have knack for teaching! I look forward to watching more videos of your journey my man!

@@FruitWT hah, yeah I still haven't developed that surgeon's ear. It was one of the most difficult things for me as well and still is. Hopefully it's an acquired skill that comes with time lol. And hey I appreciate the kind words and am glad that the content has proved helpful my friend. Let's rock these journeys out together!

This is awesome, thanks for all your content! Graduated in December and just got hired in an ICU that does hearts, trauma and neurosurg. Any advice? Been watching your videos for years. Thanks!

That's awesome buddy. Sounds like you're going to get a wide range of ICU experience so that's great. Best advice would be to dive into hemodynamics, dive into drips (sedation/analgesia, inotropes, vasoactives, etc.). These two areas of study will be a great starting point, along with continually refreshing on A&P/Patho. It's a LOT, and it takes time, but it's a worthwhile endeavor!

Any advice on where to find good resources for hemodynamics ?

I would say take the hardest patients while on orientation … try to do as much as u can while on orientation

It’s been so inspiring watching your journey! Judging by your story the learning and opportunities never stop. Congratulations on your new adventure 🎉
Rookie question: In your experience, what is your preferred stethoscope?

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  5 місяців тому +2

Well thank you so much, that's very kind of you! My personal stethoscope preference is any that has digital amplification capabilities. My ears arent the best and the amplified stethoscopes helps me hear a lot better. I have used the Ekos digital stethoscope most of my career. But I'm sure the Littman digitals are great too. That's just my preference though!

Kuddos to you man. Awesome experience. Were there also perfusionists there as well? Perfusionists are also bad ass people.

    • @NurseBass

Yes, there is always at least one perfusionist in these open-heart cases. And they definitely know their stuff and rock that bypass machine. I considered perfusionist at one point in time!
