Man I can remember watching you back when I was in RN school many years ago. I actually just started CRNA school myself. Good luck on your journey man! You're going to kill it.
Hello! Another long time follower since before I was officially in nursing school. Man let me tell you our past selves can definitely suck, but I'm here to give you hope lol Finished ADN 2020/BSN fall 2022/ start my Anesthesia program this fall 2024 Previous degree attempt (music degree/ dropped out after junior year) 100 credits 2.0 GPA w/ multiple F's from just not caring and having no guidance. Once I started on the path to nursing I got my shit together. Nothing less than a B. BSN straight A's. Last 100 credits Approx 3.7/ Science GPA 3.5/ Cumulative... still a 2.9 Advice: Kill your BSN (straight As) and retake any sciences less than a B. Focus on schools that look at recent history(BSN GPA primarily or last 60 credits) and write a hell of a personal statement. Show them change. If you kill your BSN you MAY not need graduate courses(I did not) but if you do Grad Patho and Grad Pharm look good. May sure your BSN is not competency based(Capella/WGU) its too competitive and they are starting to straight up reject those degrees)... you need actual grades not pass fail Outside of grades show leadership Join committees at work, volunteer, make sure you are charge and precepting. Attend AANA events if possible and look up your state nurse anesthesia association and try to attended there events and network network network. If I can do this you absolutely can man. If you(or anyone else reading this) have any other questions DM me on IG at becoming_dr.tre_srna Good luck!
Yeah brother, some of the best advice I've heard in recent years is to do things right now that your future self will thank you for. I spent many years negligent of my future self. But I'm ready to tackle this thing and I'm already on my way. To come back from 100 credits and a 2.0 GPA is absolutely insane. You put in WORK. Congratulations on your acceptance into the program and for beginning very soon! I'm sure you're pumped. Very inspirational to hear a triumphant story to show me that it can be done. I appreciate you taking the time to type out all of this great advice. Clutch comments on the competency-based programs & conferences as well. I was looking at University-specific conferences previously, but I didn't think to check out the AANA or the State Nurse Assocation as well. Will do my friend! Keep me in the loop of how that first semester goes!
I applied to four programs, waitlisted at two and one of those turn into an acceptance at an an IVY league CRNA program. Yes my GPA is solid but my experience is just ER and MICU. Some programs value your kind of experience and well-roundededness over a perfect GPA. Attend every open house of the programs you are interested and you will know who is strict with the GPA versus who takes a more holistic approach. Keep pushing, ace that BSN program, take a grad level course or two and with high acuity ICU experience your application stands out significantly! Good luck, you got this 🙏🏾
Hey I appreciate it buddy! Congratulations on the IVY league acceptance! That's got to be one of the most surreal feelings to get that program invitation extended to you. Like all of that hard work has finally paid off. Granted, the hard work is really just beginning. But you get what I mean lol. Great advice on the holistic applicant vs GPA-valued programs. Also, I'll start looking up open houses of the programs I'm interested in and get the ball rolling!
Dude. Haven’t heard from you for a long time. WOW. Glad you’re back. I was doing pre reqs when I started watching you and been icu for 2 years now and about to apply to CRNA school. Happy for you.
The come up stories are real. I got at 1.5 gpa my second semester of college. Ended my first degree in biology with a 3.05. Got a BSN with the goal of going to CRNA school. Changed my mind and now I’m a first year in medical school. Point is your past doesn’t have to define you and you just need to play your cards right and have a long term goal/dream. Just put your head down and grind for it a little everyday.
Yeah I love the advice and the perspective. Cool to hear your story and your segue into medicine. The come up is real indeed! I love the "grind a little everyday". Small bites and all!
Thank god my community college did academic forgiveness for returning college students if they havent taken classes in 5 years. Scrubbed all my Fs and Ds from my transcripts greatly improving my gpa. Graduating with my adn / from college 14 years after taking my first class at the college this december. Im a straight A student and college tutor now
Hey nurse bass! Did you have any health care experience before getting into this field. I’m taking nursing school into great consideration as of recent. Thank you for putting out content for us males. I’ll be watching a lot of these!
The only healthcare experience was a PRN job as a CNA in the hospital for less than a year, but that was after I had already committed to Nursing School and the RN path. Before that I had zero experience in this field. I worked as a janitor, a cashier in a grocery store, and I worked in two separate warehouses doing manual labor with pallet jacks and forklifts. It can definitely be done, even with zero prior experience!
Rag I was just looking at my steam or epic friends list just a week or two ago and thought about you and wondered where tf you might be at in life. Hope the ER or whenever you ultimately ended up at is treating you well my friend. Good to see you!
I like your videos! I don't think geology or dance grades are relevant. Grades in chemistry, hopefully you have, or will consider taking organic/biochem also, A&P and physics are relevant. What may be concerning, although I appreciate your tattoos, but some faculty and patients may not. The ultra professional way a CRNA presents himself/herself is important in inspiring the utmost trust in patients. How many physician anesthesiologists do you see with visible tattoos? Maybe you think it shouldn't be a factor. But in reality, it is.
Yeah the tattoos are concerning for me as well if I’m being transparent. However, if I can get my foot in the door I’m sure my competence with patient care will overcome any perceived negative. Of course, I’ll be making every effort to keep them out of sight as to not invoke distrust in my patients because I agree with you.
1st hospital I worked at as a CRNA, the CRNA in charge of education had full sleeve tattoos. But yes, definitely a consideration in getting into school. You never want to decrease your chances. Wearing a full piece suit will also help
forgot CRNA school, you need to be a documentary voice actor. dudes got a golden voice
It’s unreal how often I’m complimented on the voice lol. I just need the opportunity!
Man I can remember watching you back when I was in RN school many years ago. I actually just started CRNA school myself. Good luck on your journey man! You're going to kill it.
That’s so sick. Congrats on getting started! Study, study, study time! Hope it’s all getting off to a great start 👊🏽

Hi Nurse Bass! I am a 65 yr old retiree in a different field but 5 years ago I thought I would get my LVN degree.
How did it go? and what was your previous career?

You have lost a lot of weight compared to your older videos.
Ayeeeee
