Right now I have the Titan Attachments 78" wide ditch/bank flail mower. The cut quality is akin to a residential lawn mower! Yet it cuts biers and weeds 5 to 6 feet high leaving nothing but mulch behind it. Pine tree saplings just disappear! I love this thing, now I want to get a full 7 foot wide one though (78" is 6 1/2 feet for reference). I have chipped slightly 2 of the hammer flails and resharpened them with a grinder they still cut just fine after 2 full seasons of mowing... adjusted my belt tension once, and grease it every day or two when I'm using it with red lithium grease. Mine has the swinging guard plates on the front they suck and some have gotten knocked off and lost unfortunately... chains would be so much better! Also it has a rubber flap over the back of the roller which shredded pretty easily I think some conveyor belt rubber would be much better!
Great vid! But i have to add my 2 cents here My time running commercial flails (light and heavy hammers) hammers flew off like mortars from both striking unseen objects and the pivot bolts wearing thru. Easy and quick to fix, if you or others don't wind up getting struck by the failed parts. Always practice safety folks!
If pivot bolts were wearing thru and breaking then they weren't made of the right metal.... they should NOT do that! When running they don't move that much either.
I think the flail mower is a great investment Tony. I have been trying to convince my younger brother. He has a 40 HP tractor and mows about 5 acres of hillside with a 6' brush hog. He's borrowed my 5' finishing mower a few times but says it ain't big enough. So he's wanting to upgrade a 6' finish mower. I'm sure a 6' Flail mower would be a lot lighter and easier to maneuver than a brush hog.
"technically" you are supposed to replace balanced pairs - from the shot it looks like other than the 2 really damaged ones you picked worn ones not pairs. They are great after storms as you don't have to pick up the branches, leaves, sticks, etc - just mulch the lot and cheaper than blades on the rideon.
I don't think balanced pair exists on this machine. They are all offset from each other, so nothing is directly opposite. I think they should be close, but I am not concerned with a slight difference.
I liked the video and the info. It got me looking to see what it would cost to replace my blades on my 72" rotary mower and from Messicks, the blades are $54.24 a piece. Expensive, but not as high as you had listed in the video which is a good thing. (Part#820-199c for Land Pride rotary mowers)
The price ranges a great deal. I priced Bush Hog name brand replacements at one of my local dealers. The heavy duty name brand blades for a 72" were almost $200. That blew me away. He said, they are having a hard time getting replacements.
Parts and equipment are at crazy high prices nowadays. We use a woods rotary cutter because of the lower cost. Flail mowers sure are great though and do an amazing job. Wish I had one
Not near as expensive to replace my JD MX5 rotary cutter blades as you claim. Also got to consider there is only 2. What 40-50 of them on a flail mower. I just keep my bush hog greased and sharpen blades once in a while. Not much maintenance at all.
Superb piece of kit, looks like it should give great service when it's so thoroughly maintained. Shame there isn't a float function on the tilt remote, though I'm sure one could be engineered.
This is a sort of float. The top link has a long slot to move back and forth on. It give the unit a good bit of flex. Having the hydraulic top link really makes it easy to zero in.
@@TonysTractorAdventure so everyone has a different opinion on where the float position should be on the top link - front, middle, back. can you do a video on that setting with the skid and roller height as well.
We had one of these, a bigger one, at the NC city that I worked for. Great for clearing brush, small limbs and such. We would use it to clear the side of roadways so cars could safely travel on them. Does this require a certain size tractor to mount on? Would say a TYM 125 be big enough? I have banks with briers on them. Lots of briers and plenty of 1-3 inch saplings to get rid of.
I have the Titan Flail mower 155 and love it. I'm having a hard time finding belt replacements for it. Do you have an alternate source or replacement for the belts sold by Titan?
Great video Tony 😁 The hydraulic feature on your flail mower looks very handy. I chopped up a rock with my flail mower and keep thinking it was a branch😂 whoops. It happens. Anyway thanks for the video 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Tony, did you loosen the gearbox mounting bolts on the other side of the gearbox mountings (right hand side of the gearbox looking forward) before adjusting the tension as they also have slotted holes to allow the entire box to slide up?
I did loosen it before, but I got busy and forgot to film that part. I had to come back and show just tighten that up. It is hard to show everything and do it.
Hi Tony... I need to get into my Woodmaxx 62" tomorrow to replace some hammers that took on some heavy duty rocks toward the end of last year. I saw the discussion below about balance. Have you ever replaced a broken blade with a new one adjacent to others that are significantly worn but still functional and created a balance issue? I know the one time I busted a hammer clean off (1/3 of the hammer and busted the bolt) I was almost shook out of my seat with a full hammer missing... but I put the same one back on with a new bolt since it's all I had and she still ran pretty smooth. Any experiences you can share regarding an imbalance situation? Thanks.
I have replaced one blade before. The others had some wear and small chips, but it was fine. Replace one and run it up. If it is too much out of balance, you will know soon enough.
How do you set your turn buckles on 3 point hitch. Tight or loose? I don't know if my off set flail mower did it or my tiller but I bent where my pin goes threw for backhoe. Thanks for your time.
@@TonysTractorAdventure k thought it should be tight but they may not have been at time. Thanks hitting the roof bolts tilling may have been the problem I call them wv roots.
Tony there was some rust (it happens) on the lower pulleys. Do you feel that “something “ should have been put on them before the unit was stored, if so what would you recommend? Happens on mower deck pulleys all the time.
@@TonysTractorAdventureAgreed, was just wondering if it concerned you and if so what you would use to prevent rust. I know if it gets really bad it is hard on the belts. Takes awhile to polish the pulleys up. So far has not been an issue for me. Thanks for your input. Stan Not going to oil it up but ? spray paint?
Getting ready to start my second season of mowing with Titan 65" ditch bank flail and I totally agree with you! I enjoy it allot!

You bet!
Great Flail mower maintenance and overview video Tony. Enjoyed as always.
Glad you enjoyed it

I have never had one come out. Newer flail mowers are not as open as the older ones. I guess there is good and bad in that.
If pivot bolts were wearing thru and breaking then they weren't made of the right metal.... they should NOT do that! When running they don't move that much either.
Bravo Zulu Tony - like how you explain mechanical maintenance, shows the years of experience in the profession.
Thank you my friend.
Great vid! My Del Morino 62 is on the way, can’t wait! 🙂👍. It will get a ton of use
Hope you enjoy it!

Great video. I just purchased a flail in Pa. and am excited to try it when it dries out!!! 🤣🤣

This unit is set up of offset mowing. Other than the slot on top, there is little adjustment. It is a compromise with it being offset.
Well hello Tony it's been awhile since I passed through the neighborhood I thought I would stop by and say hello see how you're doing watch a video
Welcome back. We are still at it. We are building our new homestead one stick and mowing at a time.
I bought the IBEX/Del Morino ditch bank flail. Still trying to get the height adjustment down.
There is an art to it. The hydraulic top link helps.
Good video
Awesome advice and as always doing a great job Tony! 👍
Rule 1. Don't mow concrete

We hope to cut in several miles of trails this summer.
I don't think a person can get full use out of the Brush Tiger on a T25. We used it on the T474 and it does great.
I have the Titan Flail mower 155 and love it. I'm having a hard time finding belt replacements for it. Do you have an alternate source or replacement for the belts sold by Titan?
I always buy hammers in the office season.
I like to use a straight edge to square up belt drives. Will it hurt being off a little. IMO no. Those bearings are pretty tuff.
I don't disagree with you. I appreciate your comments.
After having to drop the stump jumper off my rotary cutter, I want a flail mower too!
I have had great results with this Flail Mower. I ordered a bigger standard flail mower for the other tractor.
would you get a longer service life out of your flail hammers by building them up with Stellite?
I doubt it would be cost effect. The hammers last a long time unless I hit concrete.
Thank you for the video. Tony I have rocky soil have used a 72” finish mower cut a 6” height do you think the flail would be ok?
If you cut it above the rocks. 😇 Rocks kill all mowers . I am blessed to live in a rock free area.
Great video Tony 😁 The hydraulic feature on your flail mower looks very handy. I chopped up a rock with my flail mower and keep thinking it was a branch😂 whoops. It happens. Anyway thanks for the video 😁👍🚜💨🍳
Right on! This is a newer video where I change out a blade or two. I am still very pleased with this mower.

Do flail mowers have the option of shear pins or slip clutches, or doesn't this apply since the flails move out of the way if they hit something?
Mine has a slip clutch, plus belts, plus the hammers rotate out of the way.
Would you recommend flail mowers to do finish mower work? I like to mow my yard at 4 in. high.
A flail mower cuts well, but it will never cut as smoothly as a finish mower. How smooth you want your yard will be the deciding factor.

I'd like to know where you got your hammers so cheap. I looked for my 4ft mower and they were between 15 and 20 each
Notice the date on the video.
Can you tell me where you are buying the replacement hammers? The ones I’m finding are nearly $50 each.
I buy them from Titan Attachments. They have gone up a bit, but they are in a five-pack.
@@TonysTractorAdventure I can’t seem to find their website, do you have any info on that?

Très bien le broyeur d'accotement.
Il faut que je m'en achète un.
Bonne continuation et papate au chien 🐕

I was not concerned. Dirt, debre, dust, sand will get thrown into the belts. I think it is just part of it. It will shine back up after one use.

What size tractor are you using?
T25 buy TYM tractors.
Penetrating oil is not for lubrication
Well great! I am glad you got something out of the video.
I like your videos but for years I’ve seen people push WD40 as a lubricant and it’s not. I also used it that way until someone told me the truth 😀😀
