There is a relatively ancient recording of John Lee Hooker with nothing but John, his acoustic guitar, and the leather soles of his shoes on a wooden plank floor. The words to one tune were something like Mama and Daddy talking about this boy's skills, and Daddy said "It's in him, and it's got to come out." They were prolly share-croppers in southwest Mississippi or its equivalent in the first half of the 20th Century. John had talent, Daddy recognized it, and said to Mama, he's 12 or 14 or 16 -- we gotta let him go, because there is NO keeping him here. John Lee Hooker hung the moon for me. He is, IMHO, the unsung hero of The Blues in the age of electricity and of recording. He 's in the movie The Blues Brothers, btw, as were a number of other kings and queens.
At 5:10 - JLHooker definitely had the gift-of-gab, meaning that he could take a small bowl of small notions and turn it into wonderful lyrics. A rare gift, and for what it's worth, I was married to a woman with the same gift, and her brother lives today with the gift in spades. Dr. Feelgood is the small-time band, and they're making old folks dance in and around Montgomery, Alabama as we speak.
Two (2) things tonight, yo. 1) John Lee Hooker joining Bonnie Raitt in the 1990's, she of the smoky voice and red mane. Bonnie in particular reduces me to a sobbing blob of Jim with the memories invoked of my dead ex. I digress. 2) Speaking of last night's comments on sharecroppers, please, if you don't already, learn to "read for pleasure." John Grisham, of the lawyer-story fame, stepped out a number of times. One such, "A Painted House," which is an ode to share-croppers, baseball, and the Great Depression of the 1930's. 3) Sight After Dark thanks Jim later. Then they read "Playing for Pizza."
This was 1989. The album was full of stars collaborating with him. Bonnie Raitt, Robert Cray, Canned Heat and George Thorogood to name a few. I guess there was a queue to be on that album. Hope Dan was ok without a lyric video 😜 Good song, good reaction 🙂
Can't believe she has never heard of Johnnie Lee Hooker or Carlos Santana. Johnnie Lee is probably one of the best blues man ever. And what else can i say about Carlos rated as one of the best guitarists ever.

I like the song Chill Out( things gonna get better) by John Lee & Carlos, It Grooves Hard. Timeless

Uh... It was a Sifa "joke" that was underscored for us by Dan's response.
