    Carlos has such a distinctive sound, it's so full of soul. Could pick it out any day of the week. Absolutely wonderful. The latin/african influence is always there, to, so different from much of the music from back in this period that it's a class all of it's own.

    Carlos Santana was about 23 when he played this at Woodstock, he is a Master Guitarist. The song would be nothing without the music and that’s why we only associate this song with Carlos Santana. This song is a work of art, true art not trendy pop . it will be still played in 100 - 200 years from now. That is the difference between pop stars in true artists.

    Greg Rolie was the original vocalist and organist for Santana starting in 1969. Neil Schon was also a member from 1971, joining at age 17. They both left the band in 1973 and were the founders of what would become Journey. This is real music. No auto-tune. No pitch correction. Only insane musical skill. This is the way music is meant to be heard, felt, and experienced.

    Carlos Santana is one of three guitarists who, to me, really make their guitars sing in a way no one else does. Carlos does it here, David Gilmour does it in Comfortably Numb, and Mark Knopffler does is in, well, everything, but nowhere as heartbreakingly beautifully as in Brothers in Arms. Back to Santana, though -- you will really go crazy watching their video of Soul Sacrifice, live at Woodstock (1969). Every member of the band is fully a part of this thrilling musical conversation.

    Also, Santana is one of the few artists to chart in EVERY decade since the 60’s! 😳 69 - Evil Ways, 70’s - Black Magic Woman & Oye Como Va, 80’s - Hold On & Winning, 90’s - Smooth & Maria Maria, 00’s - Game of Love, 10’s- Photograph & La Flaca.

      Great list, but I think you left off Winning from the 80s. Checked, yep, Winning peaked at #17 of BB Hot 100.

      @baimun 27 днів тому

      @ I’ve seen the Stones live several times… but I was thinking they took a break from releasing new albums for a while. I’ll have to Wiki their discography along with Aerosmith. Edit: I forgot about the Blues album they did in 2016. That was the missing decade in my mind. And no on Aerosmith. Their first album was 73 and they haven’t charted an album in the past 10.

    You're right about the artwork back in the sixties and seventies and early 80s artwork on a album cover was a thing❤❤❤❤❤

    Another classic song (and album) from the early 70s, when rock n roll creativity was peaking. Like so much rock and soul from that era, there was so much creativity and artistry in the music of that era, and the jams often made these songs so great.

    Greg Rolle is the original lead singer for the band. He is the organist that you saw on "Soul Sacrifice". He left the band a few years later and co-founded the band Journey. Carlos used to sing backing vocals, but I don't believe he has done that in years.

      The song itself was written by Peter Green of and performed by the original lineup of Fleetwood Mac (pre Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham)

      Agreed. I think he has sung lead on a few songs, but none from this era.

    Gregg Rolie was in the band with Carlos Santana. He sang on that recording. Later on, Greg and another guy from that band ended up forming Journey. Carlos Santana makes his guitar emote in ways I have not heard duplicated in quite that way. Mark Knopfler also makes his guitar cry and sing, though they have different styles. Still... hearing either of them sends me into instant happiness and satisfaction.

    I was in High School when this came out. I was on our Pom Pom dance squad and we did a routine to this - we sucked, but the music was good...LOL!!!! Man, this brings back a lot of memories! Greg Rolie did a great job singing this....of course the instrumentation was super hip then, and hey - surprise - it still is!!!

    Greg Rollie sang the vocals on Black Magic Woman. He was the original keyboardist for Journey who left shortly after Steve Perry joined the band. Journey guitarist Neal Schon also was in Santana before leaving with Rollie to form Journey. Rollie and Perry split vocals on Journey’s “Same Way You Love Me” and a few others before Rollie moved on and Journey hit it big.

    • @ruthlafler5622
      @ruthlafler5622 27 днів тому

      Rolie and Perry were on three albums together (four, if you count "Dream, After Dream," which was not widely distributed), so not "shortly after." Rolie was phased out of vocals, though, and mostly played keyboards. But yeah, Journey with Rolie had some minor hits but didn't hit big until after Rolie left.

    On 15 April 2016, Santana released Santana IV, the wildly anticipated studio album that reunited the early 1970s classic lineup of Carlos Santana (guitar, vocals), Gregg Rolie (keyboards, lead vocals), Neal Schon (guitar, vocals), Michael Carabello (percussion) and Michael Shrieve (drums).
