Just an idea.....Put your special fabric in a picture frame and then use the rest for a special quilt that ends up as the "one" you use all the time. You will always feel extra special when you use the quilt. I always make a quilt that uses a big block for my "focus" fabric.
Hi Patty, another fun, informative video :) I considered the foam board too, but I decided to double up on the comic boards in some cases of thicker, heavier, or just larger pieces of fabric.
I would like to see all of the ways you store everything. I haven’t tried the Comic Boards. I’m not sure my storage pieces would work, but I’m willing to give it a try.
it depends on how much yardage you have in one cut. I've wrapped up to 5 yards, but it's really too much on one board. 1 to 3 yards work best. I'm getting a couple of blog posts done and videos that go with them right now, but when those are complete I'll get back over to fabric storage. It's frankly not all that well done, but it might be helpful to see something realistic.
I adopted the comic book method last year and it does help with being able to 'see' what fabrics i do have! However, I still buy more fabric than i do space!! Lol... i would love to see how you store your jellyrolls and pre-cuts! Seems like i cannot find a good way to store them. (I think my hobby is buying fabric other than sewing!! I'm in the process of brainstorming some new ways of storing my fabrics as well as how to track how much yardage of each fabric I have. The comic board method has sprouted a few seeds. I'm horrible at record keeping so I only have a vague idea of what I have.....which is why they scrap storage sewing so many scrappy blocks is blowing my mind! But I would be happy to show the other parts of what's in here. I'm actually wanting to use up a drawer of scraps so I can spread out my ruby star collection a little more. I have way too much crammed into one drawer! But what a fun drawer it is!

Oh do NOT feel bad!! My leftovers are a mess. I decided to start cutting and sewing my bigger scraps because I had started to collect more than I realized. So far I've make 20 16" scrappy blocks and I'm just getting started! I'm going to cut and sew on them for another week and then I'm putting it away for a while to get on with other projects that I have planned. But I'm planning to make at least 4 or 5 new blocks every week until I have used all those larger scraps and leftovers. And then see where things are this summer.

I have one tall bookcase with the fabrics stored the same as yours, mostly by color except for some silks that are separated and covered up a bit more for light protection. Love this method. Everything I have is visible and reminds me that I need to go here to shop first!
I love storing my fabrics like this!! And yes, shopping here first is my method as well! I made my no spend on fabric through January no problem!! And since I've discovered my scrap piles make the cutes blocks I'm really digging into the scrap bin now. I'm so surprised by how far it's going. It didn't seem like I had very much, but so far I have 18 - 16" blocks and I probably have enough to do that much 3 or 4 times over!! So I'm going to keep sewing them through the summer probably and then figure out quilts to put together.
I missed it live, daughter came for dinner, watching now. Love this idea, but I store mine folded by size and color on the billy shelves. I got most of my fabric from 2 estate sales and I have been using that for several years! I only supplement when I need a color. All that to say, I have hundreds of yards of fabric mostly in 1/2-2yd cuts and tons of fat quarters. So it would take gobs and gobs of boards. But stacked and folded neatly on shelves works really well for me, since I can open the door and see everything at once! Needless to say, most of my quilts are very scrappy, and really have zero branded fabric.

Thanks for that feedback!! I will definitely go ahead with showing the rest of my set up. While my room is larger, my storage is really limited. I took over the living room of the house for sewing, because it has the best lighting and it's easier for me to make videos and work in here. But it's a very open room so I have just about no wall space and very little room for positioning cupboards and shelves. I'll plan to go through and show the rest of my fabric and how I keep everything. I'm definitely NOT a good organizer, but I do have a lot in a small space. I can definitely recommend Ikea furniture products. They've helped me a great deal to get my items under control.
you can put the thing that you can put on book shelf on the side of the books not to fall over or not to bend over most of the time it comes in set of 2 (2 side of the shelf) .
Would also love to see how you store your other fabrics. I have way too much and need to become a faster piecer and quilter. My sewing space is the dining room table and I do have a tall cabinet where I store my yardage on the top shelf on comic book boards. I’ve noticed the curvature too and have been wondering about maybe doubling the boards to see if that would help. I also sort by color but also by yardage amount. Do you use any sort of clip to hold the fabric on the boards? Fabric storage/project bins have taken over my bedroom closet, etc. and I need to get it under control.
I did switch to using plastic alligator clips and I should have mentioned that. I think I'm going to do a followup video on the boards and show all of that and go into more detail about why I like the method so much. As far as storage goes, I would be happy to show what else I have going in here! I've also adopted a no spend challenge for myself in terms of fabrics for at least 3 months but I'm aiming for 6. I recently started sewing through my scraps and that's been an absolute revelation! I would first say, to stop any new purchases. Be content with what you have. Unsubscribe from shop emails if you have to. I did that and it is helpful. But honestly, setting the resolve to not spend is the most helpful thing. I did allow rotary blades on sale and quilt batting on a crazy good sale, but absolutely no new fabrics for a minimum of 90 days and see what I can use up.
@@PattymacMakes I’m trying. Cancelled a subscription and not signing up for anymore block of the months or puzzle mystery quilts. Also really just try to buy backing fabric when necessary. It’s hard but besides space the money isn’t there either. Buying groceries is hard enough and like you I watch for sales.
@@angelastoutenger7944 yeah, I don't do any subscriptions now either. I find that I prefer to pick out my own patterns and prints and colors. I have people approach me frequently about receiving monthly boxes and so on, and I turn them all down. If I don't really like it for myself personally, I don't want to present it here. After beginning the exercise of cutting and sewing scraps and seeing how far all of that goes, I can honestly say I have enough!! And yeah, keeping my fresh food stocked up and paying off some debts is all I can pay these days.

People love them or hate them, but I personally like them. I think it's something you have to try for yourself to really decide.
