ELTON JOHN Sixty years on REACTION

I'm so glad that you did this song! It's highly underrated and overlooked, but I love it.
Pre fab Elton, young and just getting to be the legend he would become. His vocal phrasing and intonation is unmistakably Elton, whether young or older. But it is the harp that mesmerizes me. I wish it was used more often.
Neal, these great songs from EJ’s early 70’s albums were simply magical. Fantastic choice! Thanks Harri and Neal🌺✌️
Thank you, Debbie!
The early collaborations with Elton John and Bernie Taupin were simply brilliant.
Your bang on, agree 100%, he reached a peak with Yellow brick road, after that, the quality just tailed off a bit.
Elton John won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London at age 11, and studied there on Saturdays for five years, learning to play Frederic Chopin and Johann Sebastian Bach, among others. He grew up loving many genres of music, but because of the Royal Academy, has a special fondness for classical music. That is why so many of his songs have an orchestra.
That's what his early work was like, quite different from his later work, and when Bernie Taupin and he were in close collabration.
" No man's a jester playing Shakespeare, around your throne room floor; while the juggler's act is danced upon, the crown that you once wore..."
I was a young teenager when this album came out, so very different than the British wave stuff that we were hearing in America. It was an amazing collaboration, he and Bernie.
This program has really captured my heart!!!! Fantastic!!!!!!
Thank you, Harri. When I was in elementary school I would get home from school before my older sisters would and I would go in their bedroom and listen to their albums. They had the album "Elton John" and "Sixty Years On" is on it. It, along with "Your Song", was one of the very first Elton John songs I ever listened to. I was hoping you could play the studio version that I requested but it was evidently blocked. I enjoyed your reaction to this EJ classic -- thanks again!
I did the same when I was little. I was hooked on Neil Young, After the Gold Rush. I love this Elton song and I don't think I've ever heard it before, TY & TY Harri 💞
🤩🤩🤩
@@anidiquaojala1804You're welcome!
It was blocked.I had the option of waiting 28 days after appeal, but i thought you might like a live version instead...Oops! 😁
@@anidiquaojala1804You're welcome!
Love Elton John ,he is such genious.Amazing songs .been a fan since 1973 .😻😻
A very beautiful song and different style for Elton. Well chosen pncombies. 👍👍👍
Thank you, Imadrummin!
Thanks for the reaction Harri and excellent choice Neal.
@clint6872 Thank you, brother! 👊
A brilliantly orchestrated and produced tune that brings out all the emotions. This was Bernie and Elton maturing quickly on this early album .
Just as good. The Greatest Discovery!
Masterpiece here love you
HE WAS JUST 24 HARRI😊THIS COMES OFF OF HIS 2ND ALBUM ( ELTON JOHN ) 😊
In my top three of favourite EJ songs.
For Elton this was a very orchestral in execution. The first verse covered by the string section, which crescendos into a bed of strings, joined by the beautiful harp as the lyrics discuss the process of joining the aging society. An organ joins the third verse and rounds out this beautiful song. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Neal. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada. 🇨🇦
My pleasure, Mary...thank you!
Oh boy Harri, did you ever pull a jewel! My boyhood musical hero, takes me back to my teen years!!! This is an incredible song!!!!!!!!
"Ahem!" It takes two to tango! 😎
@@pncombies, sorry about that! Fantastic choice! I just have a bad habit of getting really excited seeing a song like this chosen and I react before Harri is able to give acknowledgment-my bad!
@@DJBilodeauDon't take me seriously! 😝 Thank you for stopping by! 👊
Not the exact studio recording but pretty damn near close. Exact same musicians including all the classical musicians. I think this concert was done in front of record company execs to promote the album. The album got the attention of Three Dog Night, who recorded Your Song and Lady Samantha, and Aretha Franklin who recorded "Border Song". This album did not become a hit until Elton and his band came to Los Angeles to play in front of a club full of celebrities and then his music was celebrated all over the music industry and started a U.S. tour of mostly college campuses. Then the album got airplay on FM radio and became a big big hit. This was the beginning of it all.
I selected the studio version but it was blocked and Harri would have had to appeal YT's decision and wait 28 days. He chose this live version as a replacement.
So very beautifull ❤ Thank you Neal for sharing this wonderfull memory 💖
Have never heard this before 🤔 It calls for a revisit 🤩
Thank you Harri great reaction
You're welcome, Agnete -- glad you approve! 😎
@@pncombies Very much so 🌟🤩👍
How did I miss this one. I love Elton and this is a great song. Thank you Neal I saw your comment about Your Song and it was one of my first and faves. Thank you Harri.
Cynthia - You're welcome! There's a couple more classics off this album I would like to share. This one reminds me of my oldest sister who passed away in '97. It's hauntingly beautiful.
Such a well-written song and sung to perfection
Elton John did put out some good music
That's one of my favorite songs by Elton, especially since I turned 60 last October.
this is from 1970, not 1971. Skaila Kanga (harp player) gave an interview on an Elton John podcast. Just google this: Episode 37 - 'Elton John' at 50 (Part 2) with John Higgins and Skaila Kanga

I just listened to it the other night. I also downloaded it onto my computer as there is a download option. they go into minute detail. ❤
Have a listen to Michelle Branch's voice along with her strumming guitar. It's even better IMO.
Sorry it took so long for you to hear this. Brilliant isn't it. Listen to the lyrics to The Greatest Discovery.
Another beautiful, lesser known Elton John song is "Where To Now Saint Peter?"
Adore this track. Shows Elton before pop stardom. Fantastic.
Please do Border Song from the same show. The last verse is perfect.
Check out the version from 17-11-70!
His first 2 albums are his finest work.
Thanks!
o no, not this live version 😂this is the studio version played live. Elton has a live version of this song only with Nigel and Dee and Elton with his piano 🥴 check this ua-cam.com/video/rRngmF-AcFQ/v-deo.html
I selected the studio version with my other January selections. It was evidently blocked because Harri replaced it with this version.
