damn skippy- i was a junior in high school when this stuff was coming out. i had to say VAN HALEN-YEAH! UFO-YEAH! to my amigos- but this was (and remains) my guilty pleasure. They sing like birds, and are virtuosos. They deserve ALL the notoriety and cash. long live the rubinoos!
Love these guys and play them on my show whenever I can. I was turned onto them when I was 12 by a friend of my uncles that forced me to buy their albums, along with Earthquake. He wasn't wrong, just a great band. Mike UC Radio
They were good! I just remembered the name when I was looking for the Rubettes' Sugar Baby Love. This band reminds me in a way of the Greg Kihn band, also good, and yet without that star quality. I'm listening to more good bands now instead of starry ones.
We Did gigs with them at "The Stone" and Mabuhay Gardens. There was a great underground of Punk Pop that they kind of spearheaded. My two bands Alex the Kat and The Donuts were part of it also.
Brill vid! Does anyone remember them doing 'I think we're alone now' before Tiffany got her hands on it? And does anyone have them performing it? Good band at the time - them and The Knack!!
@kenisurfer I have that concert on CD and they were really brilliant that night. But I don't understand why no one posts any of the great songs from their 1st album except "Rock and Roll Is Dead".
I remember your dad. How's he doing? He was a very decent player and could sing great harmony. I used to see the group at the Keystone Palo Alto and the Old Waldorf in SF. My neighbor (Kim) had a big crush on Royse.
I wonder if this entire show is available somewhere? A good buddy of mine who used to see the Rubinoos in the '70s told he saw them play a Halloween deal... and that Royce was dressed-up as a girl... and that he looked kinda hot. He's in therapy.

These guys were almost as great as the Raspberries at doing power pop. Thanks for posting this!

I use to do gigs with these guys.
They were SO Good...
I wish there was one band these days who play and sound as pure as these guys.
@smokeemonkee Totally agree I had 2 albums and they were sensational. Never got to see them live so this is a real treat
love them since 77 still going!
Loved these guys then, love them now!! Now, if only an East Coast gig would happen before I croak :-)

I look ca. 30 years for THIS SONG! But I'm not sure if it's the
original
Wow, oh Wow, I'm back at the Old Waldorf in SF or Longbrach. Where is Royce now days?
@alexandraroyse Coolest dad ever ... I'm jealous
Did the rubinoos made this song or was it some other artist?
it was written in 1933 and has been recorded many, many times.
Such a shame that I'm a guy. And that I wasn't born.
Not anywhere near as classy as P J Proby's original restructuring of this 40s song.He made it in the style of the Beatles
