      Do you have a specific tool set that you recommend? Also are you carving on bass wood? (Not sure of the spelling)

      Beyond amazing by the way, I would love to be able to make something like this one day, I'm just starting learning to carve soon though so I have a ways to go.

      @@jeffjohnson5908 Hey I'm really sorry for the late response.. I missed your comment some how! Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words. As far as tools go, really anything thats quality will do the trick. I'd recommend Pfeil because that's what I bought when I first started and I haven't changed or used anything else. This particular carving is basswood, but I've been carving white pine recently which I find carves similar to basswood.

      How do you get nice smooth edges? I always have little wood bits every where.

    • @ChiseledOutdoorsCC

      @@bobet4939 Hey, the couple things you can do to make sure you get smooth edges is making sure your gouges are sharp and to make sure you're carving with the grain. Another thing I'll do is sand the area to get the result I'm looking for. Sanding is good for carvers that might not have all the desired gouges to get the job done. Instead of fighting the area with a gouge that isn't meant for it, touch up the spot with some sanding. I hope this answers your question.

    Definitely enjoyed the process of watching you work. I've only done power carving with my Dremel so far. Gonna go check out your channel next.

    What kind of stain and other finish do you use, and do you use the stain to accentuate the shadow areas at all? Thanks!

    • @ChiseledOutdoorsCC
      @ChiseledOutdoorsCC  2 роки тому +1

      I use a mixture of mineral spirits and stain to get the color I’m looking for. I don’t usually spot stain in the cracks to emphasize the shadows and depth. I personally like to leave it as is and let the depth of the carving show the shadows on its own.

    How could one carve into something and make a perfectly flat background? Like what's behind the trees here.

    • @ChiseledOutdoorsCC
      @ChiseledOutdoorsCC  6 років тому +1

      The easiest way would probably be to use a router to lower the background and have it look nice and flat. The way I did it in the video is carve it by hand the best that I could, then I'd use my Dremel with a circular diamond burr attachment that has a flat end. I'd then position the Dremel as perfectly vertical as I could and use the flat end of the attachment to finish it off. Almost like a rotary sander, but I'm using a dremel attachment instead.

    What kinda wood and where do you get it to create these beautiful pieces?

    • @ChiseledOutdoorsCC
      @ChiseledOutdoorsCC  5 років тому +1

      I use to get the wood from rocker.com. I get it locally now from saw mill not far from my house.

      Yeah I couldn't remember if it was you I'd asked before. I looked into rockler and nothing in that size was available. Gonna start searching locally.

    • @ChiseledOutdoorsCC
      @ChiseledOutdoorsCC  5 років тому

      The pieces rockler provides are smaller so you have to glue several pieces together to get the size you need.
