Hey Dustin. I am watching this video May 2021 and have a sigma 16mm f1.4 along with a Sony a6400 purchased Feb 2021. I do seem to have good control with the manual focus so I guess the later production models would have been updated prior to leaving the factory. I am seriously considering the Sigma 30mm and it is nice to know these lenses are updatable going forward. I have subscribed to you today. Peter.

Hey Dustin, i just bought myself a sony a6000. i got the sel1650 and 55210. Now... there had to be lens with f1.8 or something. I crossed the Sony 35f18 and i almost bought it! now... since i saw all the sigma videos in comparison... i will buy the sigma. The only issues i saw were the blur at f2 and the manual focussing. Well.. now i have seen your video and its punshing out the focus issue that really kept me awake at night... thanks man!

I was thinking about the sigma 18-35mm + mc11 adapter but I don't know if it would still convert the same quality by using the adapter. Hey Jonathon, I don't shoot sports too much so I couldn't give an accurate comparison from experience, but the AF speed in general seems very similar between the Sony and Sigma. The Sigma does support Eye AF and does it well.
It is not working for me. I removed the SD card, connect it with the USB, change the setting to mass storage and yet it's not working. I have the Sony a6000 with the lens.
Bro i dont know why its not working good in auto focus. I mean i have used sony kit lens but i was not expecting such slow and bad auto focusing with sigma 30mm 1.4... Its lagging and going in and out
I just updated the firmware on my SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC DN (Sony E Mount) and the lens started having issues with the AF hunting too much. I'm using my old and cheap Sony A3000 and the lens doesn't do well after the firmware upgrade. Please tell me how to downgrade and revert back to the original (old) firmware.

Thanks! I have the 12mm Rokinon and the Sigma 16mm. I will probably sell the Rokinon 12mm eventually. I really appreciate the extra light the Sigma allows through. For instance, I can shoot at ISO 1600 on the Sigma for night photography where I would have to shoot at 3200 ISO on the Rokinon. I also like the color rendition of the 16mm Sigma better.
You already have a great lens combo. I'd keep the Rokinon 12mm and the Sigma 30mm. Better save the money or buy something else you really need like a tripod, a camera bag or a telephoto lens if you are into wildlife or sport photography.
The update claims there is, but I never had any issues with low light focusing in particular in the older firmware, so that wasn't something I really honed in on.
@@daceuro how is the autofocus compared to the Sony 35mm f/1.8 ? This is the only issue holding me back from buying it. Would greatly appreciate your input.

Great video. I haven't bought this lens yet and when I talk to a few agents at B&H, they told me that to go with the native lens instead. They said this lens will hunt in dim light situation. Is that correct? Can anyone comment on that?
Danny D yes I own it and it does hunt in low light or less warm temperatures. I used it often but had to get a better lens because I love low light photography or filming. Unfortunately it produces a great quality content but you must have some light available

it's a prime lens with fixed focus. so no zooming, althought you can use clear image zoom feature on your sony body but that's just cropping from the bigger image

I noticed that most people who own A6000 and A6300 are the ones seeking your advice. I own an A6500. I'm new to photography. I enjoy traveling so I purchased an A6500, basically because of its size and built in stabilization. I'm not looking too break the bank on expensive lenses. I'd rather use the money on airfare. I shoot images more than video. But I would like shoot more videos (not for video blogging). Let me know your thoughts. Thanks for your time. By the way I leave to Japan on May 1, 2018. Life Stinks Great question. The update will resolve issues with MF on the lens regardless of what camera body it’s attached to. With the fix I would consider it a must have lens for any a6000 series camera, including the a6500.

I do alot of gimble work day and night and i want to know if you would you use the sigma 30mm and the kit lenss vs the 18-105 G-lens on a gimble ??? i want to sell my 105 G lens because it SUCKS in low light ! ..i do film alot at night and i cant afford the 10-18 sony...eventully i will get the 16mm sony ...i think it will be weird after all i got the Sony a6500 for the killer Sony emount lenses and i will then have ALL sigma, go figure...i will miss that power zoom,BUT i never really use it on usebale shots,its just FUN...so can you help me out with the first question ?
I totally understand what you mean. I keep the 18-105 around but it's not a lens that gives me any particularly good feelings. It's a workhorse. Haven't used the 30mm Sigma on a gimbal yet, but with proper balancing it should take smooth footage and it's a good focal length for a lot of gimbal work.
Dustin Dilworth for sleet vlogging does the 30mm make noticeable difference with over the 35mm for being too tight on your face ? And the clear Image zoom works with the sigma as well correct to get even more depth if zoom

*Update: The problem was that my computer wasn't able to recognize my camera in the first place, so I used a different USB cable and solved that! For some reason my Sony cable didn't do the trick. Thanks for trying to help me, I really appreciate it :)

Debating on the 30mm or 16mm sigma lens for my Sony a6500. Any advice going to use it for photography. Are the colors the same for these lenses?
timothy Alvarado 16mm mainly for landscape and street photography. 30mm for all around use. If I have to choose one, I would take 30mm

Hi, what is bad against sigma with sony 35mm? less weight, sharp is almost identical, oss+faster autofocus...

me too, my auto focus on video will make a constant ticking noise and then keeps pulsing in and out of focus! please help
Just use an exteral directional mic and you ll stop noticing the noise!

That's the manual focus assist at work, it switches on focus magnification for you, that's why it crops or magnifies

Yes, the update is to the lens, so it should improve MF on the a6000 as well.
didn't work on mac with High Sierra, but worked on macOS 10.12
