  • This massive swell combined with a low tide made it possible to take off on first break (way outside canoes) and connect the ride all the way in to the normal canoes line up

    It’s crazy how soooo many tourist pre beginners think they can only paddle half way out, and when the wave comes it should just pick them up and they will be SURFING.
    You have to actually work at catching the wave people! Then weave between the
    “bouys.”

    • @meegssan5716
      @meegssan5716 2 роки тому +1

      True i see your point. But the inside on this day was the best spot at this time of day and location if you could surf thru the crowd. There was a sandbar on the inside and the waits were not as long as sitting on the outside unless you went surfing on the outside around 5pm when the swell peaked

    How in the world would a beginner surfer dip and dodge all those other people? Are collisions frequent?

    • @_aidan_b
      @_aidan_b  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I'm sure there's some collisions but on a big day most of the true beginners can't make it out past the whitewater, so generally the people out there know how to dodge to some degree. Things usually work out.

    How did it compare to other big south swells? Also how big was that face at 0:20? Seeing visible size on a GoPro at Canoes is impressive.

    • @_aidan_b
      @_aidan_b  2 роки тому +4

      This was actually the smallest wave I got at canoes yesterday (although probably the cleanest). This wave was probably around 6-7 foot face, but the biggest ones were about 12-15+, especially at publics. I'm still editing the full video where I went to publics and queens as well. This is definitely the biggest of the season and bigger than the Aipa swell last year, and a lot of people are saying it is the biggest since 1997.

    • @howzt
      @howzt 2 роки тому

      Are you kidding? This swell was historic. It had over 20 ft + in some places. That wave was like 3-4 ft AT BEST.

    • @_aidan_b
      @_aidan_b  2 роки тому

      @@howzt Yeah 3-4ft Hawaiian, probably 6-7 face.

    • @howzt
      @howzt 2 роки тому +1

      @@_aidan_b NOOOO WAY, maybe for YOU that was a 6-7 ft. face. He had to pump that board like it was a dying fish. That was barely a 3-4 ft face. Did you see the little white water crumbling in the back? With a long board like that on a 6-7 ft face, that thing would not have even needed to barely paddle. He was paddling for his life.

    • @_aidan_b
      @_aidan_b  2 роки тому

      @@howzt Were you out there that day? The waves are super hard to get into, people were barely catching them out the back at canoes. You have to paddle really hard to get into them, and then they back off and you have to pump to ensure you can make the section. When halfway through yeah it's 3 ft, maybe even less but when I dropped it it's easily overhead.
