Spring 2023 DVD Haul part 1

I'm back with some pickups! Looks like this Haul is going to be 4 Dvd parts and a couple of Blu rays hauls. I will try to get these uploaded as soon as possible after each on goes online. The Blu Rays will be after all of the DVDs, I picked up a lot of interesting older (and some new) anime.

I love the opening to Queen Emeraldas. I liked this OVA quite abit if only because it was all Emeraldas. It's a shame we never got the full version of the OVA with the other two episodes. Would also love to see this on Blu Ray one day. Discotek have mentioned that most of the Leijiverse OVAs from this period are in "licensing hell" but that new law coming into effect in Japan that Brady mentioned in their last stream gives me hope for the future.
Harlock Space Pirate is honestly totally fine. The CG animation is hella impressive and I personally love some of the designs in this, especially Miime's. I think Matsumoto must of approved as well since that design was carried over into the more recent Harlock Manga that he supervised. But yeah the CG is pretty great, like there are battle scenes in this with the Arcadia that blew me away. The story is very Square Enix in my mind, idk it just gave me that vibe for some reason lol. Probably just because the villian looks like a Square Enix character in design. Anyway yeah it's a decent film and totally worth $1 lol
Oh I remember wanting the volumes of Cosmo Warrior Zero and Gun Frontier so much once upon a time and even little bit now for the extra artwork. Ultimately I got the Anime Works complete collection sets for both in the end. Though I double dipped on Cosmo Warrior Zero and got the Discotek DVD to save space on the shelf, I got a 6 way case and doubled up the Anime Works discs into that set since they have better bitrate...I'm such a nerd. Interesting tidbit though there is a special included on the Anime Works release called Cosmo Warrior Zero: Marina's Special which didn't make it onto the Discotek release. Though honestly I think it might've been created by Media Blasters themselves, most anime tracking databases don't even feature it. Anime-Planet does though that was because I requested it lol.
Still not watched Submarine Super 99 myself, well outside of the first episode at least. I feel bad about it especially since personally I really like submarine drama's, I often find them super tense so I'm hoping I can find the show decent. Not surprised to hear it might underwhelming though, it was the only leijiverse title not picked up for an english release at the time for a reason most likely.
Ooo Ooo I LOVED Silent Service haha! It is indeed bonkers, the ending especially but I was gripped by it throughout. I cannot remember if I watched it dub or sub but I liked that movie quite abit lol...ngl submarine night sounds pretty awesome haha

I really enjoyed the YUA Movie, it reminds of the first Patlabor Film alot. Also I spotted alittle easter egg in this film which is fun, when Miyuki pop's down a box of parts on the tabe somewhat early in the film (like first 15 minutes I think) there is a Nintendo Power Glove for some reason included in it to the left lol
Favourite leijiverse is all of it, I mean I can say the GE999 Movie is my absolute favourite entry but after that I just love it all pretty much.

Yes, the Emeraldas FULL OVA series on blu ray would be amazing! I still hope we get that eventually, and it was a bummer to hear that many of the OVAs are in licensing hell, but! They have been able to bring us so much already, I can wait more for things to eventually be sorted out. Not like I can do much from this side anyway, right? ^^;
My Main reason for Harlock Space Pirate was just straight up curiousity, so I'm happy enough hearing that the cg is impressive ^^ I will do this from time to time, just bid a 5 or 10 on something curious, and only once in a while it pays off lol
I really should have a "live action version" night sometime with these titles : D
AW man what are the odds? I was looking for a complete collection of Cosmo Warrior Zero and instead ended up finding the individual dvds instead (I like collecting this way too so it's all good!). I remember thinking at the time "did... did I imagine a complete set?" Then later saw they are around, just pricey lol. Oh ha, It's nice to know I have that special then! I would've just assumed it made it onto the disco release : D
Submarine Super 99 is simpler in story yes, but it still ended up being a nice surprise, I actually think you will get a kick out of it : D I was worried I would hate it, but it really did keep my attention (and yeah, maybe it's because I just like a cool submarine on top of all of that)
Yeah! Silent Service is one crazy film, it's a hard sell to most people though. They hear "politics" and "Submarine" and you can see their eyes wander hahaha! Once I thought of it, I went "I should have that, I like that film" hahaha! Watch a bit of the dub when you get a chance, it's so oddly inconsistent, I would rather stick with the sub ^^;
Yay! Confirmation! I should've just DMed you to begin with Blaize XD I couldn't find a pic to confirm my suspision, but I remember seeing that signature before hahaha. YUA is such a good movie, I gotta watchPatlabor next XD

Ooo I love Harlock Space Pirate! I have the Blu ray version which includes a 3d Blu Ray of the movie. And it looks awesome on my 3d tv
That sounds amazing! You've made me look forward to starting this one even more now haha~ From the little bit that I have seen it looks really interesting, so I'm glad I can finally sit down and watch it for myself ^^
Pretty great haul Val! I need to checkout more Leiji Matsumoto works. I do own the first volume of Captain Harlock. Also I did watch the CG Captain Harlock film. I thought the CG was pretty impressive. I remember thinking it was a decent film. Pretty good find for $1.

I love finding random signed media online. My Last Exile boxset is signed by someone who worked on it. Maybe the writer?
It is really cool when something signed comes in, I just think about how neat it was to have something signed and meeting the person. It really makes me wish I could go to some more anime cons (maybe in the future? hopefully we can go together as well~)

Bahaha Silent Service, that is a deep cut. I watched it last year in an attempt to see everything by the director. What an obscure, odd entity. Every character has a jaw of iron.
Hahaha, jaws of iron are right, interesting designs for sure, it was based on a manga, and I heard a lot more was cut to fit a film length, I'm curious if you saw the dub or not haha
@@valkayink I can't quite remember, but I can imagine the dub would be pretty stilted. Looking forward to the next video, always find these hauls very nice and chill.
