Anyone interested in a sensor simulator? Here is a great option from our friends at AES Wave. www.aeswave.com/AutoSim-Pro-Automotive-Sensor-Simulator-p9749.html
Good video knowing the system design first before checking it . Another option is jumping the 5v reference with the signal and look at data and see if any reaction. Thats the problem we the good mechanic have with parts changers, by the time that car show up to honest shop the owner is already in defense mode because previous scams.
Joe, I have watched everyone of your videos and you do an awesome job of explaining your thought process and it seems you never get stumped. You really are great at what you do. Knowledge knowledge knowledge
Eventually more people will think to go to your shop FIRST! Hopefully. This was a very elegant diagnosis and one that the poor customer should have gotten from the first shop.
I followed you every step of the way. I really thought it was a bad sensor... but you proved it was just the pigtail. Exactly why we have to be thorough. Awesome job!
And that my friend is why I prefer to back probe (carefully or front probe, with the correct terminals) the connector to contact the terminals themselves. I have seen, as you have I'm sure, many wires broken right at the terminal. Almost forgot to say I really enjoy ALL your videos.
Thorough and logical diagnosis as usual. I have learned ALOT from your videos. Please keep up the great work. You are truly helping us out here. Peace.
I’ve seen this issue a few times on cavaliers when I used to see them til they all rotted out around here. Good work joe it always pays to check scan data for a few minutes
I had a Honda come by the other day. Battery died overnight and AC would stop working after driving for a half hour or so. Other thing the customer said was he ran in somewhere while his wife stayed in the car and she heard a loud pop and whooshing sound and "steam" came from under hood. They took it to local Honda dealer and they put in a new battery, alternator and evacuated and recharged ac system (because they though it was contaminated). Didn't solve any of their problems. I took a quick look when he brought it over. I notice a pool of AC oil under the compressor on the subframe. Right under the over pressure relief valve. AC clutch is engaged while AC is turned off. I turn off key. AC clutch still engaged. I pull the AC clutch fuse (labeled as M/G clutch for some reason), clutch disengages. Re-install fuse and clutch comes on. Remove relay and clutch disengages. Swap with another relay and clutch does not engage and AC compressor operates normally. Told him to go to Autozone and get a relay and pop it in, and bring it by later and I can check the freon. How does a dealership miss something that simple. I didn't charge him, because he is a good customer that I have done a lot of work for and the poor guy had already spent a fortune and I felt bad for him. Hopefully he learned that if I am a little backed up he needs to wait for me from now on. I din't use any tool, testers or meters. I listened to the symptoms, used my eyes and figured it out in 5 minutes. I think the dealer techs need a little more training.
Tony the Tiger is getting a little restless. haha Parts Cannon Failure is right. Geez All it needed was an investigation for the weak link which was the most inexpensive route to go. Keen eye on that fix. Customer will be happy that its fixed correctly the way it should have been from the first onset.
Must be an A/C thing 2008 Astra I was working on Pressure sensor circuit low input. P0532. Found I was loosing it between sensor and UHFP Damn mice got that wire too. My friend wanted to throw a new sensor at it, Talked him in to letting me test it first. He was happy it only cost him some solder and wire. and not a $75 sensor.
I really like that bosch! Are the wiring diagrams saved in the tool, or do you have to be connected to the internet? Having good wiring diagrams while I'm on the road is one of my biggest hurdles. Great video Joe! I always enjoy your diags!
Replaced a starter in a Hyundai Santa Fe. After replacement, customer hit me up the vehicle broke down, crank no start. Come to find out someone replaced the wires on the camshaft position sensor causing a battery draw. They didn't solder it, they wrapped it up and heat shrinked it. Talk about a dog chasin it's tail..
@@JoesAutoElectric yah but why didn't they realise it needs electricity to turn on the switches turn the electricity on or off this would have only taken them 2 minutes to look up the manual like you did and find the wiring diagram You're right about that machine it's brilliant

I use a 5k ohm or 10k ohm potentiometer works great, the other day I used it on a Patriot coolant sensor circuit
you are right

Thanks a lot..but trust me, I get stumped. Everyone does at times...Way to much to know in this industry for anyone to think they can do it all.
Eventually more people will think to go to your shop FIRST! Hopefully. This was a very elegant diagnosis and one that the poor customer should have gotten from the first shop.
Great job Joe. You always get the crap that others have messed with. Thanks for sharing 👍
Always
Pontiac...there's your problem! Nice find and fix.

Thanks Cuba!!!

Again, very good info. 👍❤️👍
Great job again like always and great video
Thanks for sharing 👍 another good video!
Don’t worry about being a filmmaker, we get the essence of what your showing us!!!!!! Great video!!!!!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Makes me wonder if someone recommended replacing the alternator to fix the A/C problem too.
Brother that's an awesome way to diag a circuit with the simulator tool. Nice job .
Glad you like it
film maker or not i always learn something from your videos, thanks
boy , a camera man is sure helpful. Glad we got the ac verified and working. Good Job.
A cameraman would remember to turn the darn thing on...sigh
Thanks Joe !! just a simple great way to check your work .
Glad you enjoy it!
Thanks Joe for a great lesson
Glad you liked it!

Good video Joe. Going to check AESwave and see if they sell one. Stay well brother 👍

Sensor simulator is a must have tool. Great work. 👍
Agreed!
Nice find. A Vehicle of this age, decrepit wiring is always a strong possibility. As you well know. Thx 👍
Good diagnosis. Sure like your voltage simulator. Stay safe.
Man you know how to diagnose, great job!
I appreciate that!
Great job Joe, I think the power probe hook has an adjustable voltage reference, keep the videos coming, stay safe from here in 🇬🇧
Yes. I bought one when it first came out and sold it a few months later. Didn't like that tool much.
Nice job. You think someone would have noticed when they went to fill the system it was full and looked deeper.
That was honestly my thought...and scan data showing the pressure fault lol
Joe out here making diag jobs look elementary!🤣 Another great video! This would’ve ran 9/10 techs crazy trying to find! Good job bro!
Thanks 👍
Nice work Joe, thanks for taking the time to make the video.
That was great Joe and I know the owner will be happy with your work.
I hope so!
Nice job Joe I have a 5v ref adapter for my power probe but I need to get one of those simulators. Thanks for sharing.
i learnt a couple of things there Joe. Thanks for taking the time.
Glad to hear it

Nice find. Those are common relays to fail "on" in the Honda vehicles.
I’m just getting around to catching up on some of the videos that you’ve recently released! Good job on this one! I really like that sensor simulator.
Thanks so much PJ!
Outstanding work 👏
Thanks again!

Another Great video Mr Joe!!!
Excellent job Joe. You still get my 2 thumbs up M.O. 👍👍
Awesome, thank you!
Good job 👍 Joe take care man.
JOEEEEEE FOR PRESIDENT!!! ONCE AGAIN GREAT DIAG AND THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!!!!
Hey joe can you do more videos explaining more electrical diagrams and a/c gauges? I would appreciate that
You the man!!!!
Just did an '02 Grand Am today. High pressure switch was faulty, scan data was reading 446 psi
haha nice!
Nice job!
You just help me figure out an AC unit on a 2000 Chevrolet cavalier thank you so much
Glad I could help

They were so close on the fix but fired upon wrong side of harness.😁
Another good video thanks
Good god people! Basics basics basics!
Now this is a COOL video
I think the power probe IV can do voltage checks 0-12v you can set the voltage, you just can't simulate PWM with PP IV, I think.
Not sure. Hook maybe?

They are available as long as you have an active subscription, so part of the warranty/software updates, but yes, you need internet to use them.
Great video. I am rather surprised somebody is putting money into that car
Great diag!!
I miss doing diagnostics.

Parts cannon ball fired into enemy ship! 🔧 💣 🔥 🛳
Hey Joe btw where do you go for pig tails other than dealer? online? nice job
All depends man
I do that same test using my power probe with the 5 volt adapter and a rheostat.
Guessing gets ya in a financial hole quickly.
Cheers!
You can do it master.
What is the exact brand and model of your sensor simulator?
Better one in the pinned comment
Smashed it again. I'm surprised the garages that these cars come from are still in business.
Links to some of those sensors simulators??!!

Maybe the compressor was bad and when they changed it, the harness was damaged.
I highly doubt it...but anything is possible. Remember, three shops worked on this..no one caught it?
Hey, joe, a real mechanic would have fixed the Mic... just saying
Ouch...
a compressor ?? all they had to do is front probe the clutch with a test bulb and it would have ruled it out arm chair cannon launching
Well this is true..but why would we test anything when we can toss hundreds of dollars in parts at it first? LOLOLOL
The reason why it didn't work is because you aka the customer through the parts Cannon at it You're meant to look up the wiring diagram first
Customer didn't touch it actually. This was multiple shops in the area he took it to.

Now can you fix his radio so it isn't changing colors like a 12 year old owns it?
