Hi everyone! Thank you so much for getting this video to 1MILLION VIEWS!! and for the lovely and kind feedback about this video! I now have more tutorials on how to draw the face, eyes, nose, mouth in 3/4 view, shading and how to draw hair! You can watch them here: ua-cam.com/play/PL9CdBH1vCgFyHsnyqamtyQKUhtYzYAvYk.html
Zyra Bañez thanks for the very informative tutorial. I’ve only really seen tutorials about face mapping and really need some guides for face features 😁
Drawing was always a passion of mine that I've never attempted due to a limiting belief when growing up. Now in my early 20's I've finally decided to start and knowing well that all the worthwhile things in life require time. Have drew my first face drawing and it was cringe but at the same time so liberating, excited to draw for hours and learn. Thank you so much!
This is such a good tutorial.. of course i followed along and my face came looking out like an alien... but you know... practice practice practice! Thanks for this video! Super helpful!
This is a great video but I'm not getting everything I can out of it because I'm Deaf. Is it possible to put subtitles on the video. I want to know what you are saying so I can get maximum benefit from your video. Thanks for the video anyway.
I can't add subtitles, so I wrote down everything and will add it with timestamps and broken up a bit. I'm going to send it in a few sections as it's a lot of text lol. I hope UA-cam lets me send it all. 1:46 - Head Shape " Lets start with drawing the head, and I like to use 2 main shapes. The first one being the circle, with the size of the circle pretty much defining the size of the head. So, the smaller the circle, the smaller the head, and the bigger the circle, the bigger the head. The next shape is the inverted triangle. The height of this triangle actually defines the shape of the jaw that we want to draw. For example, for a pointy jaw we'd have to draw a tall triangle, while a square jaw is a short triangle. The next thing I like to take note of is the distance between circle and inverted triangle, because changing this distance can help create a range of face shapes, such as an oval (first image), square (second image), and triangle (third image) face shape. There are three main combinations that I like to use that you can see on the screen. For this demonstration I will be using the first combination, which is the most common one. "
3:00 - Position Lines "Now that we have the basic head shape lets add in the guidelines for the facial proportions, which is the ratio that I like to use. So lets start by dividing the head into 2 vertical sections, and 6 horizontal sections to end up with a total of 7 horizontal line, which are named as shown at 3:41 , (line 4 for the eyes is the centre of the head). 3:50 - The Eyes Now that we have the guidelines we can start adding the facial features, starting with the eyes. When drawing these, I like to start with a basic leaf shape on line 4. The height of this shape can determine the size of the eyes. I also like to take note of the outer point, as changing the place of this from higher up to lower down can give a range of eye shapes, such as almond or downturned eyes. The next shape is the circle in the middle for the iris, and by changing the location can change the direction the eye is looking. There is then an arch above the eye to represent the eyelid or the crease of the eye. The distance of this to the eye gives a range of eyelids again, for instance a monolid or deep-set eyes. Changing the angle of this line can also give variation, with upturned or downturned eyes. Lastly is the distance between the eyes, which is usually another eye, however can closer for close-set eyes, or further apart for wide-set eyes. "
5:14 - The Eyebrows When drawing the eyebrows, I draw below line 3 and start with a simple arch. Then I make one side thicker than the other, thats basically it. However, changing the height of this arch can give a nicely arched brow or a straight brow. 5:34 - The Nose When drawing the nose I like to start with a circle just above line 5. The size of this circle can give a range of nose shapes, for example the smaller the circle the pointier and narrow the nose usually is, whereas the bigger circle creates a wider and rounder nose. I then draw two arches for the nostrils and the height and angle for the arch can be changed for diversity. I also like to draw two more lines that look like the letter 'c' to complete the nose, and the final touch is the two lines for the bridge of the nose. This comes down from the eyebrows to the circle that we drew for the nose. You can draw this as light or heavy as you want, depending on how pronounced you want it.
6:27 - The Mouth When drawing the mouth, I start with a basic leaf shape with a 'v' cut out on top, and a line inbetween. I draw this on top of line 6, and the width is normally wider than the width of an eye. Changing the width of this can give smaller or wider lips, while changing the height can determine how large and plump you want the lips to be or how thin you want them. You can alter the shape to create a more realistic look. 7:13 - The Ears When drawing the ears, I like to start with a line that looks like the letter 'c', and the degree of the curve pretty much determines the size of the ear from the front people, as some people do have ears that stick out more, which would be a very curved 'c'. For people who's ears don't stick out as much, it'd be a less pronounced curved 'c'. I also draw this random looking line for a very simplified look of the ear.
7:53 - The Hairline When it comes for drawing the hairline, I have 4 options that I use to create the different faceshapes. For example, I have an arch which can create an oval faceshape (very common), a pointed arch which can create a diamond face shape, a straight line can create square face shape, and the letter 'm' can create a heart face shape. However, sometimes this won't even come in handy, as hairlines are usually hidden with hairstyles. 8:26 - Ovals The last thing I like to add to my portraits are circles or ovals. I actually use the circle we initially drew for the head as a guide for placing the ovals for the cheeks. I do like to add these, but for you its optional however if you've been following my style you'd know I like to add these for my portraits. I also like to draw an oval on the forehead, between eyebrows, as this will help when I colour later. Lastly, I like to add a circle on the chin under the mouth as this helps me shape the jaw.
This was explained so well. Thank you!! I can’t wait to practice this more. I have been staying in my comfort zone lately and feel my progression has plateaued .

Wow I needed this! I’ve struggled for so long I see so many people showing there sketch books and I’ve never felt comfortable actually doing that I go straight into a drawing and fix it to my liking but by doing this I don’t have much to show people and I’ve never felt like I have a good style. And literally a few days ago I was thinking if there was a face tutorial from you, because in my sketchbook my characters don't have a face yet; I only give them nose and eye brows 😂 , this video definitely will help me a lot.
That's definitely the goal now! I'm working on my editing and content so hopefully I actually can bring this channel back to life xD And I'm glad it was helpful! Feel free to ask me any questions :) I'd be happy to help!
a bonus tip: the older you wanna draw people, the more distance there should be between the features of the face - the oppposite goes for young people. Great vid!
I was looking for a realistic face drawing tutorial and I have found the one!! Finally! I’m more into painting, rather than drawing but a 4th grader that lived in my neighborhood sadly, passed away. Her parents had posted that she had passed and my family was going to make some thing to give to them. I want to try this. Pls wish me luck while drawing this. It looks beautiful btw
Thank you for sharing this video , i really find it helpfull , and abig thankk youu for youu for improvingg myy ART !!Really loved every basic steps that u used and it was giving my drawings a really pretty fudged look!
I too, have never posted a response to anything I’ve watched on UA-cam. BUT THIS IS THE BEST I’ve SEEN. It’s simple and easy to understand. I’ve spent hours watching tutorials online, getting sidetracked. To the extent I don’t even start! So, thank you for your video Cammy
late reply, but everyone sucks at drawing when they start. Everyone sucks at everything when they start. Even the "virtuosos", while being extremely rare, still practice their skill many hundreds of hours. Pretty much anyone who you look up to for their skills has practiced thousands of hours, day in and day out. Also the more you learn things, the easier the next thing is. Learning itself is a skill. Basically, you can do this!
I absolute LOVED this video! Ive never drawn faces because I’m scared to and I easily get intimidated but this video really broke down the steps and I feel like it’s a great starting point for me to get motivated to try to draw faces! Thank you so much! ☺️♥️
Thank you! I'm glad it can lessen the stress of learning how to draw. I know it can be overwhelming. I also don't find a lot of tutorials that break it down into a step-by-step logical order which is how I actually learn so I'm glad it was able to help you :) If you have any questions, feel free to ask me :)

I ignored this video a million times before, but now i really appreciated the way you teach the viewers even I so much clearer. Thank you so much for this.
This is the BEST tutorial ever! Thank you so so much! I love how you describe the drawing base on shape and letters, it actually helps a lot! Thank you 🥰

Oh my god. The head shape was so helpful, like I’ve BEEN struggling with the jaw, THANK YOU I’m literally subscribing THIS INSTANT
Shes too good at this to be left with only a million views.
Little do people know that this is too much to handle but too good to keep.
Thank you so so much for this video!!! This is the very first time I ever felt proud of what i had drawn, which is a face. I am sure a lot of us are learning a lot from you Ms. Zyra. You have a great day ahead wherever you are! Stay safe! :)
I'm so glad! thank you for watching :)

Thanks so much! I just watched this and it helped me draw the best face I’ve ever drawn. I’m normally not good at drawing faces at all, but this helper boost my confidence :)
Her circle is soo perfect
I have followed SO many face drawing tutorials and NONE of them have helped me as much as this one. Thank you!!!
i don’t comment usually but i have to say that this is an amazing guide and i am so happy to hear that you’ll upload again since i love your work and still use one your drawings as a lockscreen for years i’ll be looking forward to that
This is probably the best tutorial I’ve ever seen, my drawing actually looks like a semi-realistic face for once!
I agree
This is sooooo helpful! I love how you explained everything so well and the guidelines are really helpful. I’m so glad i found this!😍

This girl is amazing at teaching n make things look simple 🤦🏻♀️❤
OMG 😭 I really love when you say bring this channel back to life, i missed you so so much ❤️ .
César Cóyac Juárez i have a question? When you draw face’s how do you draw the eye’s and the lip’s glossy?
a bonus tip: the older you wanna draw people, the more distance there should be between the features of the face - the oppposite goes for young people.
I pray for you. This is so helpful! I can’t believe I came across such a handy tutorial! 💕
I really loved the way you said... It was so easy to draw even a fashion figure or normal figure

This has COMPLETELY changed my drawing thank you!
I too, have never posted a response to anything I’ve watched on UA-cam.
BUT THIS IS THE BEST I’ve SEEN.
It’s simple and easy to understand.
I’ve spent hours watching tutorials online, getting sidetracked. To the extent I don’t even start!
So, thank you for your video
Cammy
This video is great! I followed the tutorial and my drawing came out pretty good (which never happens). Thanks :)
This was so detailed and easy, I could see myself drawing already. Thanks😊
Monolid is basically not having a double eyelid which means no line appears on top of the eyes.
One of the best drawing tutorials l’ve seen so far!!! I’m sending this to my dad, he alway wanted to learn how to draw
Drew my first face, with you as my guide, and it came out quite satisfactory.I will be back for more. Thanks!!
I suck so bad at drawing that I’ve just given up on it but this, honestly, is the best video I’ve ever seen. ☺️
late reply, but everyone sucks at drawing when they start.
This video popped up in my recommendations. As an artist myself, I need to tell you that it's the first time I watch a tutorial that's so clear!! Your voice is super soothing too. New subscriber here ✨
i am an upcoming arts and design (A&D) track student, i cannot draw at all! i'll take this track because of performing arts, this is really helpful :)
I have just recently come across this tutorial and I just wanted to say that I love your drawing style and will be referring to this video in the future. Thanks!
Thank you so much!! I hope it helped!
I’d like to see a tutorial about how you use the ovals/circles when coloring a face. Cool idea, and I haven’t seen anyone talk about that before
Oh that's interesting! You're right I haven't seen anyone do a tutorial for it yet :D
my brain while watching the mouth: this looks easy
my hand: nope
POV: you’re an angle in heaven learning how to create humans
*angel

Not me coming here without even knowing how to draw a simple tree and without taking any drawing lessons before
Same lol I’m really trying to learn on my free time. This video is so helpful though. She explains it in Laymans terms and I love that lol 😂
In your defense, trees are hard, okay?

Ahhh i havent visited this channel in a while! (Because i havent visited any in a while 😂 damn uni is difficult) and you’ve grown so much! Missed the content 💛 keep doing what you do! I remember being here since you started the channel and you even got to respond to some messages regarding my art inquiries and you were always so accommodating! Much love!
Aw thank you so much! I do admit that I haven't been the best at responding to people for the last couple of years, but I hope to get back into it. Your support means a lot!! :D
This is simple and mindblowing ,, I always thought it takes a whole lot of time to draw faces through practice but just 11 min changed my view.. my face came out pretty good.thanks a lot ❤️
I'm 25 and just starting to learn to draw. This great tutorial encouraged me that it's possible for me to learn it. It's never too late 💪🏾 thank u for this video

Me a practicing artist whom has dedicated the last 2 months to trying to draw faces and has drawn way to many circles to count
I love how you did an animation to really show your idea better
for me, i find drawing trapeziums for the jaw is much easier and helpful for the face shape, but the overall tutorial was amazing. thank you!!
I'm getting so frustrated with myself rn...i suck at drawing humans
Antonela Rosewarne this is the best face tutorial i’ve ever come across to... and i still can’t draw this.
Dont worry, so was DaVinci himself picasso was no natural either. Try everyday and in segments. 🖤🖤🖤

@@mira-it2hu ik what you mean i’m not as experienced as all the other people in my art class and i wasn’t born very talented i sometimes doubt myself but it takes patience and hard work to get better at drawing.
