Last year I had clemson at 9-3 and they went 8-4
Also I look at baseball and basketball and they use the portal and we have had top 15 teams this year in all three sports.

What about all those teams that depend on the portal and still suck? How about bringing that up. The portal isn't a cure all. I hear a bunch of fan bases who are disappointed with college football because of the portal and NIL. You can't have it both ways.

As much as I hate to say it, as a Clemson fan, you were right in your rant in the beginning of the video. In addition to that it is also Dabo choosing former players instead of establisbed coaches, those decisions have had many years of consequences that we are still feeling now. I do believe the Garrett Riley and Matt Luke hires were phenomenal choices and hopefully that is an indication of thing's turning around for the program. We shall see..

I think Clemson might surprise you this year with their offense. With Wesco and Moore coming in and the WR room being more healthy this off season they should take a step forward. Plus the offensive line with matt luke. Hopefully Cade is leaening to get the ball out in under 3 seconds. Last year was a turnover machine for the Clemson offense. Very uncharacteristic compared to a typical year. Im hoping they have a better turnover margin this year. Plus with a great TE, and Mafah and a few new talented backs they should be higher on their offense conpared to last season. Especially two years with Garrett Riley at the helm

Agree with everything Lou said about Clemson downward trajectory, but another major factor is missing on back to back qbs in dju and (probably) Cade. Guys who were expected to be much better than they were/are. (Cade still has a chance)
Clemson's primary issues by far is bad coaching hires on offense since 2019(the offense regressed every year after that), not the transfer portal or NIL. These are lazy talking points that don't carry any weight
Agreed. Dabo has been trying to fix that since he hired Garrett Riley and now he has Matt Luke who was the offensive line coach for Georgia from 2021-2022. It takes time to fix things though.

@@STEELGMBL I 100% agree. Heck, they should've been made after the 2020 season. You could see the offensive decline even with Trevor Lawrence there but he was so good and the roster was so good that it covered a lot of that up. After Jeff Scott left and Tyler Grisham was hired is when the offensive started declining. I still think Tyler Grisham needs to go but he's been recruiting very well as of late. Hopefully he does turn out to be a great coach and he just needed time to get better.

tater man here. I agree with most of what you said about my Tigers. I don't think it's Dabo's rejection of the portal, it's his unwillingness to pay top NIL money. He made offers, and they went to lesser programs. He does not not want to pay portal guys more than the guys on the roster. The big OL recruit from Evans High School we lost to UGA, after he decommitted from Bama. Rumor is that was a straight money thing. The reason for their downsurge is the portal, NIL money. Weak OL with injuries, some high recruits just did not pan out,, coaching. He addressed the coaching. Wide Receiver, same reasons, he did not address the coaching here. Poor QB play, some of that because of the OL and receiver play and a lack of experience. This is a pivotal year for them. I think they are still 1 year away from being back, if they come back to where they were. Let us get together in August at Reinharts or somewhere in August, be fun. As far as the UGA game, they will need help from UGA. They ain't Vandy yet😂

11-1, loss to Georgia and a couple more close ones with NC State and Virginia Tech. I don't see FSU posing any kind of threat this year, especially with DJU. Clemson knows exactly what makes DJU fold and they'll be sure to do that.
I would also say the rise of UGA recruiting hurt Clemson. I don’t know why Dabo is against NIL. Danny Ford loved it. 😂

Clemson should go 10-2, either losing to UGA and somewhere else on the schedule (@FSU or @VT).
It’s quite possible we beat Georgia. It wouldn’t take a whole lot of IFs for that to happen. Clemson’s o-line should be much improved as will our WR corps.
What was missing from this preview was what Lou does with every other preview and actually talk about what’s coming back and what was lost.

Mr. Buckeye here again. What you're saying about Clemson recruiting is very true. This David Sanders Jr. from Charlotte is the #1 OT in '25 class. 5 star who reminds me of Paris Johnson so much. A kid like this from Charlotte is a type of player who was absolutely going to Clemson 10 years ago. As of now, TOSU is battling Rocky Top for this guy. As talented as the Buckeyes are, we need this one bad. We don't have an OT like him on this team. But yeah, Clemson woulda had this dude wrapped up and delivered in the past.
NCSU has outstanding QB with Grayson McColl. Every bit an upgrade and Dabo is going to find out what a transfer impact player can do.

@@dp26385 I'm an old Dawg that remembers how much pain Clemson put on Georgia back in the late 70s on through till they quit playing each other every year in 1991. I never take our neighbors to the east lightly. That being said, I think a lot of Dabo's coaches have left him and the replacements might not be up to par yet. On the face of it, I see the Dawgs winning this one by a couple of TDs if all goes well. By game time, I might have a different take. We'll see. Wish we still played every year. Maybe in the future, if college football is even a thing in the future. BTW, I live in Blacksburg, Va and will be in Lane Stadium when y'all come calling on the Hokies in November. Should be a good one.

I feel like two things can be true at once. Dabo's stubbornness with the portal has hurt Clemson and at the same time so has some of his hiring decisions with the offense. People are hoping at the very least the latter can be significantly improved now with the hires of Garrett Riley and Matt Luke, but that still remains to be seen.

The NIL issue is something I don't know Clemson can compete on that front. There are schools with bigger business school alumni than we've got. I'm worried Clemson is doing about as well as possible on that front.

Dabo Swinney is one of the best coaches from an in game standpoint. The problem is that Dabo’s off the field aspects are starting to cost Clemson (transfer portal and NIL). Last year was the beginning, and this year will continue Clemson’s spiral. My prediction is that Clemson will go 8-4 with losses to Georgia, Florida State, Louisville, and South Carolina.

Dabo is pretty much Dan Mullen except instead of being too stubborn to make coaching changes it’s utilizing the portal. Only difference between the two is Dabo luckily had his success before the portal was a thing

Uncle Lou, I think Clemson has one more issue on top of the portal and NIL troubles. Dabo is losing his passion and drive for Clemson football, imo. I've seen it happen with many coaches. Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier, Mark Richt, etc. Does that mean he can't be a great coach somewhere else? I don't know, maybe. But eventually even the money isn't enough to keep someone invested in a program. It takes serious drive and passion for winning to keep a big program like Clemson afloat
It’s pretty simple. Clemson doesn’t have the funds to outbid bigger programs like uga and osu now that’s it’s legal to essentially buy players. So Dabos trying to entice players by things other than getting the most money. Agree on not using the portal. But not using the portal is also a recruiting pitch.
And furthermore if the potal and NIL are the key then lookout for the Deion Buffs.
That’s probably not going to be far off… we should go 10-2. Just hoping they can play well against UGA and springboard off of that.

Just so you know, the last time a P5 blew us (App State) out was UGA in 2017. Since then, we've taken Penn St to overtime, beaten both UNC and USC Jr, should've beaten UNC at least one of the other two times we played them, got robbed against Miami in 21, beaten Texas A&M in 2022. I think with a top-15 QB nationally, we go down there and stuff a big ole L onto Dabo's record there.

You know it has very little to do with the transfer portal or NIL. It was coaching hires. Getting that fixed will change everything. Dabo offered 3 portal olinemen and they chose to go elsewhere. It is against the rules to use NIL to recruit players. Clemson will follow the rules. Covid year hurt recruiting and bad coa hibg hires did too
The reason the NIL has hurt clemson is not because dabo is against it. The reason dabo has advocated against it being implemented is because Clemson has no where near enough money to compete with the other top football schools in NIL. The problem is simply that clemson doesnt have enough money. Other schools got guys being paid more money to sit on the bench than any player on clemson. NIL has also made the transfer portal irrelevant for clemson as well. There are only a handful of great transfer players and they go to teams that have the money to pay them which clemson doesnt.

Seems obvious but NIL and the portal are not the real reason Clemson has stepped back. Lou you need to look into the age of Dabo and all his friends kids. Just like all of our kids are the same age of our friends kids. It takes a deep dive but look into the amount of friends and family kids who have touched the field. Also Dabo hired a host of do boys to coach which was nuts also. Also if Cade grows a pair Georgia will be in for a surprise.
it can be both. NIL and portal definitely having impact. Perfect example is the QB. This Klubnik sucks and they didn't even take a transfer. When they lose to NCSU who has a transfer QB that Clemson could have easily had it will be obvious.

Clemson never recruited better than top 10 we just developed better. Coaching absolutely matters. Ask yourself why the defense seems so good and the offense so bad. Inexperience at the coaching positions. Other than that your take on Clemson is ok. I have us upsetting ga week one :)

Good review, but Holy cow .... a bad case of "Dabo Derangement Syndrome"! You might want to get that checked out.
Your trend statistics are solid. Your predictions are arguably on point. I think Clemson will take care of NanCy State at home and with the revenge factor in play.
As for NIL, Dabo likes "his" players and uses NIL money to keep "his" players, versus buying new players. This is part of the reason that we don't have a flood of people leaving (and coming in).
You discounted the coaching as being the problem. The transfer portal and NIL don't impact one side of the ball. If NIL and transfer portal were the real reason, then the defense would have dropped off, too. It hasn't. We are consistently a top defense. The reason for the decline is predominantly the offense. When Coach Scott left we dropped. When Coach Elliot left, we dropped again. We filled the O-line, WR, RB, coaching positions with 1st time coaches. The QB coach/OC had not been in that position at a D1 level program, and quite frankly sucked. Our QB problem may could have been fixed with the portal, but the (3) QB's in question were 5-star, 5-star, and 4-star talent. Now go back to the previous sentence. The QB coach couldn't develop talent, and truthfully, he destroyed it. All of that is on Dabo, but he has made coaching changes to try to right the ship.
Now, we have a new OL coach and a 2nd year in system OC. With Will "Fumblina" Shippley moving on, and Mafah toting the rock, we should be a little better in fumbles. We need that 2nd guy as you said. If the WRs can stay healthy, and get the new guys up to speed, then we may be better there. We still have the QB problem. The question is can Riley get Klubnik or Vizzina or Pearman to step up and be good?
Look at who was QB during their natty's. Look at who their QB's are now. A NFL caliber QB can take a 9-3 team to a natty.
