Hitchcock’s genius in filming an innocent man caught in a legal trap in search of his reprieve to wit a love story to boot is self evident here ! Hitchcock shines Thanks for sharing this epic gem a first cousin to The 39 Steps
Yes. And in the colorized films you can actually see them, instead of having everything look flat and virtually invisible. The process gives them so much more depth and detail.
Oh yeah so do I even though it IS kinda painful sometimes to see a really beautiful girl/lady with one of those “Hair/dos” they had!! What Were they Thinking??
Yes! The English had the best time period costumes for sure! But as a woman and artist I have to add, today, I love running to my corner Bodega for breakfast in my pj bottoms-No muss, no fuss, and no need for a blooming corset ugh AND NO HAVING TO DRESS FOR OTHERS, ESPEC. MEN. Omg, I have better things to do wth my time lol
Clothing wasn't any cheaper then than it is today relative to income; what _was_ cheaper was fabric for sewing your own clothing...today, fabric is extremely overpriced, with Asian readymade imports made with low-quality fabrics, the cheaper option.
I cannot believe this is one of Alfred Hitchcock’s movies. It’s pretty good so far. I normally do not like when they colorize movies, however, this one didn’t come out so bad I would still like it in black-and-white though. Debra Bader.❤
Какой хороший фильм. Несмотря на криминальный сюжет, - отношения главных героев, их влюбленность, преданность, несмотря на разные преграды, - несут положительный заряд, радость, надежды на будущее счастье.... Спасибо.
I knew there was no way that I could get through 10 comments before being forced to endure another one of these negative naggers. Why do people have this compulsion to bitch so much about modern movies in such a robotic way? The exact words are 100% predictable. Everything old is perfect and nothing new has any value. Why even bother, when we all know that every 5th comment will be identical anyway?
Hitchcock as a young man LOVED English music hall and he filled this film with comic bit parts for music hall actors that still are delicious - from the pessimistic lawyer blind without his glasses, the little boy pumping gas, the two policemen at the old mill and on and on.
I ENJOYED IT. ITS ONE OF THOSE MOVIES YOU HAVE TO KEEP WATCHING. I DIDNT REALISE IT WAS MADE SO LONG AGO UNTIL IT FINISHED WHEN I SAW THE YEAR IT WAS MADE. GREAT MOVIE SEEING IT WAS MADE THAT LONG AGO.
I much prefer "Young and Innocent" as a title. However, that's my only quibble. Thank you for uploading. I've got to give credit where credit is due no-one can direct like the Hitchcock man. Fabulous film with a terrific denouement at the Grand Hotel. Beautifully staged, though even Hitch couldn't get away with the blackface today. 😊
"Inocencia y Juventud", como la conozco en castellano. De las favoritas de Hitchcock de su etapa británica. La tengo en DVD con la versión en blanco y negro (idiomas V.O. y español), pero apenas la he conocido en su versión coloreada. ¡Gracias!

@@steveblundell7766 Yes. Her hair and clothing is very plain, but her face is beautiful! The only difference between her and them is the adornments, as is the case with most women. If you put enough money into the effort, even the Kardashian girls can be made to look good!
Great film . I would love to see the faces of the cops and especially of the two young ladies when they find out that the accused suspect has been innocent all along . Never get hysterical ? Oh really .
How it opens, "Christine!". I hate when people say my name like that. My nursing instructor did once and it rang in my ears for years. However this movie just made it up there as a cult favourite because of that.

The eccentric "black minstrel" make-up of the band-members carried over into television era shows and could be seen on BBC television every week as late as 1978.
Early hints of Hitchcock genius, but a silly script. So many ridiculous conclusions drawn from the flimsiest evidence. Every police officer knows the spouse is the most likely suspect, yet they don't even look for him. And, what happened to the dog? Not making sure the dog was OK was unforgivable.
@bobsanders9114 What is with you people and your excessive hatred for this process? I think you have severe metal problems and lack of control. No doubt a right wing fanatic. It's only a movie! And it gives back so much depth and detail! It makes the faces, costumes, and scenery look real, instead of like a flat, grey or brown cardboard effect of sheer emptiness. I love it!
@@cattymajiv I agree with you, I have the black-and-white version of this movie on blu-ray and even though I think my version looks better than this colourised version, it doesn't affect me one bit, I can easily choose not to watch the colourised version. When it does become annoying is when they badly colourise a movie and that makes it harder to find the original. A case in point is The Great Mughal (1960), it was originally filmed in black and white and then they made a complete mess of the colourisation, but the colour version is the only one readily available. If they hadn't colourised it I'm sure the black and white version would be easier to find.
Why the BLACKFACE BAND PLAYER?? The use of blackface in movies has roots in early modern English theater, where it was used in plays and masques that featured African characters as far back as the 16th and 17th centuries. Blackface was also a part of minstrel shows, which were comedic performances by white people in exaggerated makeup and costumes that portrayed "blackness". The origins of blackface are debated, but some say it's part of a tradition that dates back to 1441, when captive West Africans were displayed

Excellent period piece. Early Hitchcock
It's great to see both b&w and color.
Each version has different merits.
As long as the original format is preserved.
I love looking at the things in old movies like the cĺothes, cars, buildings, hair-dos

Calm down over there

I love Hitchcocks Movies . Recently I have watched ..39 Stufen about espionage in the UK.
What a sweet (loose -plotted) film for an early Hitchcock - in its Wes Anderson-colourised mode. Sweet pair of unusually-named actors as the leads.
I enjoyed this movie very much. It was my introduction to the beautiful Nova Pilbeam.

Un film tout en charme et en fantaisie ! La colorisation pour une fois ajoute à sa poésie. L'humour so british de Hitch jeune cinéaste prodige.
Wonderful. Hitchcock’s sense of humour! Great sets and costumes. And those long tracking shots into the sumptuous dance orchestra scene…
