Hope they allow complete fresh start servers, don't really want to play on servers full of people who hoarded their gold or bought it off gold sellers.
I started in WoW only 2-3 months before TBC dropped, so while I did play in vanilla, i didn't play for so long that I was really interested in going back. TBC was when I really fell in love with the game. All the tanking classes could actually tank, the various DPS specs were all viable, Mages didn't have to be frost. I thought my enhancement shaman and ret pally were so much fun because of the added utility abilities they brought to dungeons and raids. TBC expanded the classes to such an extent that they all became usable and felt unique, you didn't have to be X class and Y spec o get invited to raids. I really loved it, it was so much fun.
Progressive is ok, but they HAVE to also have brand new, fresh servers where everyone starts at level 1 as an option. Also, there needs to be an option for players to stay on pre-tbc servers forever. That was the promise Blizzard made.
you know all those videos about the leak basically have the same information but I am still watching all of them because I cant wait for my most favourite exp to drop! karazhan here I come!
I’m so stoked about TBC. The best WoW expansion imo. I remember waiting in line for my copy, taking it home, installing it and playing it, excited to see the differences from vanilla.
This is bad news for me. While I want everyone that wants TBC to be able to play it, I don't want my current characters to be on a TBC server. I also, don't want to start all over on a fresh vanilla sever. Unless Blizz lets me transfer, this may be it for me. As I don't really care for the direction retail is going either.
Really hope they dont make the same mistake as on classic, would love to see itemization progress trough patches, instead of the snoozefest we got on classic until naxx where the game finally caught up with player power.
Restart at lvl 55 like deathknights start with certain amount of gold and items. Two weeks before launch, that way people don’t have tons of gold and items etc stocked up
Should I start leveling a character to 60 on a low pop realm? I was thinking of rolling on anathema but Im not sure if it would be worth it on such a low pop server. not sure if the server will see a boom with BC on the horizon. any feedback is appreciated
I'm personally going to wait and just hope they release fresh TBC servers. I have a 60 mage atm but I would rather start fresh instead of dealing with the economy and alt profession characters meta.

5:56 there's a very simple solution: starting with the prepatch, those people can join and just power-level to 60. By the time TBC is released, they'll be good to go

I really, really hope you are wrong that the only way to be able to play classic will be on fresh servers. It would take SO little work for them to open one or two classic-forever servers, where people can transfer their classic characters to, permanently. I simply cannot see any reason why they would alienate a significant minority of the players, when there is literally no cost associated with keeping them happy. This option was even in their initial survey. I am not saying you are interpreting the information at hand incorrectly, I just really, really, really hope you are mistaken.
Those “empty” servers have players offline waiting for TBC. I play on one of them, Hydraxian Waterlords, and there’s loads of people riding their bug mounts in Naxx gear around Orgrimmar. Not a fresh level start!
It would have been nice to have some additional Classic content. I think this is moving too fast. Not that I wouldn't be excited for TBC as I LOVED TBC, but they could have expanded in so many more directions in classic.

Why not make one or a few servers a lv58 fresh start so everyone can have a level playing field? That would be more enjoyable than everyone progressing from classic with 3k gold hoarded and wrecking the economy.

Actually I think the TBC announcement will bring a lot of life back to Classic including your server since a lot of players will want to level their characters and get prepared for TBC overall.
The head of wow classic was the head of EQ classic and they launched classic servers every other year if not every year past 4 years. I'm thinking they hired her to lead the way to preserve classic on wow like they did on EQ. I want to play WoW classic not WoW progressive since eventually, all the classic servers will have all expansions. I like TBC ..but after that wow is dead to me. Seeing that the previous EQ leader is now in wow classic will mean all classic servers will NOT be staying in classic they will progress until they become current servers. So people will start on one ...once after TBC advances, they jump to the next fresh classic ..etc etc etc .. the same story as EQ currently and this action will force populations on those "classic" servers to diminish. Good for them not for the player because servers will become ghost towns.
TBC will flop in about 2 months. It offers nothing fundamentally different than retail, it was the beginning of the antithesis of why people wanted classic so badly.
TBC and WOTLK are considered as the "peak" of wow for most wow players and they always have been the most popular among private servers for years. Comparing tbc to retail is not serious. What you presented is your personal view. The same things people said before classic vanilla launch ("you think you do, but you dont" + "classic will fail after 1-2 months")

Laymen of the genre knew what vanilla was, Nostalrius was a phenomenon that started this entire thing - TBC private servers are not that in the slightest. Wrath is also extremely popular with private servers because it's like, basically the last stable emulation of an xpac.

I really hope they have the option to make 58 characters. Playing TBC classic is for TBC, not classic rolling into TBC. I'm good with the ability to move existing toons over as that was part of Classic to TBC.
No disrespect, but I feel there's basically a 0% chance they do this. The only way I can see them offering level 58 templates is through the store, but there's no way this is a regular reality of the base game. They certainly could charge for it, so in that sense this could happen. Blizz isn't doing pservs, though. They don't have any incentive to allow you to start at 58, as opposed to paying for a full extra month or two levelling up to that point. The safe bet is that they will progress everything that currently exists, and that there will be either static P6 Classic servers to copy toons to, or they'll roll Fresh Classic ones. Unless you're planning on going Draenei or Belf, start levelling in Classic now. I do get what you're saying, and I know plenty of others likely want the same, but I feel it's unrealistic and you may just be disappointed.

There’s lots of good info out there though. First, go to Ironforge.pro (google for specific link) - this has roughly estimated server populations and A/H balance. When you find one that looks interesting, look for their discord link. I believe most servers have a discord for their community, and you can get a glimpse of the overall interactions between players, guilds and factions there. Then, if you like the look of a server, see if there’s a guild advertising that seems alright, and reach out. That’s exactly what I did pre-Classic, and found a great guild for my playstyle. Pagle seems to be a top PvE server - lots of good guilds there. Faerlina is the “streamer PvP server” - crazy, but apparently solid? I don’t honestly follow the server scenes much, but there’s LOTS of info out there about what happens on each. The wow forums themselves, while probably jank, will have server pages too. Good luck on the hunt - I hope you find a good group for TBC!
IMO, those people who didn't play Classic, and want to be on an even playing field, are kidding themselves. When in the history of WoW has this ever worked? I skipped most of BFA, and in that time people made literally millions of gold. I had 40k to my name. In no reality is it fair to hope I'd be on an even playing field. I'm essentially positive we're progressing our current servers/characters. There *may* be a gold cap, but I honestly doubt that too. If you want to be on an even playing field, it's easy - make a character in Classic now. Start to prepare. By 70, most, if not all, Naxx gear will be replaced. You'll be fine. Thanks to Naxx consumes, there is LOTS of gold to be made in Classic right now. If you're smart, you'll start to prep today. It's the safest of bets to assume they're not starting TBC on purely fresh servers, so get your toon levelled, and get some gold stashed. It's coming!! Don't be the unprepared fool Illidan believes you to be.
Gold doesn't even out anything lol a gold deficit means literally nothing in this game. All it does is give you a minor boost to clearing content or boosting your gear up to the point that literally every new or old player can get. With or without gold

The one point I’d make is that due to the inflated gold now compared to then, it will benefit the early game if you have some saved up. they tend to do gold compression, so 2 people with 450,000g nd say 250,000g will end up with 4500g nd 2500g. Which i kinda dont mind.
Or everyone gets capped at 2k gold per account.

That was definitely classic's biggest shortcoming. If they can't do patches, they should at the very least buff the raids to make them more difficult.
