    The trick is paying very close attention to what the captain says and watching exactly what other people who are catching fish setups. In the first 10-15 minutes your setup isn't catching fish, then change something, that is smaller hooks (#2,#4) or lighter line. Fluorocarbon leader is a must, start at 30#, but be quick to tie 25# or even 20# to the end of it and give it a go if you don't get bit with 30#.

      All of these tips plus you have to cast your bait, how far? As far as you can get it out the better so you’re not in the same zone as 90% of the rest of the boat.

    I have been fishing the Freedom for years back when Capt. Mike F. and Mark, woody and Augie. It's a great boat still. Tino has taken fishing to new levels. The crew is on top of getting the fish on the boat. Fishing big mackerel for yellows and hanging ling cod when it gets cold. San nicholas is. Or S.B.I. IT WAS

    Try throwing a yo yo jig around next time if you're in that area for yellows. I went 3 for 5 on the yellowtail the last time I was on that boat. The Tady A2 or kicker heavy 15 jigs were all working for me in various colors... mint(especially), scrambled egg, and blue and pink.

    • @WETTHATLINE

      @@WETTHATLINE I had two yellows eat a scrambled egg Salas 6x jr on that boat a few weeks ago. The key was getting the jig in the water right when we pulled up to a school of fish. Both bites were in the first three casts on a spot. After that, the fish would get boat shy and you needed to long soak a bait to get bit.

    Try to handle your bait more carefully, if your hand is covered in scales after you get it on the hook it means you were squeezing the bait too hard and you're less likely to get bit. Awesome video dude keep it up!

Probably gonna try both landings since i have fond memories of both. San pedro for the being able to have the restaurants cook the fish right on the spot. Pierpoint because of the captain's. I use to ride on the fat matt back in the day i think they retired that boat out of 22nd. Stay tuned for my utube video.

    • @WETTHATLINE
      @WETTHATLINE  2 роки тому +1

      Yes but only certain boats will run into them. The best way to go is looking up the fish counts for the boats you're interested in. Catalina and San clemente should be the best areas that are close and not as expensive as other trips

      I was looking at the pursuit out of San Pedro but it looks like only their overnight boat, the one you are on in this video targets them based on fish counts? Idk it’s so expensive to do an overnight trip i really don’t know what to do

    • @WETTHATLINE
      @WETTHATLINE  2 роки тому +1

      @@primoangler3852 is not the cheapest boat but the freedom out of 22nd street landing in San Pedro is awesome. I'd do a 1.5 day. The last trip it had was a 3/4 day and this was the fish count:
      1 Halibut, 2 Sheephead, 41 Yellowtail, 1 Calico Bass, 107 Whitefish, 141 Rockfish, 5 White Seabass. I mean that's awesome fishing right there and it's a huge boat with lots of room. You will want small hooks and 20/25lb fluorocarbon. Fly line sardines is probably the best bet

    • @WETTHATLINE
      @WETTHATLINE  2 роки тому +1

      The boats don't Target fish based off fish counts. Fish counts are just the recorded catches that the boat caught on the last trip. I agree they are expensive and I will look for a boat that is doing well with Yellowtail that you wouldn't have to sleep on the boat. I'll message you again on here with what I find
