    I'm hoping to go on a fishing boat when I go in 3 weeks. Do you think my Saragosa 6k can handle a 3/4 day? thinking of putting 50lb maxcuatro and having a loop for 25-40lb topshot depending on what i need. Forget all the "coffee grinder" hate. Thanks and good work.

    • @girabaldytasty6224
      @girabaldytasty6224 6 років тому

      @@clansymbiont8688 dude seriously? You ALWAYS topshot braid. For a number of reasons. For shock leaders some times and so the fish don't see your braid, if thier line shy. Also if I'm fishing a jig I use a 100 yard mono top shot so I'm not casting braid.

    • @hgfs6479
      @hgfs6479 6 років тому

      @yum yum perfect have 50lb spectra/braid ~150yds connected to a relatively short (5-8ft) connected leader on the end which should be 25lb Florocarbon Line for the 6000 Saragosa, with a 1-3 oz speed jig, and be prepared for that yellowtail or big bonita strike!

    • @griff8941
      @griff8941 5 років тому

      @@hgfs6479 i agree with that but make sure that if you around going straight from mono to braid make sure that you connection is smooth or it will reduce casting distance and maybe break you off at the boat, but if not make sure that your knots from the braid to the swivel and the swivel to the mono are tight.

    Looked like fun, anyway, Romy. Were those sea lions in the video? Take a lot of fish from you guys? I got into a nice school of tuna, about 10-lb fish, right outside the breakwater at Redondo Beach, but all I got was heads, one after another, as the dang sea lions took every one as soon as i tired it and got it near the boat. I tried to let them tire deep, then just yank them up into the boat, but that did not work either. I hate sea lions.

      YES SIR, thats the plan some surface lures and also some vertical jigs. I went last year and rented some gear and with live bait there were so many tangles so I'm just sticking to lures this time for most of the trip. What lures should I purchase to bring?

    • @ROMY840420
      @ROMY840420  6 років тому +1

      Yeah the live bait can be sluggish and bot swim out away from the boat so i like to use Lures Too and yeah less to no tangles too ;) heres what i use .... THE CAIVO 3D BULL DOG POPPER IS A KILLER TOP WATER LURE ;) The Salas 6x Junior, Ironman 3 and 5's and Tady AA or 9,
      among bottom jigs that works well when the bite is deep & Tady 45's in every color if you can afford it are my all time
      favorite for how they swim and attract fish year after year.

      Coffee Grinders? You mean spinning reels ?

    • @kevinnguyen8018
      @kevinnguyen8018 7 років тому +4

      Metal Detecting & Fishing With Romy coffee grinders are another term for spinning reels.... Dubbed in socal for those who can't or don't know how to use conventional reels

    • @ROMY840420
      @ROMY840420  7 років тому +3

      Well baitcasters are great but They are used for lures alone, so they don’t have the versatility of spinning reels, i was fishing live bait and Irons, I had three bait casters on the boat but felt no need to use them that day as i wasnt on any big fish But honestly it depends on what you'll be doing with it.
      Baitcasting - Lots of hauling power; works best with heavier lures; they can backlash...and it's a huge pain when they do.
      Spinning - Works great with lighter lures; backlash isn't an issue (although tangles can still happen); more prone to line twist.
      I Have fished these waters for the last 30 + years and am well aware of the bait-caster snobs out there lol but truth is in most applications they are not needed and i will out fish you every time with a spinning combo, but I Agree when your on to some 30lb + Yellows and bigger fish i would use a bait caster but not for Bonita hahahahahahha

    • @kevinnguyen8018
      @kevinnguyen8018 7 років тому +3

      Metal Detecting & Fishing With Romy I agree with you as you aren't wrong but majority of the time, if it backlashes it's something you did. Conventional reels can cast just as far as spinning with light lures if you know what you are doing and have the right gear. I can cast an 3" anchovy with a smaller conventional such as a Calcutta or a torium 14 as I do with a spinning reel. Majority of the spinning rods can not load up when you cast an iron as much as you do with a jigstick and a conventional reel. I like to use spinning reels too but only when I'm using poppers for fishing or vertical jigging. Spinning and conventional have there own cons and pro but with the right conventionals, you could easily outfish people with spinning gears on finess fishing. Take the Acurate Valiant 300 for example, you could throw anything you throw on a spinning with that and get just the same or even better performance. In the end it's just preference on what you like to you and I'm not gonna hate on you for using spinning gear bc i like your vids but I just thought it was kinda funny to someone throw irons on spinning gear.

    • @FishLubber
      @FishLubber 7 років тому +4

      Idk how I feel about people who are not open minded enough to use a "coffee grinder" to their advantage as they would a conventional reel. I have just over 50 rods and reels and over half of them are conventional. Is it about putting fish in the boat or egocentrism?
