    I love this ship. It's just so... Boring that it becomes interesting. It's not flashy, it's not threatening, but blast it, it gets the job done. It can be a Dropship, it can be a light carrier, it can be a patrol ship, it can be a transport... It's the little ship that could. It's just so endearing.

    • @Grymbaldknight
      @Grymbaldknight 5 років тому +76

      During WW2, the vehicles and weapons which saw action from 1939 to 1945 weren't the ones which were spellbindingly amazing; they were the ones which simply got the job done, and did so cheaply and reliably enough to justify their continued use.
      The British "Matilda II" tank is a good example of this. It was considered "very good" in 1939, and "good enough" by 1945. They saw service everywhere from Africa to Burma, and variants were made for many different roles. They were never "the best", but they were tried and true.
      This ship embodies that same mindset. It isn't amazing, and it isn't pretty. It won't turn heads, or blow people away. It can just about be relied upon to do what you want it to do, no matter what it is or where it might be. It can do a little of everything, and can be sent wherever at a moment's notice. They're reliable, and commanders love reliable ships.
      I love vehicles which occupy that niche. They're probably uncomfortable, cramped, and dirty to serve aboard... but their crews probably love them just the same.

Still, Spacedock tends to look at the effects - and there I have to say, plotarmor or not, TIE's rarely win a fight against the rebels we see (again, biased bc. when they win it's just business as usual, a Rebel win is an outlier until ANH, supposedly, but still: that's what we see, canon).

    I always thought the Arquitens, and other smaller hanger-less patrol craft should have a number of the retractable docking mounts on the bottoms to allow them to carry fighters, or in the case of the Arquitens, more fighters. Maybe not all of the ships of any specific class, but at least on sum, adding 6 on the Arquitens would result in it fielding three times as many fighters/bombers, which I’m sure would have been handy on many occasions

  • @GAJake

    Personally I think the VCX-100 freighter is much better than a Gozanti. We saw the ghost dock with 3 starfighters, 2 on the sides, and one under the ship, and with it's auxiliary starfighter it had the same amount of ships but much faster and more maneuverable, and could have torpedo launchers.
    As an armed freighter the Hammerhead corvette had a much better Cargo capacity to Cost ratio than even the C-Roc.
    However the Gozanti was the only one of these ships that could carry ground vehicles. This is the role I would use it in alongside LAAT carriers, which were more expensive and could only carry one ship but much faster and more manueverable.

    Throw a medium weight turbolaser on top, another chin mounted laser turret, and beef up the armor and you have a decent ship to ship corvette. Maybe replace one or two of the docking arms for some torpedo tubes.

    I can see why Filoni decided to use a Gozanti in "The Mandalorian." They're small and capable craft, originally used for freight hauling (explains why an IR officer would carry weapons and supplies aboard), lightly-armed, and fast. Clearly not designed or intended for surgical strikes by Mandalorian warriors

    Makes you think if Imperial doctrine put more emphasis on speed, precision, maneuverability as thrawn suggested, the Gozanti Cruises would have been a very effective counter-insurgency asset. Its capabilities allow to perform a wide variety of roles, but of course that did not happen, that require palpatine to trust his commanders way more then he was willing to do. It's basically the Imperial counterpart of the CR90 corvette.

    The Gozanti is one of my favorite ships of that size. It has a lot of great qualities that would make it ideal for mid-range and long-range patrol for military use as well as a great hero ship/home for a Star Wars adventure (whether it be a cast of a movie or show, or in an RPG).

    the reason its still around would probably be that its too useful and cheap to replace. all the money to fund the navy has to come from some where and the shear cost of a sd or ssd means they have to cut corners else where and this ship looks not only efficient but cheap, light armor not very big but big enough to do the job its probably a cost and utility issue as it can do so many different things and the time and money just can't be spared to make something else when their using it all to build sds that are waiting to be blown up by a squad of bombers jumping in and dropping a full volley of missle right up its back side

    These ships ensured that the Empire had access to some rather durable and reliable logistics ships and could keep operations going. Figures that this would be the one smart part of the Imperial Navy, man, Tarkin is such an idiot. He may be intimidating and be able to order Vader around, but I seriously think his reputation as a genius tactician is grossly blown out of proportion.

  • @canisarcani
    @canisarcani Рік тому

    honestly im surprised the rebels never really used these things against the empire. they fit the rebellions M.O. way more than the empires, can you imagine these things modified to be hit and run strike craft with four a-wings slung underneath? sacrifice some of the armor and shields to strap some bigger engines on her and a turbo laser or two, pair two of them and their A-Wings with a hammerhead corvette and you got yourself a nice (and cost effecient) lil hit and run team to smash heavier enemy space installations than your starfighters alone can normally handle and run before the big boys come in.
    yes yes, im well aware that they did this already with their starfighters, and im aware that a-wings already have their own hyper drives, but you could maximize the starfighters uptimes by giving them the gozanti as a dock for fuel and a place for the pilots to relax and unwind without having to travel for hours (or even days) in a tiny lil cockpit to a rebel base. more uptime means more targets, and less of a chance for imperials to discover your actual base.

    I honestly think that Imperial Gozanti's are way too lightly armed for a ship of that size. If it were up to me I'd move the laser cannons to the wings while adding two more turrets (one dorsal and one ventral turret per wing) and add a pair of either proton torpedo or concussion missile launchers close to the wing roots, that way the Gozanti becomes a hell of a lot more versatile.
