I live in Waterloo and I hate it. I have been here for many years. I stay because of my family. I love hot weather all year round and don’t like the winter.
Iowa winters, I come to find out, is the number one reason why people doesn’t want to live in Iowa. As it is harsh, boring, long and depressing. This much I know I won’t be retiring in Iowa. Waterloo is not too bad you have the water museum, a few water park and decent eat. We go to Waterloo quiet often for that very reason. Lol
Me and my boyfriend are planning to move to Iowa after living in Brooklyn/NYC for nearly a decade. NYC has become such an exhausting and expensive place for us. We truly appreciate our hometowns a lot more now.

I found your vid interesting, we live in Iowa and really like it here, can't imagine living anywhere else ever, after living in a big city for twenty years in another state, am living in a small town of 200 and it's so peaceful and safe and affordable, something you can't find just anywhere
Thank you Fe, I am African and live in a very populated state and city (Oakland, Ca) I cannot afford any housing here even with 2 jobs. I'm planning to move to Iowa by next spring. I've lived in Germany, Virginia, Minnesota, Montana, California, Las Vegas, Nevada (most of my life), New York, and now Wisconsin. I love the changing of the seasons as well. In Vegas we had two season, super hot and cold. Here in Northeast Wisconsin, the winters can be so brutal. I've been here for 10-years, so it's time for a change! I'm looking at historic homes in either the southwest or northeast counties of Iowa. Still on the fence! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about Iowa! Everything you mentioned is why I've chosen Iowa to be my next adventure!

@@Fe-Bean From my perspective its Absolutely a negative impact. It's crowded from so many people moving here because it's legal. Traffic has increased, even with the light rail user's etc. Definitely not like Cali or ATL traffic but it can be a headache for sure. The cost of living is too high. There isn't really a cap on rent prices so for 2-3bd apartments that were $800-1000 before it's $1600-$2000/month, housed for rent are even higher. Average is $1800-2k for a decent location with good school. House prices have double so it's definitely a seller's market. And lastly people are having to move around. It's becoming cool to live off of Colfax on the farther west side which used to be a no go ever in life LOLOL and some areas are becoming more rundown since they could not afford to stay. Regentrification at it's finest.

I would suggest that you look into West Des Moines, N Cedar Rapids or perhaps E Marion. Avoid at all cost south Cedar Rapids and E Des moine, they are community in decline. Chicago thugs are invading these communities... If you are looking to live in a bigger city, choose Des Moines. It has a lot more to offer in terms of food and entertainments. Cedar Rapids is okay too, but it might drive you crazy if you’re moving from a big city. $600 will get you a large 3 bedroom apartment here in Cedar Rapids or a house if you don’t mind doing yard works. Everything Is within 15 to 20 minute drive. Iowa is a decent place to live if you don’t mind the harsh winter or the sweltering summer.
Both my wife and live in the suburbs of Lorain county Ohio and we have to do yard work in our current 🏠, so we definitely don't mind, I'll just have to make sure that we'll be able to find healthcare jobs with decent pay scale.
Sazon Man If you work in the health care industry, work will not be lacking. The minimum pay for a RN nurse I Is believe is $ 27 fresh out of school. Public transportation is not the best but it exist... in the metro area. The bus runs from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. There is a bus every half hour.... The buses tend to be late during the winter, It would be wise the dresse warmly if you plan on taking the bus during such time.
I live on Long Island and they have a lot of parts that are the country , just with a ton of people. We still have nothing to do. Really want to find out how the rest of the country lives . Thanks for the info. Do they have any places to swim?
What about the weather? I live in Utah so I don't mind the snow, but I hear is windy and humid, is it really that bad? Also does the wind makes the winters worst? Thank you!
I have been to Utah, you guys have the best snow for skying ( I then lived in Colorado). Iowa snow is completely different, it is wet and heavy. The snow becomes ice minutes after it hits the grown. I don’t know why but its takes forever to melt. So one is constantly looking at melting piles of dirt over a period of 4 to 5 months... it is depressing. The weather is bad during the winter because it is alway cold and grey. The cold is bone piercing and relentless. During the summer it hot and humid. Really humid, you feel as if there is a thin film of dirt on your skin. You bathe and shower constant to get rid of it. It’s nice hang out in a Weather controle space and dread getting out... Spring is perfect though. I love the changing colors and the lovely 72 degrees. Hope this help.
Thanks for this video have been wanting to move to Iowa for almost 3yrs now but haven’t been able to make up my mind cos all I read about Iowa is how there is no jobs n high cost of living but have read the schools are very good . So that has made me to be sluggish in deciding weda to move there or not
G G I am glad this video was of use to you. I know moving to a new state could be daunting and tiny bit scary. I was where you are 7 years ago. In any case I wish you luck. 🍀
My fiance and I are thinking about moving there, i saw both of your videos what you don't like and what do you like about Iowa and they're be really helpful, I think that we are going to do it, maybe to stay for good or maybe just for a couple of years or something like that because in Florida we cannot save any money for our plans. I'm just a little scared about tornadoes, can you tell me something about it, or maybe you have a video about that ? Thanks 😊
Came across your video. Well put together. I live in colorado myself and looking to buy in des moines. I appreciate any recommendations. Merci beaucoup!
Des Moines is a good place to buy right cause of low interest rate . It has become a little expensive and crimes are growing in certain neighborhoods ( because of spill over from chicago). Overall pretty good place to live and have lots to offer.
Davenport is okay. Pretty good “closish “ to Chicago. Dubuque by proxy is having a bad influence on the Davenport. There is a huge influx of Chicago population the moved to Dubuque. They have brought with them their bad habits... nough said
Wauke is a developing town. A lot of thing are missing, thing like Gym.... there is a lot of small mom and pop chops though. The people there are nicer than the ones in Cedar Rapids. A friend of mine just bough a house there , she like it a lot. A neighbor brought her cookies when she moved in. However, the food culture is extremely limiting. There are a tone of fast food restaurants, not a lot of sit down one, which is not a big problem for Des Moins is just a hop and a drive away. Please do take what I say with a grain of salt for I do not actually live there I visit sometime.
@@Fe-Bean I'm in real estate myself, and recently relocated for a project working in Waukee, IA myself and came to the same conclusion here. Thanks for your feedback!! I would love to get in touch in a more private basis and get some more feedback from you as I think you as a renter could give me some really good insight for my purposes. Are you available for something like this? Purely for research purposes! :) -Best Johnny Xayamath
Waukee and Ankeny are two of the fastest growing places in the whole country! Real estate is getting a bit expensive, but it is the idyllic suburban lifestyle, if that is what you like...
Hi, I'm Jesse and I'm also Haitian. I currently live in California and looking to move elsewhere. What are the best cities to live in Iowa that are diverse, safe with great school district? I'm also a registered nurse what's the best hospital? Is there any Haitian restaurant, church, supermarket?
Je rest souvent à la maison quant il neige. La neige ça change rien pour ceux qui travaillent au dehors de leur domicile. On est habituée avec . La vie ça roule comme d’habitude...☺️
Behind Target on Blairs Ferry, you ll find apartments and studio apt that brand new clean and really really safe. These apts are close to target of course. There are a lots of mom and pops restaurants near by ( lucky Penny is my fave) it is closed to a movie theaters, park and and bike trails.
If you’re looking for houses in a good neighborhood, look in Marion, j street, C street, Lenden, Robin or Nw Hiawatha are good. SW is a bit sketchy at time.
split rock critters I love Wisconsin! I have been to many barn parties, frisbee tournaments and college parties. I love going to the Dells. I love the food diversity too ( Ethiopian, Korean, Greek, Mexican, Cuban etc) I hate the blatant racial tension that has emerged in the last five years. That puts a damper on thing 😕. Other than that I love it all. Plus I have a lot of friends from my iINROADs ( college freind) still living up there. If I may ask why would you be forced to move to IA?
@@Fe-Bean My parents got a job opportunity and I don't really have much say in if we move or not my mom and dad are pharmacists and apparently this woudl be good for us. And yes I love the food here too!
Ha makes sense. You’ll be just fine. The culture here is not too different from this of WI. I am sorry you’ll might have to leave you friends behinds. The unknown is at time scary. I assure you, you’ll be okay. If things are a bit hard at first, You can always leave a comment here. Talking about thing with others always make me feel better. Good luck with everything.
Sis I was wondering how are the colleges in Cedar Rapids because I am moving this year and I don't know which college should I apply for. Last question, what are the criteria to work as an interpreter? Do you just have to speak another language outside of English or do you gotta have a degree in interpretation? Thank you for the video
Whatever college/ university you apply to, you’ll have a good education. The schools available are: Kirkwood Community college, Mount Mercy, Coe college, Iowa university, UNI. Kirkwood is the most affordable one. Mount mercy come second. Coe is the most expensive one. It will all depends on your wallet. To work as an interpreter here first requirement is to speak another language. Best company in town are ‘Humble languages’ and ‘Hands Up’. Hope this help. Have a sunny day.
Iowa has one of the best education systems elementary to college in the nation. YT Mac Jai Iowa is known for its large scale production of soy, corn , pork beef and ethanol. It produces about 1/10 of the nation food supplies. Iowa state fair is one of the biggest and famous in the nation. There are plenty of information in the internet in regard to Iowa. Good luck with your paper 📝 🌼
The Iowa flag has 2 colors plus an eagle 🦅 displayed in the center. White was chosen to symbolize the unwritten page of history at the state's beginning, when the first Native Americans lived on Iowa's prairies and represents purity. Blue represents loyalty, justice, and truth and red stands for courage. An eagle is displayed on the white center stripe of the flag.
Ines Cervantes Wow awesome. Which mean you are a hard worker. Whirlpool hired a bunch of chiropractors a few years ago to help relieve some of their employees physical stress. One of these chiropractors is my cousin. Whirlpool used to be a good place to work. I don’t know if that change.
Clinton Iowa is a really quaint little town. If you’re into water sports, lumbering, craft beer, and cross country skating, Clinton Iowa is for you. Plus it is stunning during fall. Owning a car in Clinton is relatively inexpensive as you can get pretty much everywhere on a bike. I would advise for you to visit Clinton at least once before moving there to make sure it fits your life style.
Since you live in Clinton, please help OP out. Let him know what you love about Clinton. Tell him about what you love to do during the summer/winter. Tell him what to expect and how to get acclimated. Be helpful! Don’t leave generic answers that are of no help to no one.
Owning a car in Iowa is fairly affordable. Iowa doesn't have personal property tax & licensing fees are not terrible. Insurance rates are better, too...
It depends on where one’s live in Iowa. If one live in Cedar Rapids Iowa the average salary for a pest control tech with two years experience is about 45,000 a year. People with five or more years experience often make 60,000 to 75,000 a year. Those who doesn’t have any experience usually works on commissions an make 25.00 & per hours. Hope this helps.
Moving to ottumwa, but concerned about less than 4% African American 😬 fear for my 5 children growing up not loving their skin vs living here in Washington state
Peachy♡ Ottumwa is pretty small and pretty white. I understand where you’re coming from and I sympathize. When I moved to Cedar Rapids 8 years ago I was pretty naive about race and race relation. You see I grew up in Haiti things are really different. Anyway, I have grown a lot since and I have taught my kiddos how to love themselves and how to maintain a true sense of self. Our experiences, have been positive so far. Thus, it would be great if you could teach your kiddos about race, and race relations, and how to maintaining a true sense of self too. It is vital to also allow them that time to find where they fit. Good luck mama. You got this ! Much love 💞
Thank you so much for your encouragement and advice 💖 Washington is a melting pot, but I really want our family to slow down and enjoy life, NOT things. We've visited Centerville before and fell in love. Only thing is I've never experienced real winters, and am terrified of Tornadoes, Thunder and lightning, and floods 😅 oh well. I'm sure we'll be fine

I was shocked (or should I say shooketh ) about everything the small town living mentality. Now I am used to thing... I trust, you’ll do the same. When are you moving. How do the the kids feel about moving. Did you have a family discussion about this life change move ? Let me know.

Both my wife and live in the suburbs of Lorain county Ohio and we have to do yard work in our current 🏠, so we definitely don't mind, I'll just have to make sure that we'll be able to find healthcare jobs with decent pay scale.
Sazon Man
If you work in the health care industry, work will not be lacking.
Is a car a must have in Iowa or is Uber and Lyft available?
Having a car is nice but it not a must. There is a bus system ( not great). Uber and Lyft are better way to get around.
I live on Long Island and they have a lot of parts that are the country , just with a ton of people. We still have nothing to do. Really want to find out how the rest of the country lives . Thanks for the info. Do they have any places to swim?
Can you do a current cost of living in Iowa? What is the most affordable cost for a 1bedroom?
Sure.
I, just so like you're video can help me to come in Iowa.
Fé thanks.
It depends on where you live. Iowa City has high cost of living, Cedar Rapids not so much.
Most of the state has very affordable housing. Jobs are plentiful
Thanks 😊
Okay I’ll make a video about your questions
@@Fe-Bean thank you so much, that will be great and I'm sure that a lot of people will appreciate that information 😊
I’m from Iowa I live in Des Moines 💓
Iowan are friendly and accepting. No racism from my one year living there. Friendliest state in the union.
Wow lovely video. What about Davenport in Iowa how is the place. Can anyone tell me about the place
Davenport is okay. Pretty good “closish “ to Chicago. Dubuque by proxy is having a bad influence on the Davenport. There is a huge influx of Chicago population the moved to Dubuque. They have brought with them their bad habits... nough said
Hi There Fe' Any thoughts on Waukee, IA?

Waukee and Ankeny are two of the fastest growing places in the whole country! Real estate is getting a bit expensive, but it is the idyllic suburban lifestyle, if that is what you like...
I habe thought about moving to Iowa from maryland.. I am glad i found your video
I hope they helped....
Here in Georgia finding a job here is a nightmare!

Wht place are good for apartment or house?
Behind Target on Blairs Ferry, you ll find apartments and studio apt that brand new clean and really really safe. These apts are close to target of course. There are a lots of mom and pops restaurants near by ( lucky Penny is my fave) it is closed to a movie theaters, park and and bike trails.
@@Fe-Bean also Wht about house or townhomes?
If you’re looking for houses in a good neighborhood, look in Marion, j street, C street, Lenden, Robin or Nw Hiawatha are good. SW is a bit sketchy at time.
I live in wisconsin and I might be forced to move to Iowa Im super scared
split rock critters
I love Wisconsin!

Fé Bean thank you very much. It definitely help. Have a good day too
Iowa has one of the best education systems elementary to college in the nation. You have lots of NAIA schools like Grand View, William Penn, Northwestern, Morningside, Iowa Wesleyan (the most historically important college in Ameircan history), Graceland, Briar Cliff, Dordt, St. Ambrose. Lots of D3 Coe, Luther, Cornell, Wartburg, Central, Simpson, Loras, Dubuque to name a few, lots of community colleges Kirkwood, Iowa Western, Marshalltown, Ellsworth, Southeastern, Iowa Central, DMACC, Indian Hills, NIACC, Southwestern Commumity College, Black Hawk Community College and these are just the top of my head. Then the big 4 D1 schools Iowa, Iowa State, UNI, Drake
How is coast of living in little towns?

Iowa is known for its large scale production of soy, corn , pork beef and ethanol. It produces about 1/10 of the nation food supplies. Iowa state fair is one of the biggest and famous in the nation.
There are plenty of information in the internet in regard to Iowa.
Good luck with your paper 📝 🌼
@@Fe-Bean Thanks!
@@Fe-Bean Oh yeah can you tell me what is the meaning of the flag?
The Iowa flag has 2 colors plus an eagle 🦅 displayed in the center.
White was chosen to symbolize the unwritten page of history at the state's beginning, when the first Native Americans lived on Iowa's prairies and represents purity. Blue represents loyalty, justice, and truth and red stands for courage. An eagle is displayed on the white center stripe of the flag.
I work at Whirlpool myself 😂😂😂
Ines Cervantes Wow awesome. Which mean you are a hard worker. Whirlpool hired a bunch of chiropractors a few years ago to help relieve some of their employees physical stress. One of these chiropractors is my cousin.
Whirlpool used to be a good place to work. I don’t know if that change.
What about osage iowa
Can you please tell me some about clinton Iowa and is it expensive to own a car there?
Clinton Iowa is a really quaint little town. If you’re into water sports, lumbering, craft beer, and cross country skating, Clinton Iowa is for you. Plus it is stunning during fall.
Owning a car in Clinton is relatively inexpensive as you can get pretty much everywhere on a bike. I would advise for you to visit Clinton at least once before moving there to make sure it fits your life style.
obviously know nothing about clinton. i live there. i know. and you people ramble and knock iowa down. educate yourself. awful just aweful
Are you perhaps drunk 🥴! You made no sense. Read your reply before posting. You came across as uneducated, young and sloppy.
Why did you choose Des Moines?
Because it has a better food diversity
@@Fe-Bean Zombie Burger is probably a good reason to live in Des Moines. Fongs is also pretty good. :)
Love Fongs pizza. I have yet to go to zombie 🧟♀️ 🍔. Will have to check out when the dust settles.

Thanks for video. Have you or your family experienced racism in Iowa ? Well does it happen often is the better question?
Yes Cedar Rapids!

Is it flat there or hilly?
It’s mostly flat with few hills on the outskirts of town.
Im moving there in August
Where are you living in Iowa?
Do Pest Control Technicians make good money in Iowa?
It depends on where one’s live in Iowa. If one live in Cedar Rapids Iowa the average salary for a pest control tech with two years experience is about 45,000 a year. People with five or more years experience often make 60,000 to 75,000 a year. Those who doesn’t have any experience usually works on commissions an make 25.00 & per hours.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
Peachy♡ You will be okay. A bit of planing and learning about small town culture will take you a long way. My husband and I traveled the world before settling in Iowa. I was shocked (or should I say shooketh ) about everything the small town living mentality. Now I am used to thing...
I trust, you’ll do the same. When are you moving. How do the the kids feel about moving. Did you have a family discussion about this life change move ? Let me know.
