"A surprisingly enjoyable luxury sport-ute that takes all that's right about the Navigator and applies it to a smaller, more manageable package."

Well it's 2022.. I just bought a 2004 lincoln aviator in very good condition.. it sat in a garage for 5 years! The couple that sold it to me sed it was too big for them and they decided to park it and left it. Their son sold it to me so I brought a tow truck and took it to a mechanic that I trust, he did what he did and was impressed by how well taken care of the lincoln is. No engine issues, smells new, no corrosion at all, open the hood and the everything looks and compares when you buy a new vehicle.. everything looks and smell new.. it has 46,895 miles... for a 2004 and being 2022 now... I got a very good SUV 👍

Thanks for the video 2theRedline. Very good review. I just bought a 2004 Aviator and am very impressed. It seems Lincoln put more effort into the design of this car than they did any other Lincoln. It's a shame so few were made. People didn't know what they were missing. I'm glad I got one. And it's actually a Mustang Mach 1 engine.

The Aviator's did NOT have the V8 from the Mustang Bullitt. It is a 4.6L DOHC and is from the 03-04 Mustang Mach 1's. The Bullitt's had a 4.6L SOHC engines.

The Aviator had the engine from the Mach 1 and Mercury Marauder. The Lincoln Aviator had a 5 speed automatic transmission. The Mercury Marauder had the 4R70W or 4R75W depending on the model year.

I just purchased a 2005 aviator. It has 144k miles. Runs fine. But finding parts can be a nightmare. After 19years thefront lower control arm bushings need replacing but the bushing and control arm are no longer manufactured.

Navigator is built on Expedition chassis/based on F-150 p/u, Aviator is built on Explorer/Mountaineer chassis/ based on Ford Ranger p/u. Navigator has unique 5.4L DOHC specific only to it rated at 305 hp and 365 ft/lbs, Aviator has DOHC 4.6L from Mustang Mach 1/Marauder rated at 302hp and 300 ft/lbs. Navigator has full air ride suspension standard, not available on Aviator. Navigator has optional power retracting running boards when doors are opened. I THINK Navigator has power opening/closing rear door. Navigator has Ford 5 speed automatic in '03 and '04, then Jaguar borrowed ZF 6 speed in '05 and '06. Aviator has 5 speed Ford auto only. I THINK again that the Navigator has full time 4wd selectable and AWD default whereas the Aviator is AWD (open front diff) only. Surprisingly, both vehicles can tow in the mid 7,000lb range at max, 7400 Aviator and 7700 Navigator (both come with class III hitch) as the Aviator has a higher power to weight ratio than the Navigator, and most importantly, the Aviator is faster!!! Both exteriors and interiors are almost identical with slightly unique re-positioning of interior equipment.

Typiclelooroll Not exactly.. I wouldn’t compare the older Lincolns to any Japanese brand (with exception of the LS 3.9). The older Lincolns were usually on the softer side, they are historically known for their soft smooth ride, extremely comfortable seats and quiet smooth V8 engines. In fact they were so quiet when you came to a complete stop you’d find yourself glancing down at the gauges (assuming you had a tachometer) or listening for the sound of the engine idle. Newer Lincolns are the same way though they’ve phased out the V8s in favor of smaller displacement high output twin turbo V6s. Now back to the LS with the 3.9 liter V8, it was a slightly sportier Lincoln that shared it’s platform with the Jaguar S-Type and Ford Thunderbird. It was discontinued in 2006 I think and replaced with the Lincoln MKS which was based on a Volvo platform.

I have a mint condition silver 2005 premium edition. I like the truck so much I just dropped in a new engine. I plan on modernizing the wheels, grill, headlights, and side vents and see if I can fool a few people. I chipped the engine and it makes a big difference, considering adding the Eaton 112 with only 8 psi of supercharged boost just for fun. M. 😊

The modular 4.6 in the aviator shared similar design with the 03-04 Mach 1, Cobra, and Mercury Marauder having a double overhead cam valve train, giving the vehicles 4 overhead valves. Closest to the Marauder due to the aluminum block shared between those two vehicles. The Mach 1 and Cobra both had cast iron blocks. The Bullitt only came with 2 overhead valves per cylinder and single overhead casms until the '05-'09 generation of Mustang and Bullitt which came with 3 overhead valves per cylinder. Other than that, fantastic video. These beasts really are unknown outside of the small group of owners out there

I have 20 inch chrome rims, and high performance summer low profile tires on mine, and it still handles remarkably well in the winter. I'd say if one had an Aviator that had the factory tires on there it would be even better! If I'm not mistaken, AWD was standard on all of them from 2003 - 2005, with the only difference being the addition of the Stability Control being standard on the 2005 models.

When you get to where the engine came from you start to go downhill. The 4-Valve DOHC InTech 4.6L V8 engine was put into many cars.... Lincoln Mark VIII, Continental, Mark VII LSC, Aviator. Ford Mustang SVT Cobra, Mustang Mach 1. Mercury Marauder. And multiple cars without FoMoCo's names... Panoz AIV, Marcos Mantis GT, Qvale Mangusta, MG X-Power SV, and the Panoz Esperante. None of which being the Mustang Bullit...

Theres a simple answer to this, if you have to question if it's affordable you can't afford. If the avg person followed this advice alot of people wouldn't been in debt.

Buy a (Mercury Mariner), 4cyl fwd crossover that LOOKS like an SUV. You'll get close to decent gas mileage. Keep the a/c off and you'll do okay in the city.

Its still an Explorer wth a Lincoln badge.
Its an American car and will be found at a PicAPart very soon after it hits 150 k miles.
Beleive me guys. In these days you dont impress anybody any more by driving a Lincoln. No matter what year it is.

    • @armymatt83
      @armymatt83 8 років тому

Fred Medina 0609370 because it has common parts with the explorer and marauder you can keep costs down buy getting get those parts for it but yeah if you take it to Lincoln for work you will spend a bit more.

Fred Medina 0609370 one of these no. but I have a lincoln LS and I've been looking into getting one of these so I have some idea of what they cost to maintain but I have talked to owners and they say these suv's and pretty reliable.
